Why Is It That Only Milk Works with Breakfast Cereal?

I don't know why I keep thinking about this today. Why is it that only milk works with cold breakfast cereal?  I have tried chocolate milk, which only works with certain chocolate based cereals or plain cereals. I have tried soy milk and it was yucky. I know someone who has tried water, and as you can imagine, that was a disaster.

I rather like soy milk on cold cereal, and in my coffee. Plain soy milk works best. Have you ever tried Kool-Aid on corn flakes? It's not half bad. :)

Suvi - Hun? That's interesting. I cannot imagine the taste of Kool-Aid on corn flakes! I can't promise I will give it a try... but thanks for the input!

Long ago, in another life, my neighbor had a daughter who was allergic to milk products. Now this was in the eighties, so I don't know if soy milk was on the market then or not. Well, her mom put apple juice on her cereal. She loved it and it tasted good to her. I have tried it when we are low on milk, and actually, it's not that bad. I've made smoothies using apple juice and yogurt, too with frozen fruit. Now, that's tasty!

I love using vanilla soy milk on my cold cereals. That little vanilla flavor gives it a little extra something.

I remember a guy in college who hated milk but loved rice crispies...he would eat them on a regular basis on Saturday morning with Beer! Imagine if you will, the snap, crackle pop and belch that accompaniedTHAT meal! LOL

Milk is not the only thing that works on breakfast cereals but it is the tastiest. The companies spend a lot of monet finding the rioght food-chemistry reac tions between inmgredienst so that they taste perfect with milk. I like some granolas with iced tea....my buddy likes Count Chocula with coffee...!

when I was about 6, I found no milk in the fridge but being the self sufficient child that I was, I grabbed the jug of orange juice for my Cocoa puffs...
Needless to say, self sufficent or not, I haven't made that mistake since!

I don't care for milk, but I absolutely love cold cereal. I eat many cereals plain like most people would chips or cookies. I eat most cereal with yogurt, but I eat raisin bran with orange juice. I'm thinking the beer/rice crispy combo sounds interesting, lol

During the month of June, the local "Senior Resources" group serves a breakfast sundae at Albert Lea's Saturday morning Farmers' Market. It consists of a bowl of corn flakes, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and topped generously with sugared strawberries.

OATMEAL,MALT-O-MEAL CEAREALS LIKE THAT i CAN EAT WITH OUT MILK, IF DON'T LET IT STAND FOR AWHILE. IF TI SETS FOR GET IT, MIGHT AS WELL TOSS IT.

Some things just seem to go together better. I buy an extra gallon of milk, pour it into 5 small bottles and freeze 4 of them. Each one is enough for biscuits or mashed potatos, pudding or an occasional bowl of oatmeal or cold cereal. Beats running to the store when I need some in a hurry.
