Question about points

Hi, Lisa - I haven't seen you for awhile here. There's actually no set thing written down to tell us how the points work and as fas as I know... they fluctuate sometimes?

Ha, I meant to say as *far* as I know... not "fas" - oh boy. Hahaha. Anyway... all I know is that if you make connections, join and create groups and post article and photos, then make sure you return comments when people send them to you, you'll do great!

Oh yeah, and... don't send anyone any drive by low ratings. I just stick to giving 10's. Make sure you're not posting off-topic material to groups. Have a nice night.

hon, there is an algorithm that gather uses but it is not made public. i do know that views are important as is the number of different people that comment on your article. keep your bets safe and do a variety of things, depending on your time. publish articles and images, comment as you have time for, connect to people, start a group and invite people to it. then just keep on doing all that without losing your sanity or your clean house.

It seems to me that leaving comments gets a little less than getting comments, based on my general observations

I actually had a nearly COMPLETE nametwin at a job I used to work. Only our middle names were different..

Just curious, are you in your mid to late 30s, early 40s? So many Lisa's I meet are...

Well, this article answers a question fermenting for some time, which no one seemed to be able to answer until I just now read it here, and it was your comment on my book jacket that resolved that. Of course, now I am even more confused by the points system at Gather, but in a way where all questions have been answered about "confusion." Does that even make sense? Oh well. I also learned that since I live outside the USA, I can't even use the points system for anything.

Lisa, thank for your comment on the book jacket image. The book's been out a couple of years, and I remember giving the publisher my approval of it. Then, a month ago while I was sitting with my girlfriend, working on that book's Danish translation, I explained to her the Chinese hierarchal system of the number of claws a dragon icon could have. Under punishment of death, no one except the emperor was allowed to present a symbol with five claws. The number of claws instantly transmits where one is in the social hierarchy. And then a few minutes later, I am explaining to her the basics of the evolutionary processes of dinosaurs going to birds. So she then asked, "But then how come your dragon on the cover here has four legs and two wings?"

Lisa, I'd never seen that before, otherwise I'd have told my publisher to get the artist to edit that. Luckily, when I mentioned this to my publisher a few weeks ago, we caught just in time a similar error on the new book, Krona. A tiny comment can have such a good effect, much like the butterfly effect in meteorological systems.
