ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST:...

As a long-time Arizonan, I am proud to be the one to tell fellow Gatherites that Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.) has decided not to run for re-election in '08. Good riddance. Though the district also supported Pres. Bush last year, it is a swing district, and very diverse district geographically-stretched. A Democrat can carry it. If we do (and if everything else remains the same), it will mean the first time that AZ's House delegation is majority-Democrat since I was a toddler*!!!

* OK, 1966, but I'm still not telling you how old of a toddler I was then!

I grew up in Phoenix from 1959 to 1975 and returned for 4 and a half years between 1985 and 1989. That was during the Evan Macham debacle. Arizona politics has always been bizarre to me. I had remembered Mecham (who was a Pontiac dealer) running along with that Jack Ross Cadillac dealer for governor as far back as the late sixties. We always considered their candidacies a joke. It freaked me out when the people of Arizona actually elected him governor. Man, what a mistake that was.
