The Democrats weren't alone while celebrating on election night. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was pretty happy too.
"Since Washington's hostile and hawkish policies have always been against the Iranian nation," Khamenei stated, "this defeat is actually an obvious victory for the Iranian nation."
And back at home, U.S.-based Council on American - Islamic Relations (CAIR) celebrated the election of its beloved son and first-ever Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison (D-MN).
Interestingly enough CAIR organizational ancestry includes the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), founded by Hamas senior member Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook.
CAIR's founding board chairman (and former IAP president) Omar Ahmed: is reputed to have declared: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant... The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth." http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=32341
Just thought it was worth noting.

OK. If you say so.
I just hope he didn't really.
If some leaners could just get their stuff together, then something could be accomplished, but, gosh darnit, they won with conservative leaning democrats last week, so ummm, they now have the cats pajamas.
That says it all doesn't it? The writer can't even say for sure he said it.
I thank God there are those that know better and will end up carrying the water for the peace-nik know it alls again.
WoPo a 'front for the left" and the "mouthpiece for liberals" - i wonder why?
I have no doubt there are those out there that want to see us dead. That is not my point.
Funny, I see articles there all the time that I take issue with as slanted to the right. Why is that?
And the VAST majority of Americans are celebrating as well so that means they are all in good company.
Interestingly, only the Republicans, the fascists, the military industrial complex, the neoKKKons, and the television evangelists are whining about their loss. What does that say about them?
Naah...I don't want to call Italy, France, and Germany terrorist countries. I'll just say they belong to the "Terrorist Booster Club". Whenever the Islamo-Facists say jump, they ask "How High?"
Let's talk about Italy.
I don't know if you're old enough to remember or even care about the Achille Lauro Incident. http://eightiesclub.tripod.com/id301.htm
Long story short: Palestinian terrorists seized control of the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship carrying over 400 passengers and crew, of whom 19 were Americans. Communicating by ship-to-shore radio, the hijackers demanded the release of fifty of their Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF) comrades imprisoned in Israel.
Isreal and U.S. say no deal.
The terrorists execute an American tourist named Leon Klinghoffer, a retired appliance manufacturer from Manhattan. The victim of two strokes, Klinghoffer had been wheelchair-bound. He was shot in the chest and head and his body tossed into the sea.
Then they bail and escape to Egypt.
Israeli intelligence learned that Arafat's right-hand man, Abul Abbas -- cofounder of the PLF, commander of a 1500-man Palestinian army based in Tunis, and one of the world's most wanted terrorists -- had masterminded the hijacking.
Ignoring U.S. protests, the Egyptian government rushed Abul Abbas and the Achille Lauro hijackers into an EgyptAir 737 charter plane bound for Tunis.
When word reached President Reagan that the terrorists were getting away. He authorized the carrier USS Saratoga, patrolling the Adriatic Sea, to put seven F-14 Tomcats into the air. Their orders: divert the Egyptian aircraft to a NATO base at Sigonella, Sicily. The appearance of the Tomcats unnerved the EgyptAir pilot, who compliantly altered course for Sicily.
Initially the Italians were not disposed to cooperate, scrambling their own warplanes to prevent a landing at Sigonella, but after a call from Reagan, Italy's Prime Minister Bettino Craxi gave permission to land. The American plan was to load the Palestinians onto a U.S. military aircraft and transport them to the States. But when American troops encircled the 737 they found themselves surrounded in turn by Italian soldiers. Italy had decided that since the Achille Lauro was an Italian vessel, the hijackers should be tried in Italian courts. The terrorists faced charges of premeditated murder, kidnapping and hijacking. When Reagan called Craxi this time, the Italian leader wouldn't budge -- Abul Abbas and his cronies would remain in Italian hands. After Arafat threatened *uncontrollable reactions" if the Italians turned Abbas over to the Americans, Italy refused a U.S. request to extradite the terrorist leader. Abbas was soon freed.
Yep, Italy a charter member of the "Terrorist Booster Club".
The French are practically a Moslem country themselves these days. No surprise about their membership in the club.
Germany, now they surprise me. Gotta do some digging on them.#
You write: "The Democrats weren't alone while celebrating on election night." That's true, but why didn't you include some of the more than 2000 headlines from every country around the world, basically saying the same thing? Every country (with the exception of maybe Israel, china and Japan, see below) has made it clear they are thrilled with the Democratic takeover. Whether friend or foe. You may consider France, Italy and others terrorist-friendly, or something equally as absurd; but the truth remains that from Australia to Iceland, people are celebrating as if they themselves have been liberated.
What does that say for our current leader? Not much. Why are other countries as happy as 60% of Americans with the outcome? Because they know that good or bad, the Dems will take a more protectionist stance on international trade issues (which is good for America), and demand more responsibility from our allies in the rebuilding of Iraq, and on the war on terror. They know the Democrats and the US will once again practice International Diplomacy, strength of convictions based on intellectual and intelligent information, and refrain from wars of choice. Basically, we will once again become the worlds superpower, and earn the respect of the world. Whether they love us or hate us, we had always been respected. Until the recent past.
Here are just a few headlines and excerpts, starting with an insightful comment from Ahmadinejad...he sums up the basic truth of the election, and how most American commentators, newspapers, conservative and democratic pundits all summed up the midterm election results.
The resignation of Rumsfeld also garnered joy and celebrations around the world, so I included a few of those, too.

