I had to look it up. I remember as a child a long time ago. but not the exact phraseology. But my Sunday school teacher told the class that we can introduce people to Jesus and his message, but if they choose not to listen, we should go our own way. He didn't say harrangue or kill or any of that.

My brother is Islamic, and we don't worship the same God. It's night and day, literally. I had to study Islam even to speak to my brother, who pounded his table and told this woman to sit and be quiet. So I tried to flush his head down the toilet. He is a fast runner. Carol. I dated a couple of Muslims when I was younger. And YES they do worship the same god as Christians. They worship Him via the Quaran. Different doctrine, but the same god. That said, there are different types of Muslims. Extremists who make their women to submit and others who allow their women to be productive and interactive human beings like themselves. Sounds if your brother decided to follow the extremist side. Islam is a beautiful religion. Even in the non-extreme practice it is very different from ours, but you also have to take into account the cultural differences as well.

And I think you're full of shit, too, by saying you had to study Islam to speak to your brother. I spoke to my boyfriend, his brothers, male friends without any problems at all. Sat down to dinner with their families and had rather nice conversations, too. They were immigrant Arabic Muslims, too. From the old country.

I applaud President Obama for being tolerant of many points of view and for looking for the common ground. Religious and political zealotry can only lead to a bad end. Think of all the wars in recent memory and those that continue today -- they have all been fought over religious, ethnic, and racial intolerance. I am a Catholic and I deeply regret the persecution of the Kosovo Albanians, who are Muslim, by the Serbian Catholics. When are we ever going to learn from history?

Carol, you make some valid points but let me ask you something. For how long have Christians been torturing people that believed anything other than the Christian faith? How many Christians were screaming for war against the Islamic religion? As a Christian, I do wish everyone believed in God but its not going to happen. Christians will however continue to force feed their beliefs down the throats or our own people, other countries, and other cultures that have no interest in hearing it. When we do that we are going to have enemies.

There are alot of things said from both sides of the fence. Some are true but much are lies or misinformation. Obama is doing the right thing by trying to patch up differences with other nations and their belief systems. I know its hard to turn the other cheek when things happen to the people in our country. Im human and being human I want revenge too but not against the religion of the enemy. Against the actual enemy which are the extremist that want nothing more than death. We need to be at war with terrorists instead of religion, but all to often people ant to think if you believe differently than they do then they must be bad people as a whole and that just isnt true. I know good atheists and bad people that call themselves Christians which goes to show that you cant judge a book by its cover. Religion is what we make of it It can be good or it can be bad but what a person does is of their own accord and not the fault of a particular religion or belief.
