I had just started my morning with coffee in hand, and going to CNN news to see how things were going in HI - as I have friends over there, happen to go past FOX news and I think I heard the tonight Mr. O'Reily would be interviewing President Bush...almost chocked on that...went quickly back to make sure that's what I heard...but alas, no more was said..
I couldn't help but think to myself, one of the he most respected interviewer on TV Mr. Wallace, who has interviewed every President in office - but Mr. Bush...who refuses (even when he was running for Gov) to allow the meeting or interview with President Bush, it was said in Mr. Wallace's recent book about the many important people in history he has had the privilge to interview, that Mr. Rowe when approached to set up interview with Bush, told Mr. Wallace it would never happen...
but if I did hear the reporting right...our infamous leader is allowing AN INTERVIEW WITH ONE OF THE MOST IRRATIONAL, AGGRESSIVE, INSULTING media interviewers on TV....!!!!
There is some real desperation here and just goes to show - birds of a feather stick together....this administration has the ego of a dinosaur!!!

On the other hand where else WOULD he give an interview!?!
will o'reilly pitch softballs to bush? i've seen him go soft on people.
and the gop is in real election trouble. i see this as desparation to pull it out. and overestimation bush's debating skills.
i'll watch. i wanna see what o'reilly does with bush.
i don't usually watch fox.
I have not read his books - but then why would I when I cannot respect his way of getting to the point of a problem? He dose a lot of "assuming" in his directed comments to a subject, and we all know what happens when we "assume"......
and Joe, I have to agree with you, on why CNN would even announce this event!
a cheap knock off of"A Current Affair'?
Before that he wrote bad porn!
I can't take anything he says SERIOUSLY!
Carla... lmao!!!
BO - "Mr. President....why won't you agree to a face to face meeting with North Korea's Kim Jong-il?"
W - "Well, Bill, I just don't trust that guy. He lies and exaggerates and has absolutely no consideration for his impoverished citizens. He is not qualified to be a world leader and the only reason he rose to leadership is the fact that he has the same name as his father who led that nation before him.....and futhermore........."
Interview abruptly ends as Karl Rove pulls the plug.
i thought the woodward interview was much better. it pointed out that bush didn't talk about the strategy. bush gave a "stay the course" kind of answer. i don't know what that means. but didn't give a strategy. sounds like bush thinks time will help. maybe. but since they can't talk about the past, that leaves unanswered questions.
I do not understand why liberals are threatened by Fox. We have close to 300 million people in this county and FOX has only 3 million viewers. According to progressives, the only people that listen to FOX are hard core Republican conservatives. If this is the case, why do liberals feel threatened?
Ron,
FOX has found their niche. CNN is all over the place. CNN has yet to figure out who they are. Until CNN figures out their market strategy they will continue to lose viewers.
Glad to hear you keep obsenity out of your house but I'm going to need your deffinition of obsenity to clearly understand what that word means to you if you are going to call Fox News obscene.
Also for the record A Current Affair debut in 1986. Inside eddition in 1988. which begs the question who knocked off whom? Of course "cheap" is another debate.
Don't look now but Fox's ratings have been spiraling down the toilet for months, while every other cable "news" network's ratings have been rising, including CNN's.
Anyone who wonders why liberals and independent thinkers are concerned about Fox "news" needs to watch the documentary "Outfoxed," in order to see how they not only affect their own viewers, but have also impacted information broadcast on other networks as well. They played a rather significant role in selecting the president in 2000 as well.
I highly doubt that. Please provide evidence.
In answer to my own question. Maybe its because Fox News is actually fair and balanced. While people only see the rebublicans in Sean Hannity, John Gibson, Brit Hume, and Neil Cavuto, there are also democrats on the channel. Alan Colmes, Greta Van Susteran, Juan Willams, and Geraldo Rivera. And then there is also that famous Bill O'Reilly who is an independent. That looks pretty balanced to me.
I think the reason why so many people take shots at Fox News is that fact that Secular Progressives in this country want to destroy the cable news network. However, it continues to be a dominating success due to the fact that the majority of the people in this country are traditonalists and watch Fox News because it encourages traditionalist values.
Fox News Channel
Launched in 1996, Fox News has in recent years consistently earned higher viewer ratings than the other cable news networks. It is owned by News Corp., which also owns Fox Broadcasting Co. The media empire of News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch also includes the conservative New York Post and The Weekly Standard. Roger Ailes, the chairman, CEO, and president of Fox News Channel, is a former aide to President Nixon, a consultant to President Reagan, and worked for George H. W. Bush's 1988 presidential campaign.
Fox News' programming features numerous on-air personalities who have furthered conservative misinformation, including Bill O'Reilly on The O'Reilly Factor, who labels himself "a traditionalist"; Sean Hannity, who with Alan Colmes co-hosts Hannity & Colmes; and Brit Hume, host of Special Report, which is largely presented as straight news, though Hume injects his conservative perspective into much of the program's coverage. As a July 2004 Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting study has documented, Special Report regularly features one-on-one interviews with subjects who are conservative far more often than liberal or moderate. The show also includes a discussion panel that often repeats Republican talking points. The morning program Fox & Friends features three hosts with conservative perspectives. Carl Cameron, the network's chief White House correspondent, and congressional correspondent Brian Wilson have both often presented ostensibly straight news programming with a slant that favors conservatives. Fox's other daytime programs (The Big Story with John Gibson, Fox News Live, and Your World with Neil Cavuto) and its marquee weekend news show (Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, which also airs on Fox Broadcasting Co. affiliates) also are presented as objective news sources, yet Media Matters for America has compiled substantial research indicating the network's coverage most often favors the conservative viewpoint and often blatantly misinforms viewers.
Fox's featured programs (Fox & Friends, The O'Reilly Factor, and Hannity & Colmes) often advance misinformation that furthers the conservative position on an entire slate of issues. Besides the network's self-identified conservatives, Fox's "straight news" anchors and reporters continually amplify misinformation that favors the conservative viewpoint and on occasion have even admitted their own conservative perspective.

