In Philadelphia The New Black Panthers held a billy club and people complained of intimidation both white and black. A Fox newspaper reporter says he was threatened. These New Black Panthers have even been denounced by the original Black Panthers.
My question is "Why would Obama ask to pardon these men who broke the law that protects voters from any interference even a campaign sign within a few yards of a polling place. Forgive me if I can't find the number right now. These men were arrested, charged, convicted, and then, pardoned. Why pardoned?
Now, those of you who know I don't have a lot of respect for Obama's policies must know I respect the office and therefore, the man that holds that office, but this is a whole new ball game.
According to Fox News whose reporter was intimidated and threatened:
"The charges stemmed from an incident at a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008 when three members of the party were accused of trying to threaten voters and block poll and campaign workers by the threat of force - one even brandishing what prosecutors call a deadly weapon.
The three black panthers, Minister King Samir Shabazz, Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were charged in a civil complaint in the final days of the Bush administration with violating the voter rights act by using coercion, threats and intimidation. Shabazz allegedly held a nightstick or baton that prosecutors said he pointed at people and menacingly tapped it. Prosecutors also say he "supports racially motivated violence against non-blacks and Jews."
The Obama administration won the case last month, but moved to dismiss the charges on May 15."
Is there a reason I'm not aware of because had these men been white and did this there would be an outcry. Well, I'm crying out! Tell me why?

:o) Well, if they like the kind of girl that attracts ... not the kind you take home to meet mother I'm sure.
They were sucurity guards. They had Billy Clubs. Why was the reporter so intimidated by them? Did they say they were going to hit him? Was the guards behavior much different than that of other law enforcement officers? I wouldn't have felt intimidated. I'm used to seeing an overwhelming show of force displayed by law enforcement officers. I believe this is much to do about nothing.
That is why Constitutional Law Professor President Barack Obama made his decision.
Security guards at a polling station, wielding clubs? Was this IRAQ? That's total male bovine excrement and no civilized society should allow or permit that type of voter intimidation.
"Constitutional Law Professor?" ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ROFL.
Security guards? That's what they claimed, and were found guilty. so that's lame.
I'm glad you've finally come to the conclusion that no civilized society should allow or permit voter intimidation. While you are at it, don't forget voter disfranchisement and all the other stipulations the Right wants to promote in order to prevent the opposition from voting.
Are you guys willing to allow free and fair elections for all without the vehicle roadblocks that were present in Florida.
Don't close your eyes to the many problems associated with the other sides.
Do you really believe that all those Jewish voters in Florida really intended to vote for Pat Buchanan?
Where were you then? Why didn't you denfend that blantant theft?
Cut me a break. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.
Lloyd,
I know there has been injustice toward black people. However, blacks are not alone in that. I am of Italian heritage and my people tell the tales, too. Does this make the Mafia right? That's their reason for existance. Wrong is wrong for all, but for the President of United States to let this go on, is defenseless. Guilliani stopped the Mafia; now it's time for black leaders like Obama to stop this kind of wrong.
Just because you are used to it, that makes it okay and other people should get used to it too? A dog chewed my arm off so it's okay if that same dog chews your arm off? And you should just get used to it because I'm used to it. Mmm? It's the same concept just a little exaggerated to show the point better.
By the way, one of em was a credentialed Democratic Poll watcher; go figure. +shaking head+
Why was the reporter so intimidated? Well, hmmm ... they had a weapon. Seems like that is enough. But they were not just holding the club (as if that wouldn't be enough), they were brandishing that club and using racial slurs while interfering with people entering. People can be intimidated just having to walk past people sitting around chatting true enough. So a man with a swinging billy club saying nasty things? I'm thinking I'm getting past him ---- but lots of people would just not even try.
Was their behavior different from other law enforcement officers? First, they are not any kind of law enforcement officers. They are 'enforcers' of a certain kind, but they certainly are not any kind of law enforcement people, no matter what they and their buds tell each other behind closed doors, in the law library, speaking at colleges, or on street corners, Mosques, and/or rallies. They are thugs pure and simple, and were acting the part. So yeah, their behavior was different from other law enforcement officers.
But if you mean because so many policemen pick on you or on other black people so they remind you of how these guys were behaving ...? Okay I'll give you that. Sometimes (even many times?) real police officers act like these thugs were acting, resulting in a range of wrongs from uncomfortable to tragic for people of color. That does not mean it's okay for these guys to do it too. Not in a million years.
Much ado about nothing? Seems the Justice department and the Obama administration don't agree with you. They case against them was finally won under the Obama Administration. Just because some idiot somewhere decided to dismiss the charges doesn't mean they weren't guilty.

The reporter was threatened. The courts found them guilty. Have you ever seen "security guards" with billy clubs at a polling place screaming at people? This is unlawful under the voter rights protection act. If you wish to believe their security guard shirts than take issue with the policeman who arrested them and he was black or the judge or found them guilty. Racism is all it is on your part and that of Obama. It's wrong whoever does it. Even the old guard Black Panthers denouce them, but you and Obama defend them?
Obama believes in 2 Americas. He was just protecting his own like the racist he is. I can see why he sat in the pews at Rev Wright's church for 20 years This should not be a surprise.....
He seems to be proving just that.
The stupidity here is mind numbing...how sad.
I agree. ;>
And it is only going to get worse.

