Are you ever ready financially for a kid???

Husband although very willing helping me through this getting pregnant process,is concerned financially being ready and being able to provide for a child..My mother says your never financially ready for kids, that you make it work.... My friend has 2 and I saw her checking account with her showing me of course not snooping,she has $20 in it,,I have alot more in my account then that at all times just in case,so if she can do it,I know I sure can.I told him it will be ok, I could qualify for WIC program and yes diapers are expensive,but there are the cloth re-usable ones I plan to use as well.Just in that alone will save us money.besides its coming out of my pocket more or less then his,as I am the main supporter of us most times...

Im not rich in no means,and yes with the economy Im just getting by,but my bills are all paid,and I have some money always left over in my account just in case of emergencies,Im very frugal which leaves us room if something were to happen we wouldnt have to fret too much,,Im in no means even middle class,but I get by and I know I can financially take care of a child.They may not always have name brand clothes but they will have clothes on thier back,and food in thier mouth and a roof over thier head and a huge family who loves them....I think this is more then enough...I may not always have money to buy X-MAS gifts around this time,but when you have kids you make things like that happen!

But the question remains,how does the rest of you feel? can you ever really be financially ready for a kid...My husband has asked this very question and the same answer most people say is NO never are you ready,but you get by and it all works out.. because you make it work out.
