Wow a Nobel Peace Prize, I don’t think anyone was expecting that! While I tip my glass back in celebration I have to admit that my mind wonders back to the previous president and I ask myself what he is up to today.
Is he at his ranch clearing brush? He really did enjoy clearing brush.
Is he watching ‘Jeopardy?’ I can see him being a fan of the show although I don’t imagine he knows many of the answers.
Is he ordering bar-be-que? He looks like the type of guy who would eat bar-be-que as a comfort food although I wouldn’t imagine that he would banter the term ‘comfort food’ around.
Is he playing TV video tennis? Do you remember the TV table tennis game from the late 70’s? George W. strikes me as
the kind of person who keeps vintage video games.
Is he bull sh*tting with her secret service entail? Aren’t you even a bit curious as to the nicknames he has for them?
Is he receiving a shoulder rub from Laura? I bet he asked for one
when he heard the Nobel Peace Prize news. I imagine she gives decent shoulder rubs.
Is he pretending that he isn’t home when his father calls him to chat about today’s announcement? I think he has Daddy issues.
Did he buy a gas guzzling Hummer just out of spite? He will be the
baddest a$$ in his Dallas suburb subdivision.
Did he phone Cheney acting like he was just calling to say hi when in fact he just wanted to know how it had all gone so wrong for him?
Did he write a congratulatory note to Barrack Obama telling him he is doing “One heck of a job, Brownie”? I betcha he didn’t.

Applying Preparation H to his tush and trying to keep it out of his eyes?
Rereading Mein Kampf?
Josette and Mugg, I just read the Wikipedia entry about him...yikes!
The right wing knows most of the conjecture about the Nazi ties is just stretched-truth fabrication.
But, you want to really piss the right wing-nuts off, then remind them of the legacy the Senator's kid and grandkid abandoned!
Prescott Bush was an early supporter of the American Birth Control League, and treasurer of the first nationwide campaign of Planned Parenthood.
He was among the 67 senators that tossed politics aside and voted censure against the demigog Senator Joe McCarthy.
Prescott was one of the earliest supporters of the United Negro College Fund, and as a senator was a key supporter of civil rights legislation and the establishment of the Peace Corps.
Yes, you want to bash the Bush family?
Ask them what the hell happened when they got to the fork in the road.
Today's Illusion, good point.
Re - Iraq. I often wonder whether a large majority of what's left of the Iraqi people - in and out of Iraq do not regret the good old days of Sadam Hussein by now!
Lisa - when I first heard about it yesterday morning I feft this Nobel Peace Prize was awarded not only to our President but to all of us who voted him into office.
If they have not done so, they wil probably cite the address to the Moslem world (in Cairo) specifically.
The Nobel committee wanted to bribe Obama to continue to weaken America, period.
Josette,
You're kidding right about wanting Saddam back? The Iraqi's will embrace freedom. Liberty is like an oak tree that takes time to grow. I only regret that we apparently have North Korean "Dear Leader" worshipers who because of poor education, or poor logic have forgotten how our country and government works and are here dangerously posing as Americans . Scary.
I was sorta kidding - gallows humor... But an oak tree is NOT what Dabbleya planted in Iraq (feels more like poison oak to me!) Further more, he and his cohorts were too busy cutting down entire forests of oak in our country to have any moral standing to give anybody else lessons in freedom and democracy.
Weaken America?? Any American who travels beyond our borders (and doesn't have an ax to grind) will tell you that America's prestige, and by extention strength) has increased exponentially since November of last year. We are once again respected and recognized as a member in good standing of the family of nations.
La Lady Lisa, I loved this! It's the most fun I've had with ole Shrub since ever.
We have not 'focused' on success there as we should. It's not obvious or likely that our foreign policy neophyte President will so focus (as there so many things that he wants so much more than a stable Afghanistan). Why (using his view) would he remove a perfectly good source of crisis that can be used for nefarious purposes by him and the Statists in Congress?
Josette,
I know this is a news flash but President Obama is the President of the United States , not President of the UN or of the EU or of the world. It is his job to represent our interests to other nations , not the other way around (he seems a tad confused on that tricky point).
