If I told you there was a bear in the kitchen, would you look?
On September 19 the US Senate killed a measure that would have required rest time equal to combat time for our troops. The measure got 56 votes for and 44 against. Democrats needed four more Republican votes to move the measure forward. The got at least 7 non Democrats to vote for the measure.
Today, and probably tomorrow and until the population wakes up to the lie, we will be told that Democrats are not doing anything. The truth is Republicans are obstructing, with all their might and main, the efforts of Democrats to make progress.
So, it is not The Democrats are not doing anything, it is the Republicans are obstructing any changes. With a minority they are able to kill practically any progress, and then the media minions blame the Democrats.
What do Democrats have to do? The Republicans solved the problem by locking Democrats out of the process, Denying them access to information, and in a few cases denying them access to the actual bills being brought to the floor.
When we realize that the agenda of the media, the corporations, the wealthy, the Republicans, the Conservatives and the Neo Conservatives is to win at any cost, we might start taking a critical look at the framework of the language we are getting from the media.
We all know that Bush has veto power, and if the Democrats have done nothing else they have put the War in Iraq ENTIRELY on the Republican party. It was not just the troop rest legislation it has been the budget proposals, withdrawal deadlines, and virtually every other resolution Democrats have proposed to shorten the war. Republicans have obstructed change, From Bush to the most junior Republicans in Congress they have prevented movement toward ending the mass murder we call “Operation Enduring Freedom.” The Republican minority has also managed to prevent progress on SCHIP, Tax reform, Spending Reform and virtually every other proposal of the Democrats.
The media, even the New York Times and all the networks have helped this false picture by using phrases that are just plain falsehood.
We are being lied to, believing the lies, and acting, in general like unthinking automatons. As long as we, the people, continue to tolerate this it will not only continue to grow, but it will also continue to corrupt our government and rob us of our liberties.

One of the reasons it is working is that course that taught, those of us who are older, how our government works have been dropped from school curriculum along with the other courses that are deemed frivolous. In a democracy Civics and American Government are no more frivolous than science and math courses. An basic understanding of all areas of knowledge are necessary for us to govern ourselves and to allow our nation to advance technologically.
Donald H. All the legislation required was a period of readjustment equal to the period of combat service. I would be willing to argue that is too long. But the issue is not whether or not the specific legislation, The issue is the OBSTRUCTION by Republicans to EVERY major issue brought up by Democrats. The spokesmen and women who are telling us what is going on are LYING....they have lots of motivations, but they making a concerted effort to denigrate Democrats. Even the so called LIBERAL media. In fact even some of the Radically liberal speakers are using the same, "Democrats are doing nothing" lie.
Democrats are, to quote Donald Rumsfeld, "fighting with the army they have." They are not winning, they will not surrender, so we have stalemate. SAME AS IN IRAQ.
Teaching does not end with a diploma. And ALL of us are teachers.
Calling it the fault of the Democrats is LYING.
IT IS VERY SIMPLE SONNY, I DO NOT LIKE TO BE LIED TO. Stop it. You are LYING when you say the dems have no intention to stop the war. THAT IS A FALSHOOD. DON'T LIE TO OR ABOUT ME.
Its a real problem when you blame a political party for a war. The fact that the Democrats couldn't find the 4 votes needed is a political problem they should have solved. Its called politics. They couldn't do what they promised. Don't blame the Republicans.
Its not enough to have "intention". One must have decisive action. When they had a chance to vote no they voted yes. Its the Democrats.
Remember, "Mission Accomplished," or doesn't that apply because Bush decided to stay in Iraq. We brought home a single aircraft carrier group...and then, after the mission was accomplished sent three others to replace it.
and yes I have read it.
"Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all. Religion and morality enjoin this conduct. And can it be that good policy does not equally enjoin it? It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and at no distant period a great nation to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence. Who can doubt that in the course of time and things the fruits of such a plan would richly repay any temporary advantages which might be lost by a steady adherence to it? Can it be that Providence has not connected the permanent felicity of a nation with its virtue? The experiment, at least, is recommended by every sentiment which ennobles human nature. Alas! is it rendered impossible by its vices?"
I DO THINK THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD REPEAL THE AUTHORIZATION FOR WAR.
They might be able to get that through the House, and should bring public opinion to bear on the Senate to get it through there.
Karl-You blame Bush? Congress voted to send troops.
Problem with the bill was the US Military even admitted it did nothing but cause drastic logistical problems. It was a public SMOKE BOMB...
FLASH-BANG...and when smoke cleared it was clear it was only a political stunt.
Representive government, want a change make your voices heard. Suggest you contact the people who can make a difference, in either case, to keep the troops, set guidelines, withdraw the troops..whatever...
The more people play Republicans against Democrates the less that will be accomplished. One reason our troops are being targeted is other nations know that all they have to do is kill a few soldiers and Americans will leave eventualy because it has been the trend. I agree US needs to exit, but yanking US troops out now could cause later deployment in the same nation.
Public opinion...should we have mob rule? No thanks
Karl-Why would you want to cause more grief and problems for the US Military? Let me guess if you could you would give locations and troop movement information also right...Logistical problem... Place higher demmands on the troop movement and transports..yep GOOD PLAN
Karl-I rather bring the troops home alive, then create logistical problems that will cause more body bags.
"The truth is Republicans are obstructing"
And the Dems never obstructed anything???
"Republicans solved the problem by locking Democrats out of the process, Denying them access to information"
All members were briefed in classified meetings, If the did not get the info, it is because they didn't show up.
"...we might start taking a critical look at the framework of the language we are getting from the media."
I hope this includes the Clinton News Network (CNN) and the DailyKos as well.
"The Republican minority has also managed to prevent progress on SCHIP, Tax reform, Spending Reform and virtually every other proposal of the Democrats."
It seems like just 2 short years ago the Dems were doing the exact same thing to republicans.
"The media, even the New York Times and all the networks have helped this false picture by using phrases that are just plain falsehood."
So much for investigative reporting.
thumbs up.
Karl- There are ways to protest the war that does not endanger the troops. I am not pro war but I do support the troops. When people attempt to cause chaos by passing bills that gridlocks the military it DOES bring troops back quicker, however flag draped coffins isnt the fast way most want..unless your Karl Leuba...
Think about that the next time you decide to argue for Victory of the Doctrine of Domination.
There is no way to protest the war that does not lower the morale of the Military. In fact supporting the troops has a very limited meaning. You know it, and I KNOW IT.
