These popular perennials are not very long-lived, but often seed themselves. They make a bright display in May and June with their graceful, branching stems and spurred flowers.
They have a wide variation of colours.

Oh! There are a lot more pictures of these varieties, but I got to take a break. Hope you all have enjoyed visiting the little piece of my Paradise . Thank you!!!

Thanks Nana!
Well, b`coz of the form of its bloom and its blue-green leaves Aquilegias are special and graceful garden flowers. They are wonderful in the vase as well.
Seeds can be sowed in spring under glass to produce large-flowering plants a year later, or sown outdoors in May, in a sunny position and in moist soil. The Good thing is it needs less careing.
I hope this information helps your request, Nana to Seven D. Have a good evening!
Now, this reminds me of something more about the name "Columbines".
Well, I would like to add a brief explaination on the word "Columbines".
Columbines means: The main role of the Italian comedy, played by a female comedian, without a fixed text in the 16th until the 18th century for the ordinary people.
It seems, the first explorer, who had named the flower with it´s first name "Aquilegia", had also thought of these actresses with their beautiful, graceful and colourful costumes. Hence, this flower carries the name Aquilegia - Columbine, for a better distinction.
Thanks Jennae!
Thanks Waiting on the Lord D!
