I agree with what Nelson says but Carol this statement takes it to far
"Those of you who think Obama's socialist policies are good, should pay the taxes."
Please I don't like Obama's policies. I don't like what he is doing to this country but I have three children I am not stupid enough to get myself thrown in jail for not paying my taxes and leave nobody to care for my kids. Just because I pay my taxes does not mean I think Obama's policies are good.
And just whom gives a rat's arse what "Coach" says? Seems to me he is jumping on the bandwagon because he hasn't had a job in the past few years.
He's actually going to be in a network series this fall. He works fairly regularly. He's a good actor, but like a lot of entertainers on both sides of the divide, he thinks that he's bigger than life, and that's going to bite him in the butt.
Donna That would be inncorrect he has been in several movies and TV series over the past few years.
I don't consider a one day "shoot" , or guest spot, a job. He has worked only sporadically at best since his series went off the air. He is making the rounds of the Right wing shows for PUBLICITY. Geez, take a break form the kool-ade, will ya?
Donna you need to take a look at what he has done. He had done a lot more than guest appearances. You comment about the kool aid was pretty ignorant considering I was talking about his career and notihng more. I was not speaking of anything political.
I did take a look before I ever posted a comment. He has a small part in Sandra Bullock's new flick, and did a few episodes of "My Name is Earl", in '07. Thats the extent of it for the past two years.
I only went back to 2005 since you said few years.
The Company Men (2010) (filming)
The Proposal (2009) .... Joe Paxton
"CSI: NY" .... Robert Dunbrook (3 episodes, 2009)
- Pay Up (2009) TV episode .... Robert Dunbrook
- The Past, Present and Murder (2009) TV episode .... Robert Dunbrook
- The Party's Over (2009) TV episode .... Robert Dunbrook
"Parenthood" (2009) TV series .... Zeek Braverman
"My Name Is Earl" .... Warden Jerry Hazelwood (4 episodes, 2007)
- Early Release (2007) TV episode .... Warden Jerry Hazelwood
- Burn Victim (2007) TV episode .... Warden Jerry Hazelwood
- Randy in Charge: Of Our Days and Our Nights (2007) TV episode .... Warden Jerry Hazelwood
- The Gangs of Camden County (2007) TV episode .... Warden Jerry Hazelwood
Blades of Glory (2007) .... Coach
The Family Stone (2005) .... Kelly Stone
Mr. Incredible and Pals (2005) (V) (voice) .... 'Real' Mr. Incredible
Lets break this down, Chris. Figuring a sit-com episode takes a week to film, and his film roles were all secondary, so I assume a month tops for each of those, I figure in the past four years, according to your above list, he has worked approx. 28 weeks out of the past 208 (208 weeks = 4 years)....Yep, thats a steady job all right.
"Seems to me he is jumping on the bandwagon because he hasn't had a job in the past few years"
You are missing the point. That was your statement. Which was not true. I could care less if he works or not but you make a statement in which the facts don't backs it up.
Ok, my mistake. He hasn't had a STEADY job in the past few years.
Yes he has. He has a tv series. If that is not a steady job in Hollywood then what do you consider a steady job?
He has a job NOW, and these spots are all a part of the publicity junket to promote it. It gets his name in the news, as this article demonstrates.
Now if Nelson were a Democrat and dared to express an opinion he would be barbecued by the wingnuts.
People that live in severely damaged glass houses really should not throw anything let alone stones.
I think he's going to look good in that jail cell with Wesley Snipes and Bubba.
Sorry, but I disagree with this approach. I find it hypocritical that he suggests an illegal action to combat what he feels is a wrong. I also find it irresponsible for someone that can afford high-powered lawyers to "get him off the hook" would suggest to Joe American (that can't afford the same!) to behave in that way!
By the way when I say I agree with what he says I mean about the government needing to be held responsible and accountable etc... not with suggesting everyone break the law.
I have to strongly disagree with Mr. Nelson. I have representation. It's not my fault the people where I lived re-elected democratic congressman Tim Bishop, or that the state in general elected Chuck Schumer. (Hildebrand on the other hand was appointed but we as a state elected the Governor who appointed him so it's still good.) They represent me.
