WorldNetDaily has reviewed a new book by Dr. Lyle Rossiter titled, "The Liberal Mind", which is an extensive study on 'Psychological Causes of Political Madness'. The review begins, "Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder."
Dr. Rossiter is a board-certified in general and forensic psychiatry with over 35 years of experience in consultation, evaluation, reports, and testimony on civil and criminal matters. He says, "Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded. Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."
"Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
- creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government."
The review concludes, "The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."
How does Dr. Rossiter's view match your view of liberal behavior?

I mean, that sounds like "name calling" to me...
plus that idea seems like the image of "whining about imaginary victims", "raging against imaginary villans"...
could one not write a similar diatribe calling the OTHER side(only the extreme, of course, as both sides who would write such a thing, are incapable of appreciating "grays" and everything is in black and white) narcissistic?
Dr. Lyle Rossiter titled, "The Liberal Mind" The problem with this book is that it is and was written for the money not professional recognition. At least once per year or, once every 4-5 years PhD’s must write and publish material for peer review and this is no such book. This book has been penned for income at a time when Liberals are in the majority they again make an easy target for conservatives who are in every profession. Mental health will suffer from this publication in the same manor as the witch hunts of Salem MA and the hunt for communists in the days of Black listing Hollywood artists and movie makers. Sad, Nihilistic, Narcissistic, Pertinacious, Gasconade pages of self bluster
I think that Dr. Rossiter protests too much. The fact is that liberals have a rich history of activism that created and encouraged the middle class in America. The benefits of the middle class are seen throughout every aspect of the lifestyle that we have come to enjoy. Without liberals there would never have been the concept of the weekend that we take for granted today. Without liberals, we would still be coping with impoverished children on the streets. Liberals have the distinguished credit of the realization of the American lifestyle that we enjoy. If that's a mental illness, it is a nice one to have.
Conservatives and Republican ideologues will love this book. I predict that Dr. Rossiter will do well with this commercial venture. There are many people who make it their life's mission to discredit and belittle liberals. It is not a professional submission and cannot withstand scientific scrutiny - that is clear. But, it will please the new type of conservative who is convinced that his/her stingy ideals actually benefit the country. Barry Goldwater must be turning over in his grave. I do not agree with conservatives and have never agreed with conservatives even though I was raised in a conservative household. I continue to be a proud liberal. Liberal values have served this country well. I don't always agree with everything that comes out of the liberal camp. But, I could never support anyone who bases their political views on the idea that America is anything less than a country of people who enjoy the right to live their lives according to the way they see fit. That is what the US Constitution stands for and liberals have been at the forefront of defending that right. Again, if that's a mental illness, I'm happy to associate myself with it hands down.
This is more attention than he deserves.
"whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives"
You are describing right conservatives there. If you want to see a persecution complex, look at right wing Christians and their anti christ and devils and liberals and superstitious Obama terrors. If you aren't doing things their narrow moral way, it's the highway (to Hell) for you.
I'm sure the author is a psychiatrist although it would be fun to find out that his degree comes from a diploma mill.

"Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
JFK's famous quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" reflects a responsible, serious, mature attitude. Ironically, liberals are now usually Democrats, as was he.
I wonder how he would feel about all the whiners in our country, waiting for handouts and blindly following parental leaders who tell independent Americans what is best for us rather than serving as our representatives.
Although each and every American is entitled to the right to hold and express an opinion, the current economy and world situation has no room for whiners. We need serious, responsible leaders and we need to behave responsibly. Those are the things that made the USA a great nation.
Some people's Conservative and Liberal views and judgments are clouded in a veil of mediocrity, where self-interests take center stage instead of being able to see the bigger picture.
Years ago, among other things, Liberal meant far and innovative thinking for a better and more equitable life experience. However their impulsive and impetuousness mindset has sometimes caused more problems than they solved. And the Liberal values of yesterday are certainly not the same today. Although wise, sometimes Conservatives become too cautious and nothing gets done. And sometimes they too speak with forked tongue. It’s character and wisdom that’s lacking in their thinking and not whether one is Conservative of Liberal. Both are necessary, both should serve the best interests of our country, and both need to be spanked.
A good solution would be for Conservative and Liberals alike to put the people ahead of their own self-serving goals, and our country’s future under God. Only then will we NOT be so full of ourselves.
Additionally, perhaps the ideology motivating BOTH is of sorts a mental disorder of hubris proportion consisting of overbearing pride and presumption.