As per http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/22/news/newsmakers/outfoxed/
This documentary is financed by Moveon.org and the Center for American Progress, a think tank headed by John Podesta, former chief of staff in the Clinton administration. Clark,
With backers like this, how accurate of a documentary do you really think this is? I would find a different reference. But then again, who cares, only conservatives listen to FOX. Conversely, only liberals listen to Air America.

"Fox News Ratings Continue Slide
Reported by Judy - September 26, 2006 - 48 comments
Fewer Americans are watching cable news than a year ago, and Fox News is suffering the biggest desertions, according to figures posted Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2006) today on mediabistro.com
The numbers published by mediabistro show a 27 percent drop in Fox News' total viewership during the day and 35 percent during prime time during the third quarter of this year compared with the third quarter a year ago. The 2005 numbers probably were inflated by public interest in Hurricane Katrina.
Fox News, however, lost more viewers than did other cable networks. The next closest were CNN, down 21 percent during the day and Headline News, down 28 percent, during primetime.
mediabistro also reported that Fox News' advantage over CNN in the key age 25-54 demographic group also has shrunk, based on graphs supplied by CNN."
Got to protect their most valuable promotional tool, after all.
You want proof that Fox News is slipping in ratings...as they have been for 8 mths. straight, there are several available sources. Here is one with a breakdown by age, time of day, network and percentage gained or lost by the three networks (Fox, MSNBC, and CNN).
The link follows this short article: http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/index.php?cat=6
The Fox Meltdown Accelerates
"Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes was on the warpath back in June because of his networks poor performance. Says Ailes:
"Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don't will not. And that includes talent."
Seems like an empty threat in as much as there is no talent at Fox. Be that as it may, Ailes must be firing up the nukes right about now. The August ratings (PDF) are out and, of the top 3 cable news networks, Fox alone has lost viewers. And not just an incremental loss, they are cratering.
What's worse is that in at least eight consecutive months of year-to-year comparisons, Fox has shown declines and, again, is the only network to have accomplished that feat. The standout contributors to this debacle in August are Greta Van Susteran (-31%), Hannity & Colmes (-21%), and our boy O'Reilly (-15%). For those of you keeping score, Olberman's Countdown increased 55% over it's year ago number. So far this year, Olberman's comparisons have been positive every month while O'Reilly's have been negative.
As I've pointed out in previous analyses, we need to view these figures in context. Fox is still the runaway leader in cable news, but trends are not insignificant. And as CNN's special on bin Laden last week demonstrated, there is an audience for quality news programming. That's got to be bad news for Fox. "
For a complete PDF printout of rating for all categories, ages, shows, and the three networks, go to this link. It compares August 2005 to August 2006....there's your proof!