Moreover, I have a command from a higher authority. In the Gospels we have the command "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's." (In this case it is more like "Give to the Federal Reserve what is the Federal Reserve's.)
So even though I do not "support" Obama's socialist policies, even though I think massive spending is "not good" I cannot, on the basis of representation withhold my taxes.
I will, on the other hand, push hard to get new representation.
With you Christopher.
Your right, Christ said this) This is a sin and has nothing good to come from it.
I think Nelson got this taxes without representation thing wrong and a sure fire way to get his behind locked up with the rest of the tax cheats. I know someone that was a contractor and got paid a lot in cash in order to avoid taxes when the IRS got finshed with him he didn't have a dime.
Not all tax cheats go to jail. Some get hired to be Treasurer. +shrug+ ... You had to know that was coming. :)
I wonder how conservatives and Republicans would have reacted if some liberal actor had publicly declared they weren't going to pay their taxes because they disagreed vehemently with the Bush administration.
Christopher B. has it right, above. One cannot claim they are without representation just because their candidate didn't win. There was an election. You had the opportunity to vote, to campaign on behalf of your preferred candidate, to run yourself if that is your inclination. You lost. That is not an excuse for not paying your taxes.
I hope Nelson goes to jail for violating the law just as any ordinary person would.
There were famos people who stood up and disagreed with Bush. But Bush didn;t take the taxpayers money to bail out car companys. and Banks. That is what Mr. Nelson is talking about
Um, first of all, Deloris, Bush did take the taxpayers money to bail out the banks. He did it first, before Obama's inauguration, if you recall.
But that is entirely beside the point. Bush also used taxpayers money to fund an illegal invasion and conquest of a country with no connection to 9/11, using 9/111 as an excuse, with no WMDs, using WMDs as an excuse. Bailing out banks and auto companies is not the only possible example of misuse of public funds that taxpayers and voters may wish to protest.
But there is no provision in the constitution, no excuse in the declaration of independence and no tradition in American history to justify withholding taxes because you don't like the policies of the elected representative you did not vote for.
Liberals opposed Bush verbally and were accused by many on the right of being traitors. If they had talked about withholding taxes Limbaugh et al would have called for their rendition to Guantanamo.
No we used CHinas money and printed paper for us silly. BIG BIG difference here.
When the tax man commeth he will not be denied.
"I wonder how conservatives and Republicans would have reacted if some liberal actor had publicly declared they weren't going to pay their taxes because they disagreed vehemently with the Bush administration."
Well Rory,
I as a conservative would say the same thing about those tax dodgers on either side....Stupid is as stupid does.
you mean Nelson if a tax cheat, can't just pay what he would owe?, just like Obama cabinet member tax-cheats. Lets have 250,000 tax revolt's for starters-hoping to lead to a million or more. Then what? is the corrupt politician and president going to put all of them in jail-pay for their incarceration-families go on welfare, government has to pay for the kids schooling, remember Joe-blow-biden said Barack and I will pay for your college educations. How about 50 million people like the amount of people who did not vote for the socialist tax maniac and his like-minded Congress.
Put all these tax cheats like Geithner in jail?.. There are millions of older proud Americans who quite frankly are-bored- me included- I will do a stretch for the good of the country, Obama could send his gang-ACORN- TO LEASE BUSES, go to senior centers and haul away the elderly tax cheats.
Let all the Obama-con-droids, pick up the slack for these righteous geezers now in prison. you tax me please Obama folk-can step-up to the plate and pay more for your King Obama.
I would love to see the day when the American people finally act not just say, this is it -enough and start to revolt against the madness and corruption going on in Washington for the last 50 plus years. In four months Obama has sunk this country into 15 trillion dollar debt-took control of banks-took control of auto companies-continues to give billions to auto unions- this man ignores contracts-laws, forces people who had shares in these companies to take pennies on their stocks which is against the law. Obama is changing America alright-and like he said in LA, TO ANOTHER !!