Our strength has increased? How so and what evidence do you have? What foreign policy concessions has this administration gained from others? I see little.
That may be the case, but who was the commander in chief during almost all the time we've been there? As for the Statist congress, who decided, using our collective right to vote, to put them there? The majority, who saw that the other guys and gals, were screwing the pooch!
You're welcome!!!
Peter, I agree.
Ken, I was trying to be polite before, but bribery…really? Be sure not to mumble that too loudly or the orderlies won’t let you have weekend passes anymore.
Josette, in all fairness to Ken, I’m sure that there are some Iraqis out there who are happy the U.S. invaded, the real issue, and what I don’t think Ken is grasping too well, is that the country has been hosting a war for several years, one that helped sink the American economy. Ken, in all fairness to Josette, I’m sure that there are Iraqis who wish Saddam back simply because despite his massive asshole tendencies, he seemed to be able to keep the infrastructure going in a way that we conquering heroes seem not. When you talk about freedom I have to admit that I cringe because it is such an esoteric term. What does freedom mean? Are you talking about freedom of the press? Freedom to worship in any form you choose? Freedom to walk around nude to the market? Freedom to take the drugs of your choice all day?
Eric, I may sound like a naïve American, but wasn’t that the good war? Wasn’t that the one that if we stayed true to the course we would have captured Bin Laden and probably been able to help establish a democratic state in the middle east? The Iraqi War, beyond all of the terrible human loss and pain, is like buying a home that looks great on paper and finding out that it is built over a sinkhole.
Shanghai Li, thank you. Sometime I feel that some of these folks are born with some sort of disorder that they perceive the world around them in an opposite manner than it really is.
Ken, kudos on the usage of the term “Statists in Congress.” I must ask though (BTW, I don’t agree with your term “statists” in reference to the present Congress) how is government ownership different than the ownership of massive amounts of property by an elite class – an oligarchy? I think that we can all agree that in most economic sectors of a culture that capitalism works, yet when you have, as America has had since the 1980’s, a system where very few control so much isn’t that the sort of economic conditions that kills capitalism? I’m not a huge fan of Ayn Rand (Good God, did they not have editors in the 1950’s? Her romance in the boardroom notions make me want to barf!) but I do think that she made some pertinent points in regards to the stabilization of the economy.
Eric 10 points
Ken Zero
My 401k tanked by about 40% and that has hurt me and my future damn hard.
To ignore the rich also lost the same 40% is to ignore reality.
However to ignore that (for example) losing 40% of 50 million would still leave
30 million is to ignore the "widow's mite" they flat ass won't miss it.
Well, back to my black bread and gruel.
I don't think Uncle Dick takes his calls anymore.
Today's Illusion, I have a feeling that George's head has already been stuffed and mounted to one of Cheney's out of the way hunting lodges.
This is the best !
Are you going to join the SNL team?
Nippy, your comment, dare I say it? Made me laugh verbally in the open air.
It's the "southern belle" crap that gets me -- well, that and claiming to have a Master's (in my field, no less). The south is going to be forever digging its way out from under a stereotype because of the continued existence of people like that. It's hard enough to live down here without a lying fool making it worse.
Argh! Look what you did, Lisa -- you gave me a soapbox!
Feel free to always get up on a soapbox!
Damn, listen to me be all sentimental.
Eric, she is the bee's knees.
Don, I bet you are a happy camper.
Let it be. Putting the boot into a past president is spiteful and cowardly. Bush may not be the best spoken President ever, but he has two degreees (Harvard and Stanford), and is a fully qualified F-18 Pilot. They don't put dummies in fighter planes, so shame on you!
I get that you don't agree with his policies, but why so small-mindedly partisan? Attack the party, not the man!
Obama has done nothing for World Peace yet, let's hope that he does something to one day deserve the Peace Prize, that has now been devalued for Nelson Mandela, Lech Walesa, Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan, José Ramos-Horta, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin,
Mikhail Gorbachev, The Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Anwar al-Sadat, Menachem Begin, Martin Luther King Jr, Dag Hammarskjöld, Albert Schweitzer and even Amnesty International. All did extraordinary things over many years, many suffered and risked death to make real changes in the World. I wish Obama well and I hope he lives up to his promises, but this is premature.
