I found it thoroughly amusing when I woke this morning to a news story about a secnator who called President Obama a liar to his face! Well, good for the senator! If he lied about providing health care to illegal immigrants, then he should be called on it. Just as he should be called on the fact that he ran on a promise of removing the troops from Iraq, only to perpetuate another ill-conceived war by sending them to Afghanistan. Liar! Liar! Pants on fire!
But I digress. I think Obama is doing the best job he can with what he inherited.
Now what really fries my potatoes.
For eight years, George W. Bush deceived, mislead, and lied through his teeth to this country. He has still not attended a single memorial service for any of the thousands of servicemen and women who heeded his call to duty, unlike the manner in which he got his big-shot father's friends to keep him from getting shot at in Viet Nam.
Did anyone on the senate floor ever call Bush a liar to his face? No! Why? Because they didn't want to disrespect the office of POTUS. What a crock of manure! The only person who ever disrespected the office of the president was Bush himself, the minute he set foot in it.
Rather than go through all of the misdeeds that the Bush administration executed, one thing still stands out in my mind. Fifty million dollars to investigate what went wrong during the 1986 shuttle disaster (rightfully so), seventy million dollars spent trying to pin the tail on Clinton (unrightfully so), and seventeen million dollars to investigate 9/11, the biggest crime that has ever taken place on our soil. We saw where Bush's priorites were, and they surely weren't with the American people or the victims of a tragedy that will never go away. His only goal was to keep anyone in his administration from being held responsible for the plethora of things that went wrong on 9/11. And this from a man who swore to bring accountability back to the White House. Yeah, right.
While I think it is a bad idea to give illegal immigrants free health care (when I have gone for years without it because I cannot afford it), I also think it is a bad idea for the GOP to fight every health care initiative the Democrats bring up, as they did with Hillary Clinton's health care plan back in the '90s. (That plan would have insured more Americans than any plan Obama is suggesting, which is why I thought, and still do think, that Hillary should be president.) If the GOP has its way, there will be no more services to the elderly, no more educational services to disadvantaged youth, no more social security, lower taxes to the rich, even less tax liabilities to corporations, higher CEO compensation for failing companies that are being bailed out with our tax dollars, and if you can't make it on your own then screw you, buddy! Grow up, get a job (perhaps two or three?) and make your own way. No more handouts from this country! Geez, the GOP has already kept millions of children from receiving free health care and gutted the Head Start programs.
So let's leave Mr. Obama alone to do the best he can with the mess that was left to him. And the next person who thinks he should call him a liar should think twice about how they let Bush get away with murder for eight long years.
