Would You Donate To Me?

Would you donate to me? I don't mean for no particular reason, but if I found a genealogical record for you, and it saved you time, and probably *money, wouldn't it be worth it to pay for it? If I find a record or records for you, you could donate what you feel it is worth ($1, $5, $10 or more?). If I don't find anything, then obviously you pay nothing. I have included a PayPal link on the top of my main page that can be used to make a donation. (You will have to sign up for a PayPal account).

I have been thinking of how I can pay for my Ancestry subscription and do the things I really like to do, like genealogical research. I have a full subscription to Ancestry which includes the UK , Canada and some German records, and many, many more.

Who is in your family tree? Do you have names, dates and locations, but you don't know where to start? Let's give this idea a try and see if I can keep up with the requests!

One thing though. Please don't contact me and ask for all the Smiths in the United States or anything. If I am going to be able to find your ancestor, I need specific information to begin my search. And, it might take me a while to find records and email them to you. By records, I am referring to anything from actual census images to citation text in a database.

It's only logical if someone does such a "favor" for one, they be rewarded in some way for their efforts since there has been no pay requested.

Maybe. I've tried to track my Dad's side of the family and just gotten so far and run into dead ends. Reason being, I lose it all when we get to my great grandmother, who was full-blooded Pequot. Whoosh - no more records. Or maybe we just didn't look in the right place. I donate things to everyone, but I can understand wanting to be paid for your research.

I've always wanted my family traced back but I'm too lazy to do all the work. I'd definitely pay a reasonable amount to have someone else tackle the searching, etc.

Thanks everyone, for the positive feedback. There are so many variables that can make finding records easy or difficult. That is why I didn't state prices. In genealogy, you usually start with your self and work backwards through time. The 1930 census is now available, so if someone wants me to look in that year, or any back to 1790, I can do that. It is hard to be exact about the person before 1850 because that year is when they began listing the wife's and children's name with the men.

Does $1 per document/record sound reasonable? If it does, please email me and I will look for your ancestor.

I have been doing this for years in my state..want more traffic? Sign up to be a volunteer on Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. List you can search all census and records through you r ancestry.com account and if you are willing to search at the courthouse or cemeteries etc. and you can rightfully ask for postage, copy fees, and gas money. Not lucrative but if you like to help, its a great way. Its how I paid for my Godfrey account and my ancestry account
