I love the Constitution! I love the fact that if spells out our rights pure and simple. The amendments were added to clarify certain points or to protect rights not mentioned in the Constitution.
For example:
The First Amendment reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” The prohibition against “an establishment of religion” was intended to separate churches and government, to prevent a national church of the kind still found in Europe. In the interest of time I will say no more about the establishment of religion, but only concentrate on the direction that the United States shall have no law “prohibiting the free exercise” of religion.
I firmly believe that we as Americans are very fortunate to have this promise of freedom to worship when, where and how we wish. I love that fact. I think that each of us should keep that sacred promise and do what worship as we like. Nobody has the right to tell us when,l where how or who we should worship. I would never force anyone to believe the way I do. My beliefs are sacred to me and they are mine. I do not wish anyone to take them away from me as I would never take anyone else's believes away from them as long as they do not harm anyone else.
However it is getting to the point where if we verbalize what we believe we are criticized and threatened for that belief. For example:
I believe that abortion is murder. Before you start criticizing me hear me out. I believe that abortion unless under certain circumstances such as rape, incest or the life of the mother is in danger is morally wrong. That is my belief, I do not judge others for doing it but for me to vote for abortion to become legal would go against my beliefs. I would never burn down an abortion clinic or kill a Doctor who performs abortions because I think both of those acts are also morally wrong.
I believe that my beliefs are what I will be judged on when I die. You will not be judged on what I believe per say. I must stand up for what I believe in but only in a civilized manner. I work really hard to not judge others by the standards that I set forth for myself.
Now this post is not about abortion.
I feel that my rights are being threatened on many levels. The government is trying to tell me what I can heat my home with (we use coal). That is our choice. For us it is cheaper than electric or gas.
They are saying it is contributing to global warming. Personally I feel that we had the coolest summer we have ever had and it was one of the shortest. last winter was very cold as well.
There seems to be getting less water in the rivers and streams every year. Are they going to tell us to quit drinking water? Yes, I know that was a silly question but that is what I think of a lot of the laws that are being made are. . . "silly".
If we would just follow the laws we have now instead of keep adding more we would be a much better off country. The laws we have in place are not being followed and someone did a post the other day on just the point I am trying to make.
I am pro-gun and do carry a concealed weapon. I have a permit to do so and I feel safer with it in my purse or pocket. Now there are many laws in congress and legislature concerning firearms. I just wish they would enforce the laws that are already laws before they go messing with new ones.
I think we need more law enforcement personnel instead of more money for our voted officials.
This post is just my opinion and I respect everyone's opinion even if you do not agree with me. Please respect everyone else's opinion. Now for the debate. BE NICE!

I just think the Constitution gives us certain rights and I can see them taken away each day Thanks for your comment
That is my point. We can all live our lives and do so in a civil manner without all the silly laws.
These days I think it's ok if everyone has an opinion as long as everyone thinks alike...
I know many people who hate guns for various reasons. My best girlfriend has never had a gun in her home even as a child but we are still best friends and we agree to disagree. I have not always been like this, I used to be bad about judging people for their opinions. I had to work hard to keep from judging people.
For the record, I value your opinion as much as I do mine and it is your right to believe anyway you want. I do not think you should be criticized for your believes. I did not intend this post to be critical of anyone. :)
Though I think many would be surprised about how many rights this country started out not having... when it was first formed. I think we are fairly fortunate in the rights that do have.
do I think we are losing them... sometimes yes.. other times no.
Every state has a law against driving while you are distracted. Our lawmakers thought that wasn't enough so now we have a laws in some many states that you can't use a cell phone unless you use a hand free device. Apparently that too wasn't enough so some states now have a separate law against driving while texting.
Don't get me wrong, I am not in favor of driving while trying to read and send text messages. I just think that if the laws against doing something in your car that distracts you is enforced, you don't need the other laws. Do we need a law that prohibits putting on makeup or eating a doughnut? If we did I will be in trouble and not for the makeup.
Thanks for your opinion. That is exactly my point. The law was already in effect and they were and are spending time and money on making new ones that say basicly the same thing.
What rights have you and I lost? I may have overlooked something important. I do believe that we are losing rights of privacy as the nation grows and becomes more complicated. What else?
Thanks for your opinion.
Going on to say that this reporting threatens our very right to freedom of speech by propogating "politically correct" slants that obscure VERY relevent facts that may or may not convey information, so an informed electorate can exercise their freedom of religion as it relates to casting their vote. Would you not want to know all the facts that relate to all sides before you make your choices on election day? This is, I fear, being obstructed BY OMISSION. This is only one of the freedoms I see us losing, but goes to your point.
