Date Night

Date night for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, a cherished ritual for the first couple, has become a bit more complicated these days. With such high security, the dates can no longer be a spontaneous, random night out.
In spite of all the required planning, the First Couple finally got a chance to a dine out “alone."
Saturday night the couple dined for two hours at Citronelle in Georgetown, enjoying a menu created just for them. Several hundred onlookers had gathered behind the yellow police tape when it was time head back to the White House in the motorcade.
To top off the evening the President and First Lady took a private stroll, hand in hand, down the driveway of the White House South Lawn.

Sojourner Truth
First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled a bust of Sojourner Truth in Emancipation Hall of the US Capitol last week.
Sojourner Truth was an abolitionist and crusader for women’s rights to vote. She delivered her signature speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?” at a women’s rights convention i
n 1851. Truth is the first African-American woman to be honored with a bust in the Capitol.
After unveiling the bust, the First Lady said, “I hope that Sojourner Truth would be proud to see me, a descendent of slaves, serving as the first lady of the United States of America.”
Undoubtedly, she would be very proud of Michelle Obama.
The First Lady was joined at the unveiling by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee.

Thanks for your great work.
You definitely fill in the gaps of the coverage that I engage in--I lean towards politically hot issues yet, the social and Michelle moments are noteworthy and interesting. Thanks for lending another eye to a National prize worth following.
Good post, Cheryl, as usual, you live up and beyond the standards of what to write about. Thanks for that,
Marilyn
I love having a first lady I'm proud of. Sojourner would have been beyond thrilled. Almost make's you wish for time travel!
something I think you should read spotlighted
Interesting!
I don't know why, but when news media shared video of the Obama's walking the other night (same as the stills you have here) something inside me was suddenly pleased and felt reassured. I know such feelings on my part are fleeting and may not last, but it has been long years since one of our President's presented such a pleasant display of domestic humanity.
Kudos !!
Never heard of Sojourner before reading this. Thanks for the update.
There was an interesting comment made by either Robert Gibbs or the photographer that said the Obamas have a gift of being able to connect and shut everyone else out, if only for a few seconds. That is love. How lovely is that?
I applaud them.
