I have had this beautiful Aloe plant for 5 years now. It's a very simple plant to take care of and it flourishes. Until now. I had noticed that one or two of the stalks dropped off at the base a week ago. So I worked the dirt up a little around the rest and it looked fine. Well, today everyone of the stalks dropped off the base of the plant like peels off of a banana. I thought maybe the base or root had rotted, but it doesn't look rotted. I didn't see any kind of bugs either or anything unusual about it. And the cat didn't get to it. It was up away from Punk.
I have never had this happen. I worked up the potting soil, added fresh and replanted the roots. I am so sad over this! It was the best looking plant I have ever had.
Does anyone know what could have happened to it?

Thanks everyone for your comments. M C, I will write your directions down and try again with what is left. Or maybe I should throw out the roots too. Incase they're diseased.
Did it get to much water, air pocket in soil. Did it get in a draft?
If in a clay pot, the clay needs water too.... hope you used the aloe leaves?
As some know I grow, propagate aloe for our own use. If you can not find any in your area I have plenty of rooted "babies" if you want one.
I saved all of the aloe, Mrs R. They were fresh and green. that's what confused me when they fell off.
thanks
