Currently there's an interesting poll at Boomertowne.com that I thought I'd share with you.
Should we build a wall along the border with Mexico?
58% — A. Yes

42% — B. No

Total Participants: 2822
Although my family came here from Sicily generations ago, I was one of the 'Yes' votes. I guess at this point you call me a hypocrite and I'll agree with you. This is something I feel strongly about though...
How would you vote?

You would not be a hypocrite unless you are illegal and voted yes?
She tells me that immigrants climb OVER the wall, and that the higher it's built, the higher they climb, while the helicopters fly constantly overhead seeing ALL of this. . .
Didn't the Framers and early Colonists of this country prove that to the Brits?
At the same time, however, I think that there are significant problems with having completely open borders. There was a tight restriction on European immigration beginning around the late 19th and early 20th century (I'm a little fuzzy on exact dates), so there's certainly a good precedent for regulated immigration. I think that's the best policy to undertake.
I think you've started a REAL powerful dialogue here!
I feel this statement contains the real problem we are having with "ILLEGAL" immigration. Somehow people are missing the meaning of illegal. I am all for immigration but stand fast in knowing who and how many people are let in.....legally!
"immagration is what started this country to intirely stop immagration is a slap in the face to the people who started america"
I thought you were taking what people had said as to stop it all together.
Thank you for clarifing.
We are hypocrites to demand it for others, especially when they come here to be able to provide the minimum needs of their families.
Absolutely not. We are already killing too many desparate people.

My maternal great grandfather was Native American, so as their descendant, I'm saying:
All y'all GET OUT and go back to where you came from!
No, no -- of course I am just JOKING.
What to do with the children of undocumented workers who are born in this country?
Are they to be banished?
I'm telling you that the wall is NOT keeping people out. My girlfriend seeeees
people climbing it, and hopping over, into this country.
That is NOT working.
How much more tax $$$ would you like to spend on a "solution" that is not working?
IIRC, the US didn't control immigration till the mid 1870s. Before that it was a free for all. Since then we've had increasingly restrictive quotas. As others have pointed out, what we're doing now isn't working. One of those things is big fences and walls.
The first question to ask is "Why do people enter the US illegally?"
After we have a good answer for that one we can think about how to control illegal entry.
Right now there are a lot of people in this country who didn't enter legally. The "round 'em up and put 'em on a bus back to where they came from" solution is a little simplistic. We need to do something that is inexpensive, humane, and does the least harm to our economy. We've let the problem grow to the point that simple surgery isn't the answer.
We are all descendants of someone who came here but my ancestors and yours came here legally
I asked Russel Means for permission to stay here and he looked at me like I was nuts and then he laughed and thanked me because he had never heard of anyone doing that before.
The drug cartels are here, I guess some of you think that is a good thing.
The problem is that, for one, we have allowed it with a wink and a nod, and those who believe it is a problem to address become fodder for late night talk show hosts and liberal columnists. They are painted as ignorant racist hypocrites who have no compassion for the huddled masses.
This country allows people to immigrate EVERY year. Many of them have waited their turn, participated in lotteries, or sent one family member over to have them earn the right to bring others. They have done everything by the book, the same way as a lot of forefathers (such as mine) had to do. Is it fair to THOSE huddled masses that if you can just get into Mexico and run like crazy across a fence you can live here and not worry about all the inconvenience?
Something needs to be done. It might not be higher walls. It might be someone with a machine gun every ten feet given the orders to shoot on sight. Yes, I went there. No, I'm not taking it back. If the deterrent is scary enough, it might make people think twice before breaking that law.
I dont have a problem with them coming here, but they should do it the right way. I just had something like this posted about a week or two ago.
There are people who get here on ships from Asian (San Francisco I know), from Cuba, from Haiti and other isles. . .
How do you plan to deal with this?
'Now what is that law in Florida. If you make it to dry land, you are HERE!'
Only if you're Cuban...if you're Haitian...back you go.
I am one of the 58%. My feeling is stop the problem before it starts.
That is the point I was making in my post. How much we spend on them in a year. The bottom line number is sad and it shouldnt be even close to that.
by foreign countries currently ripping $45 Billion/year off of us in remittances, and another $62 Billion/yr, in human services payouts. This is one of the main reasons why are economy is sinking.
The border fence, nationally, is similar to the YOUR HOME'S FRONT DOOR (I hope you keep it locked), to keep burglars from removing your personal possessions.
Also, to prevent further overpopulation and its long list of harms (we became overpopulated about 85 years ago), the fences are essential. as is stronger border
control and immigration law enforcement (IRCA) at the workplaces. WE could sta that by California voters elimination illegal alien voting and impeaching Nancy Pelosi.
I am a Boomertowne resident and I voted on this survey. I voted for no wall.
I guess I just don't see the point in a wall. If there's a mountain someone will climb it, so if there's a wall someone will climb it.
I guess the real question is why are they trying to get here at all being as we are now such a 'depressed' country? It used to be they came for jobs. Now all our jobs are moving there! Why aren't we crossing their border to get our jobs back?
I don't know. It just seems that everything is so out of whack! Jobs, health care, social security, companies being allowed to go bankrupt to get out of pension obligations, taxes, and the list goes on.
Are there answers? Is it all going to be fixed tomorrow, next year, the year after? I don't think anyone has the answers to that.
Force companies to pay higher wages that meet the real cost of living so citizens can afford to take those jobs... Require proof of residency for anyone who wants a driver's license, Require companies to confirm citizenship before they hire anyone, become stricter about distributing social services... and maybe we won't need a wall.
Since some are comparing this to the pilgrims, lets not stop there. Once we just went into another's humble abode and pick up a rock and WACK, then took what we wanted. I won't insult your interpretation of illegal aliens as long as the comparisons are valid.
We are not as think as you dumb we are.
Did you here, the Feds and cops have decided not to arrest any more criminals ever, since we can't catch them all ... why put up the wall.
That's the excuse that's used for allowing Cubans in illegally, but, not Haitians and Mexicans.
Before building the wall, fence or barrier...I suggest you tear down the Statue of Liberty. The 'New Colossus' is no more...unless, if you're European, of course.
If it walks like duck and quacks like a duck...
century. This 19th century antique needed to go the way of the horse and buggy, long ago.
Correction to my previous post : Foreign countries are not ripping us off for only $45 Billion/year in remittances, that is merely the figure applied to ILLEGAL aliens here. The total remmittance loss we are suffering from Mexican citizens alone (legal & illegal), is over $100 Billion/year. If our economy's pocket continues to be picked by foreign countries, then "our" economy will, in all reality, be THEIR economy (partially, that already is the case).
if you let someone pick your pocket for $100/week every week, then $100 each week of "your" paycheck is actually theirs.
Any questions? Ignorant is when someone doesn't know the facts. A dumb ass is someone who ignores the facts.

magnificently for years. Same thing with the fences built in Israel.
My tax dollars could go to better the schools, roads, or our health care. And to build a wall would make for Americans to have a job.
And yes I know that all of us had family in our past how there not born in this country. They came to America to get a job to work and feed there kids to better themselfs. They learned to speak our words to read our words and to become apart of us. I say enuff is enuff we must put a stop to it build a wall let some in at a time and make sure we can care for those peole we all ready have..
Do you know that there are parts of the us that people do not have running water in there homes. That an out house is in use... that is where my tax doillars need to go..
