Its what should have been done but Washington is to busy playing corporate crony to support the public good.

The one question we always have about hiring or doing something ourselves.... is it worth it to pay someone to do it for you? That question is getting harder and harder to say yes to.

This was my first thought when the meltdown began. I grew up in areas that still had WPA plaques in place. It was a great idea that did wonders for the country and the people who needed to work. WPA created infrastructure that is still in place...unfortunately that infrastructure is disintegrating now after 80 years. DUH!!! Put people to work doing something for the country, not the corporations!

No where in that article did it explain what a WPA is. Guess it's a mystery!

You have to be old like I am with old parents that lived through the depression. The WPA (Works Projects Administration) was a government sponsored program that hired people to build infrastructure, from National Parks, to bridges, to highways. There were a few TV movies about life in these, but they basically put people to constructive work and paid them during the depression.
