Over ten years ago, I thought I'd take a shot at joining a party, and helping move some issues forward. I succeeded in helping LEADERS move forward, yet the issues? They're no further along than we were in 1990.
I knew at the time joining a party wasn't my bailywick. Folks told me then, as some recommend today, that the only way to MAKE PROGRESS is to be PART of the system.
Well, I've got to tell you, to each his or her own. I make more progress on important issues OUTSIDE the party system than inside.
God it feels good to be FREE of that stinkin' Republican Party. It's gettin' filthier every day too.
FREE! FREE! FREE AT LAST!
Democrats don't look so damn smug when you see folks bolting from the party which SAYS it represents the conservative side. You're no better.
I'll keep supporting my conservative friends, whether they stick with the party or not, however, all things equal, I'd choose the INDEPENDENT any day over a partisan politician.
Kudos to the Unity08 effort for their approach toward politics - let's work to give power back to U.S. (United States) CITIZENS, not U.S. (Ungrateful, Self-serving) PARTIZENS.
Cheers,
John

The core issue? Energy. Everything else is tied to it. Regardless of who is elected in this next election, I hope they name Amory Lovins as energy secretary. The man has answers, technologically, politically, and commercially. His ideas are clearly written in "Winning the Oil Endgame."

This is not political. It is something we can all really unite around.
Never mind Ron Paul - against separation of church and state, antigay, some indications of a racist background, and anti-choice.
They are NOT the same. they are 180 degrees apart in their approach to government. Democrats see government as the instrument best suited to advance civilization and support the public good. Republicans see government as the instrument best suited to advance commerce and secure unfettered capitalism. Sure, you can always hold up individual examples of Democratic sell-outs like Bill Clinton, but the entire Republican Party sold out to big business over 100 years ago. Ever since Nixon, the working class have been getting screwed and strung out on credit to keep them quiet. Our government has favored business over workers for far too long and our best hope to change that is the Democrats.