The stupidity here is mind numbing...how sad.
Seriously though Spartan. Which part of this story do you find stupid?
Is it the part where a black hate group provided the "security guards" for a polling place?
The part where a member of a black hate group actually had official credentials allowing him to be there, and he and some of his buds decided to come dressed in his gang gear sporting a billy club?
The part where they were accosting voters as they entered?
Or is it the part where some of us think this is actually an important subject to discuss?
Hopefully it's the part where they got caught, convicted, and then let go .. but no one wants to report it. This is the one I find most stupid.
ROTFL...Oh...Tommy Boy(alias Eric Kartman), your attempt at humor is only topped by your pathetic references to articles posted by FAUX Noise. Anyone who uses FAUX as a reference is most definitely swimming in the shallow end of the Gene Pool! You are always good for a laugh!
I can't hit you over the head with my Black Panther club.
Is THAT what you call that tiny little thing, Tommy Boy? Now that IS gay! ROTFLMAO
Are Klansman supposed to be that color? I think my computer screen may be malfunctioning.
+chuckle+ ....
What!? It's funny.
Obama, needs these racist goons to keep people who see what a fake-phony fraud racist the real Obama is. These racist goons are the same racist thugs that Obama worked for in Chicago- ACORN-thugs.
Look at Obama's friends and associates Rev.Wright a total racist and American bashing bigot-Bill Ayers, america hating terrorist- his wife Bernadine Dorn, terrorist bomber who was a close friend of Michelle's.
If the butt-kissing Obama press would investigate ACORN, they would find enough criminality to force Obama out of office. This man has a chip on his shoulder and wants to punish America for it's evil racist ways.
Hmmm...Weatherman "terrorist" William Ayers=BAD....Psychotic Terrorist G. Gordon Liddy=GOOD! What a bunch of pathetic sheep!
You're such a "kidder", Tommy! Liddy is a radio talk show host and Professor William Ayers was voted "Man of the Year" by Chicago Magazine.
Are you still mad because I told you that your idol Lyndon Johnson was a Douche Bag! LOL
Hurry and come up with a pathetic witty comment about the appearance of someone you've never seen...but will VERY soon!

Obama has made clear vis a vis the Bush regime that he is more interested in 'moving forward,' rather than attending to past grievances. While I disagree with this approach, I would hazard a guess that he is simply applying it to other issues as well, such as this particular case.
As to the rest of the discussion...I'm not even gonna go there.
No; simply that he is, as he has said, more interested in moving forward, rather than continuing to focus on that which has gone before.
I have no argument. I already asserted that I disagreed with his approach. I was simply answering the initial question; I never sought to justify the answer, or not.
Intimidation?
Unless they are actually with you in the voting booth, they haven't a clue.
Perhaps if they lynched a few white folks, a la Klan, the populace would get the message.
Nothing scarier than a black man.
Mean while back to Carol's post. Why would Obama pardon them .. or have the charges droped?? That is not what the country put him in office to do. That shoudl be up to the legal people not the President of the United States.
I doubt if the charges were dropped in order to "move forward or forget the past." This case was a slam dunk. Handed to Obama and Holder on a silver platter. An automatic win. Video and audio evidence. Plus eye and ear witnesses. But after a careful inspection of the case, it was still dismissed. Unless something new has happened in the last 24 hours.
Soooo ... IF Obmama was the one who gave the order to drop the charges after the case was already won ... he should explain (don't hold your breath on that one).
IF Holder was the one, he has a bit more explaining to do considering he has the FALN thing in his background (again, not holding my breath on that one).
IF it was a flunky or an annonymous appointee ... Obama and/or Holder are still answerable for it. But not holding my breath for them to keep this on the front burner. I'm thinking they just want it to fade away.

Glad you aren't holding your breathe Deloris... this happened 2 weeks ago and most news agencies (CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, etc) have yet to even mention the story.
Tammy,
Since it's now the end of June and we still haven't heard word one (that I've seen) about this ... I am really glad I wasn't holding my breath. lol
I truly have no clue why they went through the trouble of prosecuting them, then dropping the charges..
Maybe they appealed the case and it was overturned.
It happens sometimes.
Angela,
From what I've been able to find so far, no appeal, no overturn. Just a slam dunk case (from what we know so far) tossed out. See below:
The Obama administration ignores voter intimidation
"The explanation for moving to dismiss the case is shocking. According to the Department of Justice: "These same Defendants have made no appearance and have filed no pleadings with the Court. Nor have they otherwise raised any other defenses to this action. Therefore, the United States has the right ... to dismiss voluntarily this action against the Defendants." In other words, because the defendants haven't tried to defend themselves, the Justice Department won't punish them."
Thanks! Sorry for the generic comment but I'm wading through over 500 e-mails.
