Though I am delighted with the outcome of the election, we should not ignore the damage that has been done during the last eight years. I am content to forgive those individuals who contributed to our present sad state through incompetence, but forgiveness should not be in the offing for those who damaged the United States through deliberate criminal acts. If the new administration does not encourage the new Justice Department to investigate allegations of crimes committed by government officials during the preceding eight years, they can rightfully be accused of abetting the actions of rogue officials.
President Elect Obama must quickly order the investigation of those government officials who are suspected of illegal acts during their tenures. Many would say that the new administration should tackle the economic problems before anything else; I say that justice must be dispensed swiftly if it is to be effective in discouraging future bad acts.
The US has the reputation abroad of having no reluctance in incarcerating large numbers of its citizens, many of whom are serving prison sentences for petty and non-violent crimes. It would be a stain, not easily removed, if we are seen by the world as a country that metes out punishment based on status. If prosecutions do not occur, the accurate interpretation will be that the high ranking can undermine the Constitution and walk away with their taxpayer provided benefits and their reputations intact while the less prominent are imprisoned for minor addictions.

Robert, you say on your name space, that you are an "optimist". Why not take a more optimistic attitude toward Obama?
Everybody in your party say we should give him a break, well I watch CSPAN too and watch the condemnation from the jump start. If they want support any part of their President, why should I be the one?
The Netherlands capitulated faster than when Germany attacked them.
WWII.. Germany declared war upon the USA as part of their alliance with Japan. There was no avoiding war in Europe once war had been declared on us. Further, FDR did not "drop 2 atomic bombs on Japanese civilians." Truman was in office by the time the weapons were used in August, 1945. But anyway, I think a certain Austrian gets the credit for WWII.
On to Korea. The prevailing attitude in our country during the 50's and 60's was the fear of the spread of Communism; the "DOmino Effect"(A little side effect of the Cold War.) and all that. When Communist North Korea invaded South Korea, we came to their aid. Do we even need to mention the paranoia in our country about "The Red Menace"? People such as McCarthy with his witch hunts, and a fellow by the name of Richard Nixon was pretty active as well. (Alger Hiss is a name that comes to mind.)
Vietnam. Kennedy did not "start" Vietnam at all. In fact, shortly after the partition of that country in Geneva, we began sending "Military Advisors" to South Vietnam...Under the Eisenhower administration. In fact, the Eisonhower administration actively backed France financially during their fight with the Viet Minh.
But if you must credit someone with actually starting the war, it would have to be Johnson since the first combat troops didn't arrive in DaNang until 1965.Started, stopped, started, stopped the bombing. He was employing the carrot and stick method of trying to get Ho Chi Minh to "see reason." Guess what, so did Nixon.
On to good ole Tricky Dicky. You forgot to mention how he illegally invaded Cambodia during the Vietnam war.
Carter, no argument there, I agree he was the weakest president we've had when it came to foreign policy. However, he did not send "many soldiers to Iran." He sent one rescue mission that failed.
Clinton, he evaded the draft to get out of Vietnam as did many, many people who were able. One that comes to mind is one George W. Bush, who managed to avoid it by going into the National Guard.(Didn't it come out that he never actually served in the Guard?)
You seem to have been a lifer in the army. (From the Kennedy through the Clinton years.) I have to say hearing someone who was sworn to protect and defend the constitution say, "I'll never accept him" when referring to the man elected as provided by the very same constitution you were swown to protect and defend.. Is sickening. No really, I get it that you don't like Obama. But you really need to get over it.
Oh and just a case in point, Lincoln was the first Republican to become President.
Oh yes, one more thing, from your own profile. "I am an optimist who tries to find a common good in things. I am usually quiet, but will stand up for what is right and will defend it vigorously. My favorite saying is "You can't be a beacon if your light don't shine.""
Why don't you use some of that omptimism now, and at least wait until he takes office before talking about how bad of a president he is. Oh and if you plan to lump me in with "You Democrats..." Don't bother, i'm a Republican.
Linda W., I'm not singling out Republicans for prosecution; I favor investigations of any political figures who may have committed crimes. And, Robert W., you'll get no argument from me regarding Bill Clinton's character.
For those of you who would like to know who the chicken hawks are in Congress, you can go to: http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html
Oh, you made my day today buddy. And if you would do your research, you'd find that Abraham Lincold was defeated in1857, however he won the election as he was ran as the National Union Party. So he wasn't a Republican, just like Joe Liberman is now an Indipendent. Go figure.
I agree about George W. Bush and becoming a pilot in the Air National Guard. At least he did something a hell lot more than Clinton. Read the transcripts about his political escapades.
If you will remember, the National Guard never went to Vietnam, but if he had to go, he would have to go. Remember how many Guard and reserves in Iraq, Afganistan, and 1991 Desert too. I remember a shit of load airplanes, pilots, and soldiers there. They did their part also. I have the most admire fo our Guard soldiers and Airmen & women for their hard work, however a runtrip to hide in Canada does not gain my admiration.
You say that I was apparently a Army "Lifer", so actually I take that as a good thing. Did I run the whole time what you said, no, I wasn't there all of that time: I enlisted in 1962 through 1967, which my tour in Vietnam from 1965 - 1967. Kicked my ass and got out. Went back in from 1972 - 1994 while I was retired after 26 years. I wanted to go for 30 years career, but a heart attack during a 4 mile run hit me and was forced to retire because I was well over 20 years service.
If you ever wanna bullshit, give me a note, we can converse.
