Having a total disgust of the U.S. Media, I have turned to a private source for my information about the war in Iraq. Michael Yon was a soldier. Not knowing anything about such things, I don't know what kind of soldier, but I know he wasn't just a private. When he returned to the States, he couldn't figure out the gap between what the news was saying and what "his buddies" were telling him, so he decided to find out for himself. He returned to Iraq as a war correspondent and sends regular reports from all over Iraq. If you want to know his personal story, go to his website - http://www.michaelyon-online.com/ .
What inspired me to write this article is my latest email from him. It is awesome! Here is an excerpt, but to get the full message you need to click here: Update from Michael Yon, War Correspondent
"I've never seen so much hope among the Iraqis or our soldiers....the fact is I have not personally experienced combat in months...."
This quote is taken from the page on his website you get to by clicking "Vox Sententia." (I have no idea what that means. Does anyone?)
"Interest in the war is waning back home, I'm told, which may explain the thinning ranks of reporters over here. Ironically, with fewer reporters here every day, it's even more critical to keep the few sources of news on the ground working."
Michael Yon has great photographs and a pleasant writing style that is easy to read, if it is, at times, a little technical for us non-soldiers. If you were around during the Vietnam War, you will appreciate his articles and point of view - real and down-to-earth.
DO check out his website and see what is REALLY happening in Iraq.

If you want to read a story and see a photo that will bring tears to your eyes, follow this link to a page on Michael Yon's website. THIS is WHY we are fighting in Iraq. The people of Iraq will praise us - no thanks to the "let's-not-get-involved activists."
