Gather.Com Political Writers and Opinion Sharers,
I have a bone to pick with Gather.com Members in the Political Arena in the interest of being civil. That you have a political argument to make etc that fine and I may in fact sometimes even agree, but personal hyperbole/attack on the writers and other commenter makers at worst makes all of (What ever Political Bend you are) seem like mean unfeeling jerks, and at best is well below the intellectual level of most of us, even dare I say it YOU. The article writers for the most part are Americans here on Gather (but even the non-Americans are entitled to their opinions), as such they are entitled to their worries and commentary on the US electoral system, it is our right, for you to personally malign us/insult us is un-professional and as well as very un-cool, to me it brings what you (the insulter) have to say in future articles, down a notch or two, and if it is done enough then most people will not bother to read your thoughts/articles/ etc... At all.
I personally have grown tired of the negativity of BOTH parties and even of some of the "other" parties representation here at gather. Liberals / Conservatives / Democrats / Republicans / anti-Disestablishment-parliamentarians / Libertarians / Bolsheviks / Socialists and Dead poets and their anti-societal excrement need not be written in comment box's here on Gather.com, save it for the funny pages… Even my article picking on the democrat/liberals was a humor piece and other then "Clarke Kent" comment and that piece was not even a directed attack at Clarke it just began with a joke about him as (Supper Liberal Man) thus not a personal attack on his actual life etc…
(Clarke Kent may call me "Supper Moderate Conservative Man" if he likes, I feel it is an equal nickname, except I will not call myself "Clark Kent" or a similar Comic Book Hero name.)
Seriously, lets become more professional and make our posts more directed towards the topics, not personal attacks. We all have the brain power to make excellent arguments, on the facts, we don't need to attack or hurt or be snide towards the writers of articles we disagree with, we just need to discuss the facts.
"Crash(*&^Bang%$Slam#Dangit" = translates to the sounds of M. Emmett Townsend tripping as he tries to climb off the Political Soap Box he was lecturing from. Not to worry EMS is on the scene. Ooff, thanks for taking the time to listen.

(Yes you may take this article as an apology for the times in the past when I was unfeeling and unkind in my posts. I have been, not in the most recent past, but yes even here on Gather I have been un-professional at times in my comments and I am making an effort to rectify the situation.)

I think it is a good observation that when you fall off that particular horse and tell some guy he is a knothead, it is a good idea to get back on the horse right away, apologize, and try to stay civil. It is in the nature of internet communications that the lack of face to face contact heightens the temptation to be uncivil.
I am deeply offended by your attempt to use font and color with such style as to cause severe envy on my part. If this is your strategy to "shock and awe" me, then it in fact has had it's intended effect.
Oh yeah, by the way, I am impressed by your argument for civility. Cheers
i would note that there are some people who discuss and some people who are partisan and make rather scurrilous remarks. i hope that those who make such remarks at least confine them to other people who do the same, lol. there are ample volunteers for that.
so if a discusser replies to one of those people, then the discusser has volunteered.
i think that some of this is promoted by the media and some people honestly feel that liberals or conservatives are the enemy.
this site publishes articles that can be seen differently depending on your view. i like the fact that information is available and then people discuss it. our current events are confusing and complex. this is a place where events and viewpoints can be discussed. it does get hot and heavy at times. i think it would be counterproductive to try to prevent this.
that's how i see things.
i don't intend to moderate this group at the present time. i think that people already make this choice in their posts.
Your Rating: # that fits.
and i think the author should translate this piece into 4 languages before we can proceed.
Give me a few moments. I mean it.

Here's the deal, I've tried this, I've turned the other cheek so many times my head spun around, and guess what? I ain't turning the cheek any more. If some moron wants to play insult the idiot, I have no problem with that. I'll bring a gun to the knife fight every time. It's a great sentiment, and if not insulted, I will and have abided by it, but the reality is, this place is full of unarmed mental maulers, that don't realize they are short a few arrows in the quiver, and it has become almost fun to provide them with that which they think in their tiny minds, they want. Utopia would be nice, but what we've got is this wonderful reality.

I'm just going to do it till I need glasses.
Nice. On a thread in which you seemingly make a call for civility, you slander one of the forum members by name. Sorta makes your entire article a fraud, I'd say, which is a bit disgraceful. I'll remain civil, even through the baseless slander, however, because that's the kind of guy I am.
Thank you,
Emmett
I would love to be debated on the merits of my arguments. I would love to be called out on faulty logic, missed points and incorrect information. I would love to have someone cite a source that contradicts mine.
I get bored quickly with insults, off topic ruminations that have little to do with the discussion at hand, and pure hatred spewed without discernable rhyme or reason.
I hope some people are listening to you. Sadly, I have my doubts. But I give you two thumbs up for a saying something that needed to be said.
Personally, I'm too tired and too frustrated to say anything about it anymore.
"agree to disagree"...we are still friends and we stay civil..civility is something we all need to learn more about!
I appreciate that.
I'm curious. Now that the GOP no longer has any values or principles to stand upon, how were you able to convince anyone to the dark side? They used to stand for some very lofty ideals, but when the neocons and the religious right took over the party, they just tossed out everything that they'd ever stood for, including moral values now.
I can see how some were duped during the 80's and 90's, when the rightwing media did a marvelous job of framing issues and basically hiding what the GOP was up to, but seriously, what verneer is left at this point? It's pretty obvious to most by now that the party is morally and ethically bankrupt, and no longer stands for anything except unbridled power at all costs.
That, along with the fact that the American public side rather convincingly with democrats on every issue of the day would seem to make the GOP a rather difficult sell for anyone these days.
