Someone needs to explain this one to me: Why was it all right for a man to carry an assault rifle to see the president?

I hadn't heard about this one, NOBODY, really wants ANY president murdered.

Really, REALLY, REALLY good question. I don't want anyone with a gun within a MILE (the acknowledged non-sniper accuracy for a long-barreled rifle) of my President. No... not even Bush when he had the job (are you NUTZ? then we might've had President Cheney!!)!

I am puzzled by this too. I am not an obama fan and I do support the NRA, but letting someone with a weapon close to the president does not make any sense. Obama should probably stay out of Kentucky. Lots and lots of guns here and lots of people with IQs that are lower than their shoe size (assuming they wear shoes). Good article! ;.)

The law in Arizona, where this happened, allows for "open carry" of firearms. Since no law was broken and the guy didn't act in a threatening fashion (it was supposedly a statement about his right to bear arms), there was no arrest made.

AC good point. The man did not break a law he did show extremely poor judgement.

If he was trying to further the "right to bear arms" cause my guess is he did more harm than good.

Yes. Those doing this are doing more harm than good, to the cause they say they are upholding, which it is becoming more and more obvious, this is merely their excuse.

Actually, where a president appears to speak publicly, the land in the area temporarily becomes federal ground, and state laws do not apply.

As AC said he broke no laws in Arizona and although close he was not actually in the presence of the President. If he had been, the Secret Service would have been all over him like stink on sh*t.

Carrying the gun in a highly charged political situation showed poor judgement on his part in a number of different ways and had the potential to be dangerous not only for himself, but for innocent by standers as well.

No law was broken...and nothing happened. I find it a little sad that this is getting so much press.

I think Lori is right that the idiot did it for the publicity but I think owning and carrying a gun is a constitutional right and the second amendment IS my permit to carry a concealed weapon. Obviously there are venues where guns should be prohibited.

I think the reason is obvious: These idiots buy into the ideas that this Admin or government itself is out to subvert their freedoms and send their children off to re-education camps to read Karl Marx, or Groucho Marx, their would probably not know the difference. Their guns were a warning: "I don't care if you won the election or not or if the Damnocrats have all the guvments from here to New York City, ifin you go after my assault rifle or maryjuwanna patch you better hope them Secret Service boys got enough guns and know how to use them."

The same idiots were at Petersburg and Appomattox. You know, if they crowd gets real "Glen Becked" and some ballon pops bullets could fly and I would not bet on the survival rate of the gun totin and God fearin. Talk about a gun control legislation aftermath. This is the end result of politics by lies and fearmongering.
