This is a really great article that points out the flaming, shameless hypocrisy of the "Gingrich revolution" crowd, and reminds us all of why they won't be missed. They've shattered and destroyed the republican party, destroyed political discourse in the country, set a new bar for levels of corruption in government, and did a great deal of damage to what has made America a great country, all because of their insane obsession with all-encompassing, unbridled control of power.
I think that this article hits a home run in a lot of regards, and is well worth a read for all.
an excerpt:
"The iconic figures of this era were Newt Gingrich, Richard Armey and Tom Delay. They were zealous advocates of free markets, low taxes and the pursuit of wealth; they were hawks and often bellicose; they were brutal critics of big government.
Yet none of these guys had success in capitalism. None made any real money before coming to Congress. None of them spent a day in uniform. And they all spent the bulk of their adult careers getting paychecks from the big government they claimed to despise. Two resigned in disgrace."

If there are any other attribute's of Lott's I have missed feel free to enlighten me.
Clark, what scares me is mainstream America is still being fooled by men like this. Take our President for example (please, TAKE him). I can't wait for the investigations to begin into the awarding of "rebuilding" contracts to repair stuff we blew up!
No, I haven't, but it wouldn't surprise me. Surely, republicans can't ALWAYS be the hypocrites.
"Why is it that democrats like clark hate the truth and always try to change history for their own advantage."
1. I'm not a democrat.
2. I'm literally obsessed with the truth.
3. I'm not the history revisionist. That is being deftly handled by the neocons, as they twist, spin, contort, lie, and diffuse reality in order to provide themselves cover for their abysmal failures and utter collapse.
You are most certainly welcome to produce documentation to refute the factual comments within this article. The article itself is undoubtedly opinion, but it is based upon factual information. If you feel it is not, knock yourself out. To fail to do so, while accusing me of twisting facts is nothing short of sad and immoral, in my opinion.
I would note that Dick Armey opposed the invasion of Iraq. I would also note that so far as I can recall only one of those pushing the "Contract with America" followed through and did not run for re-election... and he came back to Washington two years later as a senator.
The article is right about one thing. They were all wierd. I say this as a C-Span junkie who watches what goes on the House and Senate. They rarely followed protocol and their leaders rarely enforced the rules.
These guys screw up too, unfortunately, and thus the voter, the citizen, must prevail and be the conscience and authority.
I love America.

It's the corruption, stupid.
thanks for bringing this article to light. It seems that transparency in government has been a missing ingredient for a long time. The latest GOP crop has cultivated a culture of privilege with the ultimate privilege being not having to demonstrate your own accountability. This was ultimately a self-defeating strategy, but the time it took to play out damaged the whole country severely.
In this country, no government employee should ever be elevated to a status beyond accountability. This especially applies to elected officials. It doesn't matter how much money they have, who their friends are, or who their Daddy is. Special circumstances, like 9/11, can never justify this kind of corruption either.
Thanks for posting this one. I admit I am still not stubborn enough to be blinded my my own opinions. (Yet) lol
I enjoy reading others opinions when I do & even when I do not agree.
One this article I do agree:
"Yet none of these guys had success in capitalism. None made any real money before coming to Congress. None of them spent a day in uniform. And they all spent the bulk of their adult careers getting paychecks from the big government they claimed to despise. Two resigned in disgrace."

", ", and ".
I don't mind your articles sometimes, Clark, and even not really your comments, it's the claim to be a balanced s(p)eeker of truth and still spew this that only makes it a lie. Don't try to play both sides of the coin.

Voted 'up' with a (10), because 'why not?'
Clark Kent was one of those laboring well in advance towards the success of '11/7'.
Remember everything changed on 11/7 ...

Reference Dick Meyer's article:
Good Riddance To The Gingrichites
Surely you folks must continue to wonder why your ratings are so low? Why you are held in such low esteem by so MANY in America? WHY so many Americans BELIEVE there is HARD bias in today's media? Perhaps Mr. Meyer is a "contributing" editor?
While I, unhappily, do not deny SOME of what Mr. Meyer says (the most obvious of several GLARING exceptions being: "...the media didn't call a duck a duck, because that's not something we're supposed to do..." Really, Mr. Meyer? REALLY? Which journalism school was it you attended? And you learned...what?) in his article, he has left me with a "wholly inadequate" taste in my mouth.
Essentially the same could (and can, and should) be said of so many Democrats in Congress, yet it never is. The real issue, you see, is that if we expose and then flush only half the turds away, the other half remains to continue the pollution...
The point? How are we to know (assuming we take our lead from Mr. Meyer, "Superman" here, and their ilk) which turds are left unflushed, if they only identify the turds THEY doesn't approve of?
If Mr. Meyer thinks an apology is appropriate, he might consider apologizing to those of us who took the time to read this "profound summary"...for not telling "The Rest Of The Story".
A story you should have written 12 years ago, Mr. Meyer? I suggest you didn't do so then because you, sir, are a HARD biased cowardly lion, who only lately (now that the immaculate Democrats have re-ascended the Yellow Brick Road) has found the Wizard's promised courage.
Give us the WHOLE truth, Mr. Meyer, or consider giving your organization a break...yer' killin' the hand that feeds ya, boy!

That's completely untrue. You seem to be forgetting the reason for the "republican revolution" of 1994, and also seem to have forgotten how the "liberal media" railed against and villified a democratic president for 8 full years, with every hint of scandal brought forth by the rigthwing echo machine, even when there was absolutely nothing to report.
"which turds are left unflushed, if they only identify the turds THEY doesn't approve of?"
Nobody is advocating keeping "their" turds floating here.
The "whole truth" is that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Same as always.
