Starbucks 35th Anniversary Blend (A Silly Question)

Have you noticed the packaging for the Starbucks 35th Anniversary Blend coffee beans?  I am just curious, why does the mermaid have two tails?  Their website does not mention anything at all.  Do you have any fun theory to share?

It's actually a siren. The original version of the logo was pulled by the ad agancy from a clip art book. Later, this drove the SBUX legal department crazy, because it was in the public domain and therefore impossible to protect.

You can see some history and background on the siren here.

It may also interest you to know that there was at one time a different logo developed specifically for the Middle East market. Since religious prohibitions there forbid representations of humans, the special logo had a sort of stylized version of the siren's crown in the middle, but was the same otherwise.

Fun stuff, huh? There's also a version of the Pike Place Market blend coffee stamp (which shows the original logo) for the Middle East that has just her nipples re-touched out.

SS is right...it Is a siren and my guess would be that STARBUCKS uses it because they feel the allure of their coffee is like a "siren song" drawing in all within it's call to partake of its wonder! (silly I know, but I'm in that sort of mood today! LOL)
