A Promise to You Answered by a Haiku
I promise you dear
When I get old
If I ever do
(I don't think I will ~ do you?)
You'll never catch me rambling
On and on and on and on
Ignoring your yawn
Not seeing your sighs
And glazed over eyes
Repeating the stories
You've heard upteen times
But if I do
Please stop me, love
Remind me of
This promise
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Hear my story now
I've little time to tell it
Each breath is precious

True love never hinders, this promise shall never be broken
but someday, one day,
do try your best not to yawn...
when it be my precious words repeated and spoken
Remember... You are caring for Gods most favored creation.
altho we all have a very brief time on this planet, i worry (sense?) that the ending haiku has an element in it of greater knowledge than the life of human beings. i hope you are well and that your mother-in-law is doing as well as possible too. i hope that you continue to write - create - long into the future.
You've captured both ages so well. I love that line "(I don't think I will - do you?)."
