Amen! This is what I've been saying all along - these problems didn't appear quickly and took time to be real problems, it will not take a second to fix them. Everyone is so impatient for Obama to make good on his promises. It is going to take much longer than expected. Just the way it is. If it was up to him, he would snap his fingers and it would all be gone BUT he has to deal with all these people in the congress, senate and house of reps - he has to deal with the nay-sayers and the media - and there are a lot of people saying "No" to his views. Also a lot of people are taking his words out of context before he finishes his sentences. Just ridiculous.

I think he will do as he said BUT it will take many years to get it all done. Patience people!

Americans do not even consider compromise a virtue and it is something we all need to do. The Democrats, Republicans and Independents need to work together.

We all need to communicate with our Senators and members of Congress. Send them emails, faxes and phone calls. Tell them what you expect of them. IF they accomplish something good, let them know. They need to know when they are doing well as much as when they aren't doing their job.

Maybe we should make a monetary pledge to give a certain amount to our parties that we can spare each month - the same way many of us do for PBS. It will take a lot of faithful donors to compete with the kind of money corporate lobbies pay for the favors they expect in return. When all is said and done, we are not going to have clean and correct campaigns and the best possible candidates until we make drastic changes in how campaigns are to be financed.

You are so correct, Ruth. Without determining what corporations made donatons to the Obama campaign, the average donaton by citizens was something like $99 per person. Look at what we accomplished.

I normally make my donations to the candidate rather than the party. I may have to rethink that personal policy. Thank you for the fresh perspective.

Personally if I had 99 dollars free right now it would go to my local food bank or Toys for Tots! As long as politicians are valueing their Corporate donations MORE than what we sacrifice to donate.................they don't deserve our support. Dragging their well paid feet and playing to the cameras for months on end while nothing is getting done to move this country along tells us just what takes priority with them. Holding up the much needed unemployment extension for WEEKS only to pass it with 100 percent support the day after elections for cheap brownie points was the last straw for me. Families are hurting and they are playing games!

I understand, Ape. I agree that jobs are needed and it does not appear to be a priority with our leaders.

I am fortunate to live in an area where stability is never in question, sometime that can be annoying, Cambridge is so low key and the State of Massachusetts is having its issues yet, Cambridge is rarely affected by economic and political brouhahas. We are 6 square miles of academia and quite liberal, we have a mix of 1st generation immigrants and nearly everyone is in or graduated from college, most are Masters and above, 25% work from home and life here is rather quiet.

We do become quite involved in State elections and nearly 97% are Democrats and volunteering is high in civil, political and social issues. It is not heaven yet, we have so much diversity here and a strong impetus on academics that it suites me well. I have empathy for areas where things are not so stable and people are out of work--I am earnest in that statement.

You are definitely fortunate, Johnice. It ma not be Eutopia but it sounds close. I know that you are earnest in what you say.

This is a military town and we our local leaders aren't doing anything for the small businesses. Guess I will just have to do what I keep harping on and is to communicate with them. Attend meetings. Never become discouraged. Never give up.

That is all you can do--unless you run for local office???? :)

Remember what POTUS 44 said frequently, "One voice can change a room." he goes on to add a "City, a Nation", so do not stop, when things look grim feel good for what you have accomplished then scale back for a while to regroup, then charge forward. That is my advice! :)

As a person who was so involved in the Obama campaign I should have known this. I have stepped back while regrouping. I will be so much stronger for this rethinking my methods of activity. Then . . . Watch out! LOL!

We are working on it, Renita. It just doesn't feel as if we are doing enough.

You are so right, my astute friend! Each of us must do all we can, and let what others do take care of itself. Mr. Obama and his wife do a lot, but for many nothing could ever be enough! I do absolutely all I can, and I don't care if anyone else thinks it's a good or bad thing. It's doing what's right, to me!
I was thrilled to discover, quite recently, that Publix, where I shop most often, is making sure everyone knows which produce is locally grown, and offering more healthy and gree alternatives all the time. That's why I'm quite loyal to them!

Thank you so much, Joanne. I agree with you about the Obamas. Some people will never be happy with what they do. I admire them. There is just so much that needs to be done. President Barack Obama has already improved our image abroad and he is highly respected. I am thankful for him every day.

The place I shop has an organic food secetion but I don't know where it's grown. Will have to notice next time. Thank you for that thought.
