You may remember back on March 29th I posted this photo, explaining how DH asked me a few times why I was keeping this pot of dirt on the screen porch since last summer. It just had this dead brown plant sitting in it and really did look like it should be thrown out. I couldn't bring myself to do it though because in the back of my head I sort of remember something about how bulb plants were fed by the dying plant so the could come back the following year. Last summer this had three plants, each produced one flower.
So here is the photo again along with a few others I took on that day. March 29th.

Someone suggested I keep a journal of how the plant progressed. So I took pictures every so often. The next one is from April 3rd.

April 8th

There's a lot more than three plants this year.
April 27th

It doubled the size in height also.
May 17th.

Here is my lovely Day Lily today, June 3rd. It took about two months and one week to go from peeping through the dirt to blooms.

There are still eight buds to open. I'll have to take a couple more photos as they bloom;)
I'm sure glad I didn't throw that "pot of dirt" away.
Side note. I also had a Calla lily which the thought that cats killed off. I did throw that "pot of dirt" right outside to the left of the door. Wouldn't you know it, the plant started growing in April. I dug it up and put it in the pot, but it didn't last. I am not going to throw it away, I'll see what happens next year.