***********************************************************
And not only is MSNBC gaining in viewership in the highly desirable 24 to 50 age group (versus Fox's O'Reilly show with major viewership of ages group 65 and older); they are leading in online video streaming viewership. Here is the most recent link for September:
MSNBC.COM DELIVERS A RECORD-BREAKING 88 MILLION ONLINE VIDEO STREAMS IN SEPTEMBER
http://nbcumv.com/release_detail.nbc/news-20061016000000-msnbc46comdelive.html
From Mediabistro: Cable news ratings soared yesterday afternoon when news of the NYC plane crash broke. Between 3 and 6pm, Fox News averaged 509,000 demo viewers and 1,669,000 total viewers, topping CNN's 407,000 demo and 1,306,000 viewers. MSNBC averaged 197,000 demo and 463,000 viewers, HLN averaged 152,000 demo and 525,000 viewers, and CNBC averaged 68,000 demo and 235,000 viewers...
Also from Mediabistro: Ratings: 25-54 Demo Trends, Part Two
Here's another way to look at the 25-54 demographic trends: The two PDF charts below show the last six months of demo ratings for Monday through Sunday, seven days a week, rather than only weekdays. The numbers demonstrate how CNN is "closing the gap" with FNC -- but that's because FNC's ratings have declined, not because CNN's numbers are rocketing skyward. Of course, it's important to note that ratings for all the cable nets have declined compared to the November 2004 election.
Program Q1 Q2 % Q1 Q2 %
On The Record 334 306 -8% 1,397 1,330 -4%
Hannity & Colmes 359 332 -7% 1,536 1,485 -3%
The O'Reilly Factor 446 394 -11% 2,274 2,077 -8%
Fox Report 350 282 -19% 1,491 1,225 -17%
Special Report 312 235 -24% 1,485 1,190 -19%
Big Story 213 180 -15% 1,037 895 -13%
Your World 220 187 -15% 905 794 -15%
Studio B 227 205 -9% 948 861 -9%
DaySide 223 205 -8% 813 728 -10%
Fox News Live 224 208 -7% 870 792 -8%
Fox & Friends 330 308 -6% 904 842 -6%
According to this site, it is true that fox news ratings are going down. So, regarding that I was wrong. However, it does say that cnn ratings remained the same and have not risen. According to that figure, I was right. Also note that there are certain stories that boasts fox news ratings (ex. the first source I gave you) from time to time. Also take into the account that elections are coming up and during this time tv news ratings tend to decline.
This is an interesting site, but please not that its just online video streams. So that does not include actual tv ratings right?

Regarding this site:

Come on Saint Joan! Do you honestly get news from blog sites where anybody could type anything. I'm not going to just believe a blog. You don't even know who's writing this stuff. Wise up.
Sorry Jackie I could not find this site, but I did try.

"Fox is still the runaway leader in cable news, but trends are not insignificant."
This is exactly my point and I agree. Fox News continues to dominant and yet a lot of people keep attempting to tear it down.
If you honestly believe that fox news cateres to one party then you have got to believe that the mainstream media also caters to one party since the mainstream media is 90% liberal and this shows in their reporting. I'm not making this figure up. It was done by a UCLA study.
Oh, you mean like this one you cited:
"The link follows this short article: http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/index.php?cat=6
"Fox is still the runaway leader in cable news, but trends are not insignificant."
The comment I posted referenced the study, accurately, from mediabistro.
The figures you cite are for ONE DAY Ron, not for EIGHT MONTHS.

Families of Troops in Bread Lines This article breaks my heart:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20061013/news_7m13bread.html
Many military families rely on donated goods
If they are going to celebrate their 10 year anniversary - they might as well do it with a really important story....of course those conservatives and Republicans may move over to CNN !!!
Please don't try to politisize this article.
but of course it is all FOX's fault, or maybe Bush's, I am sure we can pass some blame to him too...Cheney and Rumsy will ahve to be included as well....maybe Rice, she is overseas right now but may as well throw her in too...I heard Rove was......
*yawn*
I am sorry you seem to feel there is an insult to intelligence here...because if so - I am not alone!
So let me get this straight......Because Fox News did not report this story, then its ok to slam them? This is the first time I heard this story. So, according to your standards, wouldn't be fair to slam all the other media outlets that did not report on this too?
I still don't understand why you got to use this article to slam Fox News. This article has NOTHING TO DO WITH FOX NEWS!
Donna, I won't pretend to know your politics, but to slam FOX for a story that none of the major news outlets ran shows a slanted bias. I understand that many on the left scram that FOX is a right wing mouthpiece, but compared to its competition anything would appear to be so.
I am glad you see that there is enough blame to go around...my grievance with the extreme left is that they are attempting to focus the blame strictly on Bush, or anyone they feel is associated with him. By the votes in congress for the war, which the majority of Dems supported, and the beliefs they all stated pre-2003, they were all WRONG. I will be the first to agree that the intelligence was blatantly wrong by all evidence we have found since the Iraq war, but to say one side of the political spectrum is to blame and for the other to claim to have the 'high moral ground' is simply disingenuous....
OK - here goes:
Fox news would say that they are not biased in their reporting and interviewing…Well I differ and disagree. They can report what ever they like…I honestly don't give a pigs tail, and I am NOT slamming them.
I just thought this was disgusting, disheartening situation, and someone needed to report it on National Television…like maybe Fox News (being that was the TV station we have been discussing in this thread)
I believe my suggestion was: WOULD ONE OF YOU SEE IF YOU CAN GET THIS STORY TO THEM AND LETS SEE HOW "THEY" PRESENT IT:
Families of Troops in Bread Lines
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20061013/news_7m13bread.html
Many military families rely on donated goods
That just maybe, JUST MAYBE there was an opportunity for FOX News to report this tragic incident that would make this administration and President Bush sit up and take notice - as I am sure he listens and supports FOX News, and only reads the papers that have positive articles to say about him and his administration…so he would not have heard about the article…
.....you guys kind of missed the whole point…!
My apologies if I have offended anyone - including Fox News.