OO-H BAMA DROID MOB- ya- AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN YET. Mr. Presidente, people are starting to see the real Obama, and soon Mr.Presidente you will hear from all of us. use some stimulus money for more political prisoners, and I want cable tv in my cell or I will get the ACLU after you and SUE!
mickey;
They took you off the french fry station and threw you in a jail without cable?
No wonder you're batshit crazy.
I wonder why celebrities think we are going to be influenced by their opinion. Personally I don't care what his view is, and it isn't going to influence my opinion in the least.
Are you telling me that I should not have been paying taxes during the Bush years because I disagreed with his policies? Are you telling us that if our candidate loses the election we should not pay taxes?
I see you are opposed to democracy. What other form of government do you favor?
I didnt pay and now Im in chapter 13 bankrupcty. BOOOOOOOOOO
Its called a freash start, slate is clean for me to have a new life
Just try not paying your taxes! The IRS is relentless. You will end up with a free room and meals.
Wait a minute Carol..weren't you one of the people who were screaming about the cabinet candidates not paying taxes..but now your ADVOCATING NOT paying them?? Hmm.... What's good for the goose..
If coach says jump, you jump.
I agree with him, but he will do time if he doesn't pay his taxes.
I think he is trying to make a statment.. Wake up America. Stand together and make a stand. We need to stop this madness. He has probably already paid his taxes.
Larry, I am telling you to wake-up to what is happening to our country. It's time the people take a stand. The fact that it is happening during Obama's reign matters not.
It is long past the time that the people go to battle against a corrupt political class that have driven every state and city into financial ruin-a fact. These politicians are making fools of us-passing billion dollar bills into law without ever reading them. Larry, when is enough enough for you?-60%-70% income tax-while Obama cabinet members do not pay their taxes. I could care less who is in power in the white house, the time has come to stop these crooks from stealing our hard earned paychecks.
American pvt. industry for Gods sake doesn't even own a auto company any longer- Obama motors!! I have a dream: "Over a million fed-up Americans refuse to pay their taxes". Try and put these patriots in jail Mr. Presidente what ever party you belong to.
Look at Kalifornia, Larry, run by a bunch of idiots and thieves-Arnold is just our typical brain-dead government leader. Rid ourselves of all of them and start over-with everyday people who serve for 6 month terms, go to Washington twice A YEAR AND DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR STATE.---No pensions-no vacations- no travel trip on our dime-no health-care ins.- no cost of living raises from our "paychecks"-no 200 paid staffers to do their work, and when found guilty of a crime-fired and put in prison.
Amen! These policians are spending our money and nobody not left or right is getting anything for it besides a lower paycheck. I even have potholes on my streets. How about some representation with meaning.
thanks for sharing
Melissa Etheridge and others have said they will refuse to pay taxes thill Gay marriage is again made legal in CA.
They then, shouldn't pay state taxes as they have a problem with state government as a protest.
That is probably what they (Rosie o'Donnell, Ellen, Melissa) meant.
I'm not paying taxes until we get rid of all the atomic bombs. I don't support that one accident could blow up the whole world and kill everything larger than a cockroach.
Interesting Peter. I think I agree you with. That's one! But I'm paying taxes because I'm a coward.
I'd be thrilled, Rory. It's wrong and it's illegal to force taxes on American. The Federal Income tax was a temporary tax to pay for WWII. It was to be repealed after the war, but as the government grew and Democrats greedily wanted more, the tax stayed. Now, if we don't pay, we go to jail. I'm too cowardly not to pay, but if he really goes through with this and has the nerve, I applaud his courage.
I file every year, since 88 and never have to pay anything, alswas get about $26 refund. This year it was supposed to be $326 but the state confiscated $300 towards paying themselves back for the Medicare they paid out for me. Fair enough!
Alas, the ability for the federal government to pass taxes on the populus is written into the U.S. Constitution. Darn thing.
well if he dont pay taxes, then we wont see him act no more because they will come after his botty
gee not a lost to me,,,,
except the people whose taxes paid for food stamps and welfare.
