Part of His Plan

May 17, 2008 11:17 PM EDT

It took me a while to catch on when I first came to Gather.  :)  I only posted this poem to 1 group so I'm posting it a 2nd time. I hope that's acceptable.  I might look at a couple more early ones also.

On a fall afternoon I was walking in my daughter's yard when a warped, brown leaf landed on my sweater. My mind wandered. In all this huge universe, how did I and this particular leaf come together?

              Part of His Plan

A soft brown leaf blew by me today

A tiny life lived, now ebbing away

It didn't start here; in the place that I see

Its story began in Eden with me.

The God of all Matter and Motion and Time

Had just spoken forth a Creation sublime

In Adam God breathed life into me

We awoke to the vision of a great green tree

And all through the ages God brought forth His plan

From Adam and Eve, generations of man

Animals, plants & Trees all combined

To fill up the earth, each after it's kind

Before creation, God planned this day

And the soft brown leaf that blew my way

He planned, on this day, to call out to me

So He planted a stripling, a small green tree

The tree's first summer was dry and hot

Which stunted one limb in a certain spot

That was the spot allotted the leaf

That struggled through birth with joy and grief

As Spring wore on it gave life to a worm.

A butterfly hatched that carried forth germ

to a waiting flower that grew up to be

A bouquet from a he to a beautiful she

The little warped leaf, with it's worm hole too

Waved in the air as all leaves do

It waved through its life to the great fall wind

And as God planned, life came to an end

As it drifted down from it's lofty home

To mix with the grass in an earthy loam

It entered my vision and mind that day

I thought about God and began to pray

                                  glome   Yr 2001

What a cute idea! I didn't even think about that. Besides, I don't have any worm holes. It was a story within a story ... like in Hamlet. I only follow the best :)
It really is 2 stories ... the leaf only an allegory. Pecking at my head again.

I love it Janet. Thank you. You must carry your muse in your pocket ... you're always on ready. I have to hit the right combination of thought and experience ... or something; I have no idea what starts something for me :) I take that back. When I am pondering some truth ... watching how it works in my mind; that's when I usually start writing.

Life is overwhelming right now. My Mom is all consuming right now and I am her only caregiver plus other things.

It's not bad ... it will pass, but it splatters my mind and I'm not creative at all.
It is nice to be missed :)

William, I didn't know that. What a huge thing to have intruded into your life. No matter how much we trust the Lord, I would think that is would be pretty scary to all of a sudden see our body doing something that we had no control over.

I've been very uninspired and under pressures the last couple of months & haven't followed most of my friends or published. I'm coming over to your site to see what you've posted regarding your stroke.

Thanks for coming by and commenting. I'll be over in the morning.

Wow Marlive! Great comment. I've been collecting all verses on predestination and free will. God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts so we'll never get it down till we see Him. However, one thing I am sure of; it isn't 'either/or' ... it's both. Both truths are taught ... and somehow work together perfectly :):)

Your verse excellently uses the falling leaf as a metaphor for life and faith. This poem has a nice flow.
'Before creation, God planned this day.' (I think this verse is the thread that runs through your poem).

Thanks for realizing that William. That the story of the leaf told as much about God IN our lives as the actual using of that leaf in my life. Even our weaknesses and tears. You would know about tears :):) I'm sure you are much changed.
I mentioned this to someone before ... a couple of months ago I was talking to my daughter that had been hit by a car at 13. She had some brain damage & we went through a couple of tough years but now, 35 years later, we would not change what happened. God was there ... using all things together for good. Every tear has it's part to play. Warps and worm holes play an important part in His plan. :)

as we wander through life, it is important to wonder about the awe-inspiring moments.

And, from a simple leaf - brown - ready to be rejoined with the earth - comes the beauty of the wonder ~ as we wander ~kudos Glome ~j

Thanks ms Jean J ... Your articles are fun to read. Thanks for coming by.
I haven't posted for a while. I'll have to switch to something besides poetry.

That was very sweet Janet. I can't think of a more worthwhile goal ... to touch someone's soul for the Lord.

Thanks Haim ... I kind of lost the abiility to write and so avoided the places I'd been going to. Just floating around reading the last couple of months. I'm beginning to go by to my old haunts and have begun to see you once again. Thank you for coming by.
