NBJC Deplores Violent Attack
The National Black Justice Coalition deplores the violent attack against Michael Sandy, a black gay man who was brutally beaten in a hate crime in New York on Sunday, October 8, 2006. Our thoughts go out to Michael Sandy and to his family in this time of need.
"We are pleased that police have arrested suspects in the case, and we expect that justice will be swift and appropriate," said NBJC CEO and Executive Director H. Alexander Robinson. "However, hate crimes are still far too common in our country, and Black people are often the victims of these crimes," he added.
NBJC supports hate crimes laws that monitor hate crimes and impose longer sentences on the convicted perpetrators of such crimes. We will be watching this case closely.

And so are many of all the other races. Why single out "color" in your comments?
We don't apologize for our heightened sensitivity when these crimes are committed against black Americans based on race or same gender loving people based on our perceived or actual sexual orientation. However, our vision is of a world free from all types of bigotry and oppression.