I do not have a carry permit, but STRONGLY support your right to do so! The American public must NEVER give up that right, nor let the courts erode it. Listening to both sides of the arguement, I do believe that carrying is a personal choice, for the reasons mentioned above regarding being injured yourself, by your own weapon. I also feel that armed americans are the final militia that will keep invaders from landing on our shores.
Now, if we can be informed, vote, and control our own government, we should be able to extend this republic a little while longer. Slanted press, and the enemy within I fear far more. We are selling our country to foreign buyers with the huge deficit! They do not need to take by force, what we allow them to purchase with our own dollars legally. We deficit spend, they buy more stock, real estate, companies, businesses, etc. and all with the INTEREST on the debt we have to them, while they ship our industry to their countries. THIS is the freedom we are risking losing.
We can all wake up, and be workers, and consumers, and owners and producers for others only. No advancement for our children or ongoing generations as they struggle in a country they no longer own a stake in. OR the dollar is worthless, as more and more are printed, as my grandfather saw happen in his native Austria. A suitcase full of money would not buy one loaf of bread, because it was just stuffing for bedding, and bread was edible. Lucky for us that the Fed can create money in cyberspace, because of the legistical impossibility of printing it at the rate it is being spent today. That these actions will inevitably have a consequence is not debatable. The apparent results are already visible, with foreign companies holding major control in entertainment, auto, and other large industries. When does it stop? When policy changes! Nothing is ever stagnant! We are spending more, or less. We are investing more, or less. We are borrowing more, or less. As a nation, we must control ourselves and our government better than we have in the past.
Sorry to go on so, but am on a rant. Enough!
I agree that we all need to be INFORMED. Discussion of opinions is a great way to be informed in my opinion.
Thanks for your comment.
I have noticed that the media is reporting more and more in with the attitude that there is a right and wrong even when it comes to politics. Their views definitely come through loud and clear.
I still remember the days when reporters reported and you had no idea what their opinion was on the subject.
Thanks for your comment.
Ron Paul introduced a bill to remove special exclusions from audit from the Federal Reserve. It demanded a complete accounting by the end of 2009. No co-sponsors. referred to committee and died, which is no surprise to anyone, probably not even Mr. Paul.
There was a bill introduced to establish a US Sales tax, and abolish the IRS and it had 38 co-sponsors. (was intro-d by a Dem, don't remember who). Those who hate the IRS with passion might take heart in the appearance of growing support of their position.
The gun owners probably already know a reciprocal carry bill was intro and immediately died in committee.
An extention of our Cobra rights for long term unemployed, along with a limited extention of subsidy of same is languishing in the house.
no rant just snippets of info re: rights
BTW new health care law abolishes our rights under Cobra. :(
And again, thanks for listening patiently.
Thanks for your comment Jane
I don't know if you have been listening to the energy hearings, and am not an expert, but if that is important to you, find an input (congressman or senator to write), because it looks to me as if the plan is to spend huge amounts of money on 100 new nuclear plants, and a few offshore windfarms. That's all I could find of substance. I'm with you about coal and gas. They are our 2 largest resources. While they ARE carbon fuels, shouldn't we invest the money into using them cleanly? The congress seems to be ignoring, I don't understand. BTW the water is definately an issue, quickly becoming a very big issue...anyway GL w that worthy cause!
About your coal fire. Does that fire affect others? Do you keep all the products of combustion on your property or do you release them into the air? Since what you do with your coal affects others, perhaps your right to burn that coal is in conflict with their right not to be harmed by your burning that coal.
I guess my coal heat could affect others.
Thanks for your comment.
You are so right, I believe in the mini ice age, due to fresh water melt causing collapse of the Gulf. Did u see the record on baby penguins not returning? Usually 60% survive to return to breed, this yr only 20%. Probably a break down in food chain. The documentary I saw blamed totally on warming, but over fishing probably contributed. It's horrible how the ice habitat is changing. Some rotation is documented for eons, but not at this speed. Anyway, I share your concerns.
I truly love a simple sentence: The Ninth Amendment in our Bill of Rights. It read something like this; The numbering of certain Rights in the constitution SHALL NOT be construed to deny OR disparage other Rights retained by the people.
I preached this for over 25 yrs. Shared it with people who looked at me like 'so what'.
I even wondered why, myself, until this last sumer. Now I believe the Ninth was put here to help US protect the first eight amendments.
When 'government' calls us names, or attempts to belittle our concearns, They Violate Our Constitution! We need call them to account for Their disregard of Our Constitution.
