Tribute to Neil Gaiman Contest
It's been awhile since we've had a contest, so we thought that in celebration of our physical birthday as a group, we would celebrate by paying homage and tribute to an outstanding author who has inspired many of our members throughout the years visually, literarily, and more. Neil Gaiman has been a huge influence on many of our members. There are also many who are not familiar with his work so we wanted to take the time to let everyone get to know one of our favorite authors.
In honor of Mr. Gaiman, we will be holding a contest based around our prize pack. The prize pack, valued at more than $50 USD, will contain autographed copies of Mirrormask-the book, Stardust-The Graphic Novel, and Shoggoth's Old Peculiar-in Chapbook form.
The criteria:
You must write a short story of no less than 2500 words and no more than 12,500 words inspired by one of the titles in the prizepack. You have three choices and infinite creativity, as we will not be accepting any works of fanfiction for this competiton. You will borrow nothing more from Mr. Gaiman except for the title (which may be altered after the contest if you would like to try publication.) All contestants must register with our archives and submit here:
http://www.circleofcrones.net/e-fiction/eFiction1.1/index.php
All entries must note summararily that they are meant for the contest so they can been catalogued in the display area on the site. All entries are due by no later than Midnight EST, May 2nd, 2007. Entries will then be judged by the entire community via polls. In the event of a tie, a panel of predetermined judges will decide the outcome. Decisions of the competition panel will be final.
The three titles for inspriation again:
Stardust, Mirrormask & Shoggoth's Old Peculiar
The duration of this contest is approximately six weeks, and will take the place of the April Crone's Challenge.
You don't have to be familiar with Neil Gaiman's work to enter this contest, as we feel that perhaps the less familiarity you have, the more original your work is likely to be.
If you have any questions about this competition, please feel free to contact me at LlewellynMcellis[at]circleofcrones[dot]com
We are very much looking forward to your submissions this time around, and wish you all the very best of luck.
