A few nights ago, I did part 1 of my experiment; to see how ratings and comments affect points; if at all. I have still found my points increasing, even though I closed that post to ratings and comments. I am now going to allow ratings and comments on this post, and see if I see a difference in how quickly my points increase. I am posting this right around the same time, as the first part of my experiment; and I will take note of my points when it has reached around the same number of views- my other post right now is at 40 views. This sounds fun, who wants to take a ride in the mystery machine with me? ( I love scooby) :-)

Like Vern said, sure you can close a post to comments and ratings but all your other active post will still be generating points for you, would they not?

Yea all my other stuff would still get points, if it's being viewed, but I don't think I'm getting too many views on my older stuff; since I'm not that popular.
Ellen, your too modest by far. You're pretty popular with me and since I'm new here, I'm often reading peoples "older" posts just to get a rounder picture of the folk I'm creating friendships with. Sorry if I messed-up your experiment. :o)

I don't like to "rain on anyone's parade", but an experiment of this type will not really accomplish the result you're looking for. First, page view counts are inaccurate. Therefore, one member can cause your page view count to increase more than once...sometimes a lot more. Each increase in this number does not also lead to an increase in earnings.
Second, all of your other content is earning points for you at the same time, as well as other things you (and others) do on the site. Therefore, this equates to floating on a raft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean recording the water temperature, and you really can't gain the information you're looking for going about it this way.

You didn't rain on my parade, I'm still having fun cruising around in the mystery machine :-) I just noticed that my post here said it had 18 comments, but only 14 views; so does seem like the page views are messed up!

Oh speaking of the mystery machine, just thought of something... I was inside a taco bell years ago, at a table right by the drive thru. this van went through, that looked exactly like the mystery machine. I wouldn't mind having a van like that someday, if I could get a smaller one; I'm kind of small to be driving a huge vehicle.
Is there something in the scooby snacks? I didn't put anything in them, maybe the guy who gave them to shaggy laced them :-)

I find my points grow without my help. They often sit at one number for days and then the next day are up by 500. Ah, I love a good mystery.

LOL, still plenty of party for anyone who wants to hang out; and I didn't lace the scooby snacks- I swear! LOL. Just occured to me though.. figures the gather gods conspired against me with my experiment.... it says 35 comments and 26 views... what the hell? LOL wouldn't someone have to view in order to comment?
aww... maybe views mean unique views then. my points have jumped tonight though, maybe the scooby snacks please the gather gods :-)
From what I hear, Tony is spot on. Only 'unique' views count.

I'm curious too... but I think you should also try 2 other parts: 1 in which you just allow ratings & another in which you just allow comments. How's it working out thus far? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't know if I can provide graphs and charts or not, but I have found out that you get points for UNIQUE page views! and that scooby snacks please the gather gods, my points are still jumping quite a bit :-)
Maybe they know that we're ALL paying attention so they want to baffle us with a little bull sh&t. lol

Bully for you, Ellen! I don't get very many points, myself, but I am unwilling to change my habits to change that. I always enjoy coming to your articles, so I hope you get tons of points for writing them!

Well, the only things I found out were: you get points for unique page views, and sometimes the page views are screwed up lol
