Hersh described video footage depicting U.S. atrocities in Iraq, which he had viewed, but not yet published a story about.
He described one video in which American soldiers massacre a group of people playing soccer.
"Three U.S. armed vehicles, eight soldiers in each, are driving through a village, passing candy out to kids," he began. "Suddenly the first vehicle explodes, and there are soldiers screaming. Sixteen soldiers come out of the other vehicles, and they do what they're told to do, which is look for running people.""Never mind that the bomb was detonated by remote control," Hersh continued. "[The soldiers] open up fire; [the] cameras show it was a soccer game."
"About ten minutes later, [the soldiers] begin dragging bodies together, and they drop weapons there. It was reported as 20 or 30 insurgents killed that day," he said.
If Americans knew the full extent of U.S. criminal conduct, they would receive returning Iraqi veterans as they did Vietnam veterans, Hersh said.
"In Vietnam, our soldiers came back and they were reviled as baby killers, in shame and humiliation," he said. "It isn't happening now, but I will tell you; there has never been an [American] army as violent and murderous as our army has been in Iraq." (underline and bold added)

My question is, where is the video that he is talking about? The blogger suggests that the video does not exist, and I am inclined to agree. Don't you think the left-wing media would have jumped on that, just like they did Foley? They would have put that video out there by now, just like they did with the Abu Ghraib photos. And if it were Pentagon video, they can hardly keep classified material secret, and i'm sure the NYTimes would have gotten their hands on it.
You can read the full article yourself and let me know what you think, but I think Hersh is either exagerrating what happened, or is just lying. Take a look at the blog too, cause he makes some interesting points.

i don't think hersh's opinion about specific things is well-reasoned. but we'd better figure out the costs of war.
i think we will have problems reintegrating many people back into our communities because of residual problems from the war. they estimate 1/3 of the military will have post-traumatic stress syndrome. that might be higher than the problems we experienced with the vietnam war.
i think wars where the enemy hides among the civilians are the worst.
Some "Hate the Military" whack job pushing an agenda all his/her own. This tries to create anymosity in our troops that just isn't there. Obviously the writer has no clue concerning battle tactics, command structure, field expediency or zone security.
Just the way the remarks are stated concerning "murderous US troops" is telling. There's a hearts-n-minds exercise underway, one of the three transport vehicles is fragged, requiring that the surviving soldiers repel boarders and try to rescue their wounded/dead. I guess the terrorist blowing up the transport is just not a part of teh equassion other than to nonchalantly mention that the IED "was remotely detonated".
This anti-American hack hates the military as a group and has dreadful penis envy for individuals far better than he/she. The final statement makes that abundantly clear ["In Vietnam, our soldiers came back and they were reviled as baby killers, in shame and humiliation," he said. "It isn't happening now..."]
Simply a filth covered throw-back to the hippy-dippy 60s.

The most telling snippet in Hersh's article almost flies under the radar: "If Americans knew the full extent of U.S. criminal conduct, they would receive returning Iraqi veterans as they did Vietnam veterans..." As memory serves, those who picketed the servicepersons upon their return from Vietnam were spoiled, narcissistic shitheads. The rest of us, even though we may not have agreed with the war, respected the sacrifice and discipline of our military. As a counterpoint to honor and selflessness, Hersh myopically refers generically to this irrelevant and disappointing faction of our society of which he is obviosly a card-carrying member.
Disproves the theory of evolution. There types should have been elimated long ago in the evolutionary scale.
See this crap by the esteemed Sy:

Secondly, I really do not believe this. There have been incidents over there though. This, most likely is an exageration.
What I liked most was:
Which sounds exactly like Rush Limbaugh, Bill OReilly and Sean Hannity. I do not approve of them either. I approve of no one intentionally spreading disinformation and/or propaganda. It is dangerous.
I just find it amazing how you can all point out how this guy is being untruthful and never question what any of the right wingers say. Especially Bush when it has been shown that he lies
On the podium, Sy is willing to tell a story that's not quite right, in order to convey a Larger Truth. "Sometimes I change events, dates, and places in a certain way to protect people," Hersh told me. "I can't fudge what I write. But I can certainly fudge what I say."
And by Grateful's comments I am going to assume he has no real idea who Chomsky is, has never read any of his books and just likes to keep using that phrase because of Hugo Chavez's comment.
Christine, I have an article about this piece of human debris. You tell me if I know him.
Did you read my links?
To bite, spit on and piss all over the hand that feeds you is vile. He is loved by assholes that need the intellectual boost of being cool and outside the mainstream.
Did I offend YOU or hit close to home?
The media is spoon-fed liberalism crap from the day they walk into most educational newrooms.
A retiree from the declining NYT just wrote about the mindset of the MSM he dealt with in his career and was part of it.
Owners do not censor the material. The SELL it. The editors and writers produce it.
MediaMatters tells us there is only Conservative media. Okay. I know when I've got mud in my mouth no matter how many times I'm told it's chocolate.
Remember assume and I like to know my enemies. I read a lot of Islamic and Soros-funded trash as well. I don't take it to heart.

Israel
The worst current example, he claims, is American support for Israel:
" virtually everything that Israel is doing, meaning the United States and Israel are doing, is illegal, in fact, a war crime. And many of them they defined as "grave breaches," that is, serious war crimes. This means that the United States and Israeli leadership should be brought to trial."
"no anti-Semitic implications in denial of the existence of gas chambers."
"Jews in the U.S. are the most privileged and influential part of the population," adding that "privileged people want to make sure they have total control, not just 98% control
No matter how great the crimes of the regimes he has favored, such as China, Vietnam, and Cambodia under the communists, Chomsky has never demanded their leaders be captured and tried for war crimes. Instead, he has defended these regimes for many years to the best of his ability through the use of evidence he must have realized was selective, deceptive, and in some cases invented.
