If I were to hold a contest - what would people like to win?

It is definitely the season of giving and I love seeing all these member sponsored contests on Gather. It's neat to see people giving to others and so much fun when people really get into the contests.

I am thinking about holding one myself, not sure yet, but if I did... what would you like to win? Within reason, of course -- it's not like I can offer a $100 prize or something.

Some potential prize ideas
plastic gift card (which store?)
virtual gift card (which store?)
books, magazine subscription
children's toys
Coke codes
electronic items
PayPal cash
cd or dvd

How would you like to enter the contest?
one entry only, random drawing
one entry per comment on one article
multiple entries allowed spanning over multiple articles
question & answers game where only correct answers are eligible

Any other suggestions? I see lots of different ways people run their contests and always wonder which ones people like the best. Feel free to send me any ideas and I'll try to come up with something soon, hopefully with delivery of prize before Christmas.

So a private photo shoot with the coolest photographer is out?

I guess any prize other than that would be good! I like the random drawing ones the best.

By the way......how are you feeling? There are so many people that have gotten really sick. I'm afraid to open my mail anymore because of germs!

Gift cards and coke codes but everyone doesn't do coke rewards so I would say something that everyone can use such as a gift card.

I like about any of teh prizes mentinoed. Most beneficial to me would be teh gift cards or coke codes. I agree with Chris with the questions and answers. Don't see too many of those! Oh, for me personally on a gift card I'd like restaraunts since we don't get to go out often or Wal Mart since I'm saving for a laptop. I think Target might be nice too since you could get that with gather points.

I think a single article with where the person is chosen at random and can enter more than once. Gift cards virtual or plastic are always nice :)

I would like gift cards. Walmart, Amazon, Target, Kohl's. Any of them would be good. I like the one entry, random person. Some people have all day on the computer to put in comments to win things and others are just too busy to do that.

Coke rewards are always awesome to win. Paypal cash would be amazing but I wouldnt expect someone to just give away money. A gift card to most any retail store or fast food restaurant would be awesome like wal-mart, target, subway, mcdonalds, kmart etc. I do love books but would much rather have a gift card so I could pick out what I wanted myself. Any contests are fun though. I try to enter most contests as long as the prize is something I would want to win. My favorite contests are the ones that dont take much time. So my choice would be one comment per article with more entries allowed by posting to all parts of the articles but only one comment per part. I hope that makes sense I'm kind of tired.

Any contest would be fun.
I prefer the random drawing ones to anything else- the other contests are nice, but boy do they spam people silly. ;)

I would like contests for movies, music, books, magazines, gift cards, etc. Just about anything, really. The 'gift' type ones are fun, because it can be a gift for people.

I like gift cards! I personally don't like contests where you get entries per comment, because people will post multiple comments and it just gets ridiculous sometimes. I like the random drawing, or like Beate B. did recently with the Starbucks card, a 2-week daily post where you have to comment each day to be in the final drawing.

LOL having a contest is always hard to decide what to offer for prizing and what the actual contest is going to be. I'm too tired so I don't have any ideas right now. Maybe I will be back with some tomorrow.

Gift cards are always good. The only contest I have entered here on Gather was the one for the Starbucks gift card. I thought it was fun and it probably gave the holder of the contest some good points!

I think that random contests are most fair, but then it would be up to you since you would be the one holding the contest. I am not sure about the prize on this one. for me gift cards would be neat.

I like the "one entry random drawing" idea. I honestly hate those "whoever posts the most" contests. I've tried them, but it seems like the cookie-cutter comments win hands down and since I work (and run a shelter), I don't stand much of a chance time-wise.

I like gift cards.

I prefer the one entry contest though because I think the ones that do the most comments are kind of retarded because not only do you get spammed with a bunch of non-sense comments but you're not getting points for them either. Just my opinion.

I'm laughing about you saying you're afraid to open mail because of all the germs because that's why I have held off on sending out Christmas cards or wishlist items to people until my antibiotics have run their course!

i like the idea of a random drawing as well. that's how i have done my contests. that way, everyone has an equal chance of winning. plastic gift cards are the best for me personally. i don't shop alot online, and i would have the option to give it as a gift to someone else if i wanted.

For me personally, I would think either plastic or electronic gift card to someplace like target or Walmsrt, because they have such good shipping deals so often. Usually when I shop target online, I get free shipping off of clothing, and most times can find a $5 off coupon code online, so my total is almost always $5 less then I purchased, and no shipping, which means I get to actually spend the ammount of whatever card or cash I am usuing.

As for entry rules, I would think one entry per person, either random or a Q&A with correct answers entered to be randomly drawn. Or just pick the best answer that brings a good smile to your face... :) whatever works.

Oh, forgot to say that Walmart online offers ship to store option on alot of things, and $.97 shipping on alot of toys at this time of year, so it makes it worth it.