"The result of this election indicates that the majority of American people are dissatisfied and are fed up with the policies of the American administration," the IRNA state news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

World reaction: Bush's authority weakened
By Hugh Williamson in Berlin, Martin Arnold in Paris and David Pilling in Tokyo
"US president George Bush's authority in world politics has been weakened by the Democrats' sweeping gains in the mid-term elections, analysts said on Wednesday, with some fearing countries such as Iran and North Korea could exploit his new weakness.
"If Mr Bush is seen [internationally] as the loser today, then many countries might see it as their chance" to stand up to Washington, according to John Hulsman, a US expert and visiting scholar at Berlin's DGAP foreign affairs think tank....
Analysts said other knock-on effects are likely to include a more protectionist stance on international trade issues by the Democrat-led House, and more pressure on European and other allies to take on additional responsibilities in building economic and political stability in Iraq, commentators said. "

In an article for Spiegel Online:
"The US government of Republicans and neo-conservatives, which is a reckless government of idiots, will be reined in with the Democrats taking over the House," Oraib Rintawi, President of the Al Quds Centre for Political Studies in Amman, told SPIEGEL ONLINE before it was clear that the Senate had also tipped toward the Democrats. ''The ability of the US to fuel crisis and start wars in the region will drop drastically." The Democratic take-over of Congress "is in the interest of all parties in the region...."

ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MASSIMO D'ALEMA
"A cycle has ended. The cycle of pre-emptive wars, of unilateralism, ends in great failure.
"This is the truth that is becoming clear also to the American public. A new cycle must begin and I think there is a great responsibility for Europe."

Commentary by Muhammad Isa al-Sharqawi in Egypt's AL-AHRAM
Rumsfeld's is not the only head that will roll, as the objective of Bush's Roman Empire is crumbling. An emperor, who used democracy as a slogan to seize oilfields, should not be allowed any consolation because of the chaos and violence he created everywhere.

Bush Defeat a "Triumph for Democracy"
The tables have turned on the Republicans with Tuesday's midterm election blow. German commentators hail the defeat as heralding the demise of a neo-conservative ideology that caused deep trans-Atlantic divisions. But Europe may now face US demands that they take on a bigger military role in crisis regions.

"End of a Six Year Nightmare"
Following the midterm slap in the face to the Bush Administration there has been little sympathy in Europe for the beleaguered White House. The day after the Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives, in much of Europe there is quiet satisfaction -- and relief.
Europe has been increasingly skeptical of US foreign policy under President George W. Bush. While France and Germany led the opposition to the invasion of Iraq in 2003, even former allies in Spain and Italy have since been swept from power by parties opposing the war. And British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who led his country into the Iraq war despite widespread public opposition, is now all but a lame- duck leader, expected to stand down in May next year at the very latest.

Commentary by Abd-al-Bari Atwan in London-based AL-QUDS AL-ARABI
Rumsfeld was just the scapegoat for a defeated administration and holding him responsible alone for this defeat implies an unusual naivety and even a great injustice and avoidance of accountability. He was a member of a whole team followed by an army of advisers and implementing a policy drawn up by a President who many agree is stupid and shortsighted.

