I have several friends that are adamant about not having kids. They say that having animals is much better. I think I know why dogs and cats are better than kids.
1. They eat less.
2. They don't ask for money, and
3. If they get pregnant, you can sell their kids.

Though come to think of it, the wait staff at my local pub lined up to watch my kid down his second 1 lb Guido Burger.. No one had ever ordered a second one before.

Oh, and I thought of another one... you don't have to worry about emotionally scarring your dog so much that he will turn out to be a serial killer someday... the ramifications of raising a "bad" dog are much less, than raising a "bad" boy!
Also, how many dogs do you know that take to potty training? Most of them do their "business" in the backyard, sidewalk, someone else's lawn or wherever. (How disgusting. Just how is that better?)
And, are they not totally dependent for life? At least kids tend to become self-sufficient eventually.
