Barack Obama winning the Democratic Presidential nominee means we're past being a colorblind society…right? Ergh, maybe not. At the Republican state convention this weekend in Texas, a vendor was selling a button that read, "If Obama is President…will we still call it The White House?"

Another button read, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation."
What do you think of this? Humorous, offensive, or a complete embarrassment for the Republican Party?

Joe Wilson,

Council of Conservative Citizens,
Obama waffles, etc.
and the oft-repeated statement "It's not about race!"
"I have no problem with that, all is far in love and war." This is disgusting and proves how low we can stoop in this country and still have people actually defend the behavior. The Republicans keep pushing the decency envelope further and further with their behavior and many Americans are like frogs in a pot of slowly warming water - they go right along with them when they should be standing up against this behavior. Family values party? Moral majority? Every day they prove with some other assanine act that they are the farthest thing from that.
The time and effort put into the writing? The thoroughness of the investigation?
I'll ask the tough question. Was the Republican Party selling this button, or some street vendor?
P.S.. I find "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation." very ammusing
Not only is it offensive it's hack. Seriously. If you're going to offend, put a little creativity into it.
As far as buttons go, I think the anti-RINO buttons are the worst. I thought it was time that someone should give some genuine RINO and DINO affection to the world.
I've been telling people that want to compromise with these people that conservatives only compromise from weakness, and that they practice politics as war by other means, and I've gotten a lot of flack for it. This is validation from their own mouths. No compromise with today's conservative will ever benefit a liberal cause, now or in the future. Read it again, and absorb it, people.
The gop has not had any shame for 30+ years.
At least it won't qualify as "Nut House" anymore.
Wow, that's mature.
They let you run the local KKK group of idiots even though you're
out of the closet oh Sen. Craig Jr.?
Thank you, Charles.
I went to an Obama rally recently and unofficial vendors were lining the streets. It's sad, when the campaign has to send volunteers out to stand next to them and announced that what they are selling has NOT been approved by the campaign.
However, on the flip side, policy differences, and attacks on a persons position is OK and must not be called racist. We must make sure our leaders are fully scrutinized and held accountable for their views, their votes, and their actions. Regardless of party we must ensure that our candidates are put through the harshest tests possible. Because the office which they seek will make these tests look like a walk in the park.
I was at dinner 1 week ago with about eight friends and this topic of the "White House" came up. (the name I mean) Well hold on friends, but did you know a lot of people have alway's looked at the name "White House" as a derogatory title.
People that are non-white have seen it for years as a title blocking them from that dream. (Becoming Pres.) I don't know should we change it to the "AMERICAN HOUSE"?
Just thought I would share that.
Bottom line the buttons have no bearing on the republicans (we hope) and I agree that it has no place and was inapropriate.
I also agree we need to make thes offenses and the people that make them accountable. They have no place in the USA at all.
Excellent article!
Damn they pissed me off. Laughing at purple heart recipients then making more! Sick bastards!
Why is it that everytime a white dont vote for a black they are racist.
Why when some idiot like the one selling buttons comes along, they think we are all like that.
Why cant people just love one another? The right to vote is one we havent lost yet.
That is why I am afraid of Baraka.
Donald M., can't you see the irony in your comment? If race is not an issue, then why do you choose to make fun of Obama's name?
No, but he'd of bought one, I'd bet.
Be prepaired to be ill.

The only thing that pissed me off more was Bush, laughing at the war.
He [Bush] put up dorky looking pictures of himself. A recurring joke involved photos of the president in awkward positions-bent over as if he's looking under a table, leaning to look out a window-accompanied by remarks such as "Those weapons of mass destruction must be somewhere!" and "Nope, no weapons over there!" and "Maybe under here?"
Meanwhile, more planes with flag draped caskets arrived in the US from Iraq.
Very freaking funny Mr. Prsident!
I read once that at the time of the founding fathers that the worst thing you say to a politician was to call him a party man. My how times have changed.
You saw none of the comedy show appearances by Hillary?
I find them stupid, not offensive. No one who thinks can put much stock in them. However, race will come into this campaign, without doubt. You see it already with such things as Linda G. saying that Obama was racist in the past.
Of course, it depends on one's definition of racist. If that is meant to denigrate the object of its statement, that is one thing. If it is simply a person being sensitive to race, it is another matter and could apply to Obama or many others including the makers of such remarks.
Republicans are not, by nature, racist. They pushed for civil rights long before Democrats and were instrumental in passage of the civil rights legislation. However, as soon as that happened, Democrats started becoming Republicans as they felt that they had been betrayed by the party they thought believed in segregation. So, I guess, that is where the concept of Republicans as racist gets its traction.
I understand what you are saying but must disagree to the extent that we do, indeed, have the right to be offended by someone else's remarks. What we choose to do about it is another matter, but our feelings are not bound by legislation or constitution.
One may say whatever he wishes but if he creates hard feelings, he needn't expect those offended to feel charitable towards himself. Just tain't gonna happen. It's still the land of free speech and you have the right to be as offensive as you wish as long as your actions do not infringe on someone else's rights.
Donna
In case you haven't caught on, I think these buttons are extremely offensive!
2. striking while the iron is hot,so to speak, to make the all American dollah (not a misspelling)
"What do you think of this?"..............."If Obama is President…will we still call it The White House?"
I see no humor in it at all, just sheer ignorance.
