We've had a strange spring in Bishop, CA where I live. In late February we had a 10 day warm spell when our trees leafed out and our fruit trees budded for fruit. Sadly, all those buds froze when winter slipped back into the valley. Our trees were beautiful with snow for a few days and I took this photo, straight up into our Sweet Gum tree by the front door. Later, when the snow melted, all the trees on our street looked dead until about 3 weeks ago when they leafed out again.
The Sweet Gum is a beautiful tree that grows narrow and tall and has leaves something like a maple but smaller. I've used the snow tree photo as my icon all spring as I looked out at dead trees in my front yard. Today I asked my partner to take a photo of the Sweet Gum with it's new crop of spring green leaves, its second crop this year. I just wanted to share this happy sight because I thought they might really be dead. Mother Nature doesn't make it easy for trees. This will be my icon all spring.
This is a picture of the volunteer climbing and rambling plants from the other side of the fence, hanging over our little front patio. I love the little yellow flowers on what appears as a thornless wild rose bush, the blooms are not roses though.
Welcome spring. It's still only 69 degrees this morning. How is spring where you live?
