I've been away too long. I hope anyone who followed immigrantdiaries.gather.com will forgive me...
Rafaela is back in Chiapas. We never did get her baby a U.S. birth certificate.
90,000 U.S. citizen children are now living in the home countries of their parents; primarily Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. They are considered illegal aliens, ineligible for social assistance, many are not attending school and some are suffering PTSD, depression, and from a lack of healthcare. Congratulations to those who waited 15 years to get angry about illegal immigration.
I hope this is what you had in mind.
This year we saw more families than ever. Now I have a serious food scarcity crisis during a time when we are all trying to make ends meet. I'll be setting up a paypal account and a website soon for donations. Don't worry, it's a nonprofit and you're reading the Executive Director, in disguise of course. Keep in mind, a few dollars will add fruit to a diet of beans and tortillas for many kids. Even a dollar will make a huge difference. Besides...thought ya'll might want to know before I start begging. Heads up!
Ready to hear more about where I've been? I uploaded some photographs that are ours to use, courtesy of a brilliant volunteer professional photographer. Aren't they cool?
Questions about agriculture and why we have 12 year olds picking our crops? Wonder why it is that farmworkers harvest what we eat then suffer food scarcity?
You are at the right place. Please feel free to ask.
Thanks everyone,
JB

The bottom line is the larger ramifications of 'anchor babies.'
Since when does U.S. Citizenship not count? Your opinion is one thing - but we have a federal law that states these kids are citizens of this country.
We can't have it both ways. We can't deny the kids and be p.o.'d about the fact that the parents broke the law to get here, now can we?
You wouldn't intentionally dehumanize a child. You wouldn't allow anyone dehumanize your child for something he or she could not control.
We aren't in the business of bias in this nation. I think we've proven that - don't you?
Thanks,
JB
biased against those who break and/or disrespect our laws (and therefore us). Dorine is correct. Illegal aliens who come puposely to have anchor babies, are disrespecting our 14th amendment which was not intended for them to jump ship from Mexico (or wherever), and then parasite upon our economy ($45 Billion/year), and our state and local treasuries.
To use the 14th amendment, intended to insure rights to recently freed slaves in the Reconstruction period (1860's/1870s+), now, for one's own personal gain, and for the gain of a filthy, rich class of GREED freaks in Mexico (Carlos Slim Helu & co.), is despicable, and
actually constitutes an invasion of the United States for which Mexico, right now, should be made to answer for, big time.
Having said that, my opinion is that you could shed some fear by praying. The scriptures hold the cure for what ails you.
Until then, you need to prepare yourself. Heads up - the next influx is hmong.
Thanks,
JB
I suspect that's why so many people who are drawn to nationalist and racial bigotry often put so much energy into pointing out who they blame for their unhappiness, and why. They need to feel victimized. That way, their fear and misery and hatred is all somebody else's fault. Anybody else's fault. They'll even claim that they're being victimized by children and babies.
I'm not concerned about any majorities "on earth" that share my perspective. I am concerned about a majority of Americans who share it. In that respect, you may not be sure if they do. I am sure that they do, and I suspect under Obama's leadership, things will get better. Illegal aliens will continue to return home (self-deport), as document fraud will be eradicated, and enforcement of IRCA will expand greatly, with illegal employers finally taken to task.
Also, I'm not wondering about the word "alien" at all. I'll go with the Wiktionary definition : "a foreigner residing in a country".
I will concede that I am unhappy about a number of things in this country, since there has been so much dereliction of duty by government "representitives" from the President on down. Hopefully, the current economic crisis is waking many of them up to the fact that we cannot allow our economy to be drained by foreign parasite/pillagers. Outsourcing must be stopped (both international and domestic versions). If it doesn't, and we keep
losing jobs to cheap foreign labor, and American business continues to suffer from the lack of disposaeable income, then we ALL will be unhappy here.
Were you referring to any "racial bigotry", in particular, Wil ? If so, which ? From whom ?
How ?
No, Robert F. Protectionist, I was referring to racial bigotry in general. And also nationalist bigotry in general.
That's good Wil. I join you in opposing racial bigotry, as do most people, I suspect.
As for nationalist bigotry, I'm not quite sure I understand how you mean that.
Let's try to achieve communication and understanding. Wiktionary defines bigot as :
"one who is srongly partial to one's own group religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ". Perhaps the answer lies in the degree of the word "intolerant". A little
tolerance isn't a problem. Too much tolerance may well be (this is true of most anything).
Too much tolerance of foreign cultures (language, music, customs, etc) brings about the erosion and, eventually, eradication of the primary culture. So, to avoid this highly undesirable scenario, some degree of nationalist bigotry is a good thing, as a protective
mechanism. No problem. We all need to be more nationalistic when our nation is under attack.
My opinion (as a former Geography and Economics teacher) is that you could gain some enlightenment by mosying down to your local university and enrolling in a Geography course. Pay special attention to the chapters on Population and Resource mangement.
Jackie, just how many of the ten commandments listed below have illegal immgrants violated?
ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'
THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'
FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'
FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'
SIX: 'You shall not murder.'
SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'
EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'
NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'
TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
hated the micks,
despised the kikes,
ignored the pollacks,
hung the niggers,
were disgusted by the slavs,
feared the chinks
and thought that the japs were all evil...we were so enlightened.
We need control with compassion...not a return to the past.
As has been pointed out, above, and correctly, those who choose to assimilate and therefore CONTRIBUTE to Our Society are welcome. Those who will NOT assimilate (that includes those who choose to break our Laws) are injurious to our Culture, and Our Nation. They are NOT welcome. Nationalism IS A BEAUTIFUL THING!
Robert, though I agree with you on the issue of Immigration, I find it astonishing that you are so confused. Obama will swing the "Doors" WIDE OPEN, and this problem will become exponentially WORSE. Those 47Million that he's promised "health-care?" 20M of them ARE ILLEGALS!!! Wake up.
I have an immense compassion for Children; so should those fools who have put them in their present straits of dire. You should be ashamed of those "adults." I'm sure you also have an intense Compassion for Children on another issue as well; homosexual "marriage."
Call me an eternal optimist but I'm hoping (with some pressure from us) that he'll keep his promises. From his campaign website :
1. "Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally
Obama and Biden will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants."
2. "Crack Down on Employers: Obama championed a proposal to create a system so employers can verify that their employees are legally eligible to work in the U.S. "
IF Obama keeps these promises, self-deportation will increase dramatically. 20 million illegals won't be here to collect anything from the US government. We need to speak up. Loud and often.
And, though No.'s 1 and 2 are the SAME, I will join you in being LOUD, and being OFTEN.
Racial bigots often make similar arguments. They're all about racial purity and superiority. You're about national/cultural purity and superiority. I don't think either kind of bigotry is a good thing.
You got part of it right. Yeah, I support national/cultural purity (without which you don't have a "nation" at all), but I don't see it as superiority at all. Cultures are too different to be compared as superior or inferior to one another, generally. They're like apples and oranges. There are many cultures who have better things than the USA (ex. England - the English language, Canada - population control, France - art, Mexico - cooking, Japan - auto
manufacturing, Denmark - furniture and pastries, etc.).
"The incongruency of your positions and statements allow me no choice."
What do you find incongruent ?
