Hey! Group owners! How you all doing?
I was just wondering how many of you that moderate your groups are starting to get an over abundance of content that does not relate to your groups. Such as you have animal group and you start receiving content that has nothing to do with animals. If so, how are you dealing with this?
I moderate 5 of my groups. I have been on here for over an hour going through content. Half the content is not even relevant to the group. So, far I have been just deleting the content not relevant to the theme of my groups. But I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the members who post alot of irrelevant content. To me irrelevant content is the same as spam. I understand if someone does it by accident. But posting one thing by accident is alot different from 40. By time they post that many. I think they know what they are doing. Don't you agree?
I have one member alone that has posted over 40 pictures that are not relevant. How would you handle a member like that? I know we all want extra points during the promotion. But in my opinion posting that much irrelevant content takes away from the group owners from being able to do other stuff around Gather.
Opinions please?

Thanks for stopping by my article. Do you have any tips, hints, or suggestions to help me with the problem myself and other group owners are facing?
Did you even read all of my article? I am sorry but someone posting over 40 pictures of animals to an only people photo group is not a mistake. You can also tell by looking to see what other group the person has posted to and see if it was a mistake or not.
For me, I just keep booting the articles and images.
Thanks for posting to 3ForAllWhoEnter where I always give out tens!! Yeah Points!!
Thanks for being in my group:

Nice article! Gave you a 10!
Happy Triple Week!
ABC'S Lost. I run in a lot of people posting to ABC's Lost, I think some people think it is one of those self help places. I delete them. When it happens for the second time I send a kind email. I think also some people (myself included) get click happy when selecting groups to publish to.
thanks for posting to It's 3X the points, 3X the rewards!
I sometimes have trouble deciding whether a post is appropriate for a group or not... for example... I recently posted an article on the coming famine in North Korea and I debated whether to post it to some of the animal welfare groups to which I belong..... why??? because the animals are suffering worse than the people are suffering.... and I thought that people who were interested in animal welfare would be interested in the article... even though it did not directly address the welfare of the animals....
I have also accidentally posted something to the wrong group and gotten a variety of emails back from the group owners... ranging from nice to nasty..... I quit posting totally for a while after a nasty email from a group owner.... it just was not worth the aggravation.... and it is so hard to post selectively....
I own one group and I do get a certain amount posted to it that really does not belong.... I don't think anyone is deliberately trying to abuse the group.... I think they are careless or maybe just desperate to try to make some points.... I delete the posts... I have not emailed anyone.... I actually just don't worry too much about it.... it comes with the territory.... it is why forums need moderators.... and it is a lot of work....
You could try asking a member or two to help you moderate the group.... That could lighten your load....
And thanks for commenting in my Author's Cafe.... come back whenever you have a chance and sit a spell....
Have a wonderful magical day....

I have five Groups only two seem to have the problem with irrelevant posts. It is not that the members do not understand (the ones who post irrelevant content), it is that they either do not care, do not read, or are inconsiderate. I've sent out emails stating that ALL irrelevant material would be deleted, to the Group members, and to individual offenders. The same people continue to do the same thing.
It is annoying, and what's worse, is that you think that the people who do this have more sense, and are more mature. I'm baffled at what's wrong with them. I think I'll start Therapy for Group Owners who have to deal with this issue.
Any Group Owners who would like Group Therapy can come to Artistic Therapy ~ The Therapy will be very GOOD for me, I know that! Sandy, you are certainly welcome to JOIN US!
Thanks Sandy for bringing this issue up.

I used to post that it was declined and WHY but people got snippy about that, too. It seems unless you make a THEME group a post it all tempers will flair - on BOTH sides.
Great discussion!
Over 90% of all groups with a specific theme/topic FAIL within the first few weeks of creation because group owners can't keep up with the off-topic content being posted to their group.
Therefore, this represents a significant problem in the community. If a group owner has established a group title and description which clearly defines the focus of the group, then off-topic content is the responsibility of the member publishing.
I suggest writing a pleasant note to the person reminding them of the group's focus. After two of these notes, it is obvious that this person is not going to respect you and other members. Therefore, at that point I would remove them from the group without sending any notification. There is a high probability that the member will not even notice that they have been removed from the group.
I also recommend moderating your groups because it is MUCH easier to remove off-topic content from the moderation queue than it is to remove it once it appears in the group. You may notice a slight decline in content being published at first, but if you moderate regularly (releasing content quickly), you can actually increase your group's membership and content choices.