When did he attend Stanford? He was a cheerleader at Yale (the same university his father attended thus making him a legacy) and later received an MBA at Harvard (of which he has never been able to make a success out of any business venture). Like his father, he was a member of the Skull & Bones society. I dare say that if I was given a quarter of the opportunities he had I too would hold degrees from Yale, Harvard, and yes, Stanford.
Yes, he was a pilot and fought bravely in Vietnam…no scratch that, he didn’t fight in Vietnam in fact may have skipped out of his National Guard duty (records that could either clear him of wrong doing or prove wrong doing have been sealed). Rumors linger that his father’s input helped him to achieve a pilot’s license even though he had poor pilot aptitude scores. Actually, since I have fighter pilots in my family I have been told by reliable sources that some fighter pilots are idiots and that many good people try to ground these idiots before they do unnecessary damage.
Let me make it clear Allen, I reserve the right to attack both the party and the man. Nothing I have said above is out of bounds in regards to suggesting violations outside of social mores.
One can debate if Obama deserved the Peace Prize, but it doesn’t shame any of the people who have mentioned that he is amongst their number nor their efforts.
In addition, I'm always interested when someone tells me "attack the party, not the man," which I assume is the cracker version of "don't hate the playa, hate the game." Like Lisa, I reserve the right to comment freely upon a presidency -- and president -- that harmed my country financially, killed thousands of its citizens by inattention and a false rush to war, turned its back on the poor and hurting in a manner that I'm certain made Reagan smile from his grave, and humiliated an entire nation in the eyes of the world. When you people shut up for 24 hours about any Clinton, or about Obama, I'll consider taking you seriously, although I don't like your odds even then.
His "low pilot aptitude" scores are now in the public record.
The christo-fascists struggle to maintain the delusion that Bush was anything but a mediocre man.
His failed administration confirmed that he is the worst president of the last century.
See Peter, Lisa and Kris above for his military record and worth as a pilot.
And some insist his service record was adequate, but still have no trouble bringing up Obama's birth certificate, STILL? No wonder we're so screwed!
Peter, can you name a president in any other century that was worse than Bush?
Josette, I think it was Jon Stewart who said that it would be great if we could just have Bush as our mascot. He does have pretty good facial expressions.
Eric, we aren't screwed, once we start believing that than we truly are. I think one of the messages to read from the wisdom of the Nobel Peace Prize is that we can shake ourselves from our ennui - YES WE CAN!
Not trying to rain on the parade. The events about which this post is written are more encouraging than anything. Yes it's in the past, but given the horrendous circumstances of the preceding years, I still can't help but ask if it will take nothing short of a miracle to get us out. Of course, my opinion, and I can't expect anyone to agree with me on everything. :-)
I'm thrilled about this award!
In that vein, Gorbachev of the Soviet Union received the award for the openness and less bellicose manner toward which he had pushed the soviet union. The fact is that his decisions would help end the cold war and also topple the soviet union.
The Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
Even SNL knows pBO has done *nothing... As long as intelligent people from both sides are still stupid enough to keep rubber stamping these shills into office, we are getting what we deserve.
Don, I don't think Bernie is a moron, although I wish he had spelled out Republican and Democrat because I had to pause and think about what he was saying the pBO was also a bit slowing. I don't mind that Bernie having his own way of writing buy consistency is appreciated.
Nippy, good point.
Bernie, I'm too tired to go YouTubing tonight, maybe tomorrow.
Kris, see it just shows you that even the worst person in the world has some redeemable qualities.
:)
See fairy tale that to led to the invasion of Iraq.
and the many Trillion dollars and thousands of dead U. S. Soldiers and 10s of thousands of wounded U. S. Soldiers.
Republicans have the shortest memories on record. Is it the drink or the crack?
1) that quote about Obama was made by Bill Clinton
2) I think less of Bush than you do
?
How does that apply? Is it wrong to criticize a president?
Simple, I think the "reason" we invaded Iraq, is a much bigger "fairy tale" than the Award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama.
It is not my fault Geo. W and R. Cheney own that "fairy tale"
Another day already Lisa, I hope you sleep well.
Well-noted, Today's Illusion.