World Sees Vote As Bush Rebuke
Reaction To Midterm Election In Europe, Asia, Mideast: Bush Deserved It
Strong Democratic gains in the U.S. elections were seen around the world as a potent rejection of the war in Iraq and the beginning of the end of Republican George W. Bush's presidency.
The Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives did not spark widespread fears of government paralysis in Washington, but some expected increasing pressure on Bush to alter course in Iraq and other policies.
The shift in power was also seen as a signal in some capitals that it was time to prepare for an eventual Democratic-led government, while others foresaw a greater emphasis on trade policy and human rights.
In Asia, across the Middle East and in Europe, the results were seen by many as a painful — and well-deserved — blow that left Bush significantly weakened for his remaining two years in office.

China and Japan, may not share much of the joy of having the Dems in control, as it will sway the overwhelming trade fiasco we've allowed to occur:
"In China, the resurgence of the Democrats raised fears of renewed U.S. concern over human rights and trade and labor issues. China's surging economy has a massive trade surplus with the United States.
"The Democratic Party ... will protect the interests of small and medium American enterprises and labor and that could produce an impact on China-U.S. trade relations," Zhang Guoqing of the state-run Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said in a report on Sina.com, one of China's most popular Internet portals.
The Japanese government said the results would not change Tokyo's warm ties with Washington.
But the shift in favor of the Democrats was expected to complicate Japan's diplomatic approach to the U.S. For years, the Japanese have been able to successfully woo Bush's White House, knowing that the Republican Congress would largely follow its lead."

And you quote CAIR's Chairman of the Board, Omar Ahmed's statement from 1998??? You couldn't find anything fresher? Yes he said it, but again it's old news and a non-story. Like Tony said, they make looney statements that are meaningless.
How about sharing the most stinging rebukes regarding CAIR from top Democrats? Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's second-leading Democrat, has said that CAIR "is unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its association with groups that are suspect." Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, has stated flatly that CAIR "has ties to terrorism." Sen. Schumer has special disdain for Awad and CAIR's other co-founder, Omar Ahmad, saying in a 2003 hearing that both men have "intimate connections with Hamas."
And though it's widely reported when Democrats take money from CAIR, it's conveniently overlooked when Republicans take money and also send letters of support to state groups.
For example, when Cynthia McKinney was lambasted in the press for receiving CAIR money, during th esame election cycle; conservative California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher received twice as much money than Cynthia McKinney did, and CAIR donated more money to former congressman and current Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham than to McKinney.
And when the Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) held its annual banquet at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, in May 28, 2005 --numerous high-ranking local and state government officials, including the Governor of Florida Jeb Bush, sent letters of support to CAIR.
Governor Bush's letter stated, "It is a great pleasure to extend greetings and best wishes to all attending the Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) annual banquet." The letter goes on to say, "I commend your contributions to the protection of civil rights and freedom of religion." And it concludes with, "Once again, congratulations on your accomplishments and my warmest greetings and best wishes on your continuing success."
Also sending a letter to CAIR was Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist. Crist's letter stated, "I extend best wishes for a wonderful event… Sincerely, Charlie Crist."
In addition, letters of support were sent from Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, FBI Special Agent Robert E. Haley, Florida State House Representative David Mealor, State Attorney Lawson Lamar, and Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles.
Now I'm sure there have been letters and support from Democrats also, see how easy it is to slant things one way. There are always two sides or opinions to most stories...just try to keep them balanced.
I stand chastened on the CAIR issue.
But...
"Why are other countries as happy as 60% of Americans with the outcome? Or maybe they'll have us bail out of a tough situation and then watch the whole region go to hell. Just turn it all over to those paragons of peace and justice -Syria and Iran.
No one can tell me that these are harmless countries who never ever hurt us.
We'll just see how things pan out...won't we?
but remember you can lead a mule to water but you can't make him think!

-"Did you also report how happy the Bin Laden family was when the Bush Administration secretly wisked them out of the country right after 911"
The members of the Bin Laden family that were escorted out of the country were diplomatic envoys, they were not involved in any of the actions by Bin Laden, his family has denounced his actions and disowned him long before 911 so why shouldn't they be protected or allowed to leave, Saudi Arabia is still our best ally in the area aside from Israel...
