While the government pushes through an amendment that will legalize more immigrant workers, a study showed yesterday that migrants contribute about 1.5 percent to Greece's economic output every year and help create 115,000 new jobs.
The report, prepared by the Hellenic Migration Policy Institute (IMEPO), said that the entry of migrants into the labor market also helps increase tax revenues and contributions to social security funds.
The survey examines the economic impact of various scenarios involving migrants in Greece, including what would happen if all of them stopped buying consumer goods or if the flow of newcomers to Greece dropped sharply.
If migrants were no longer consumers, economic growth would drop 1.5 percent annually and Greeks would lose some 100,000 jobs, the study showed.

New legislation hits vulnerable migrant labour from Central Asia’s poorest republic.
By Anora Sarkorova in Dushanbe (RCA No. 479, 26-Jan-07)
The recent Russian ban on migrants from Central Asia working as market traders will have a major impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of Tajiks.
The new legislation, which came into force on January 15, will not only leave many people from the former Soviet states without work, but slash the remittances they are able to send home.
Russia’s economic development minister German Gref has said the new rules are designed to improve the way markets operate, but many observers suspect the decision reflects a groundswell of xenophobic attitudes towards people from Central Asia and the Caucasus. Following violence between Russians and Caucasians in the town of Kondopoga last year, President Vladimir Putin accused “ethnic” gangs of dominating markets, to the detriment of the “native Russian population”.
Under the new regulations, foreign nationals must account for no more than 40 per cent of the total number of market traders and street vendors before April, and after that they will be banned from working in the informal retail sector altogether. They are specifically prohibited from selling alcohol and pharmaceuticals.
According to Russia’s Federal Migration Service, one quarter of all foreign nationals in the country are employed at markets. Almost all these traders, together with seasonal workers in other low-paid sector such as construction, are from the former Soviet Union, China and Vietnam.
Depending how seasonal migrants are counted, there may be around a million Tajikistan nationals away working in Russia, many of them in the grey economy. Tajik officials put the figure lower, at some 450,000, but either way the figure is high for a population of seven million people.
A recent World Bank study estimated that the remittances sent back by these workers contribute more than 10 per cent of Tajikistan’s gross domestic product. Economists warn that the impoverished Central Asian republic can ill afford to lose this regular influx of cash, and social conditions would be hit further if tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of Tajiks reappeared on the domestic labour market.

The report also concluded that the costs are "outweighed by the economic benefit and money that this segment of the population brings into the county."
The 2000 census estimated that 14,000 of the county's 281,000 residents at the time were illegal immigrants.
Prince William, where about 20 percent of residents are foreign-born, is among several local governments in the region struggling with the issue of illegal immigration.
Last week, the county proposed allowing its jail to take on the federal task of screening undocumented immigrants for deportation.

Colorado's new law banning state spending on illegal immigrants has cost more than $2 million to enforce - and has saved the state nothing.
Less than a year after politically charged debates on illegal immigration, officials are reporting high costs, no savings and unexpected problems with the new laws.
Once touted by statehouse Republicans and Democrats as the toughest anti-immigration package in the nation, the Colorado crackdown is falling apart.
"We're finding very few of the departments where these bills have a major effect," said state Sen. Abel Tapia, D-Pueblo, chairman of the legislature's Joint Budget Committee.
The centerpiece of the get-tough effort was House Bill 1023...
From Bulgaria: http://www.sofiaecho.com/article/migration-helps-bulgarias-integration-into-world-economy/id_19949/catid_23
The report said that migration within and from the transition economies of Europe and Central Asia had been large and would likely continue to increase as declining birthrates across much of the region would lead to an increased demand for a young labour force, the report said.
It had been well publicised that migration to Western Europe had increased significantly over the past 15 years, with Western Europe receiving 42 per cent of migrants from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as growing numbers of migrants from the former Soviet Union. What was less known is that on a global level, Germany and France were the only Western European nations in the top-10 migrant-receiving countries. Russia was number two, and Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Poland were also in the top 10.
Remittances were one consequence of migration that benefitted both the migrants’ families and their home countries, the World Bank report said. For many of the poorest countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, they were the largest source of outside income and had served as a cushion against the economic and political turbulence of the past 15 years. Remittances represented more than 20 per cent of GDP in Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina and more than 10 per cent in Albania, Armenia, and Tajikistan.
Surveys done for the report found that in Bulgaria, 80 per cent of migrants did not send remittances. Bulgaria was at the bottom end of the 28-country rankings of remittances as a portion of GDP, the growth rate of remittances in 1995-1998 and 2001-2004, remittances as a share of exports in 2003, and remittances as share of total household expenditure in 2004, according to the World Bank report.
Look at the world view of human migration. The only thing of true consequence happening is, as populations distribute more evenly, the wealth is distributed. In other words, if Africans migrated to countries where jobs exixted, they would prosper and contribute to society - rather than starve to death.
It is time to realize that misinformation - of those much more powerful and influential - is driving the anti-immigration movement. They fear the unknown. They fear not being the majority. They want everyone to look like them.
Again, illegal immigration is a GLOBAL issue - Not a U.S. issue only.
Please consider these facts.

"CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice over): Saying they're empowered by the Democrats' control of Congress, a coalition of illegal alien advocacy groups is, in effect, demanding an end to immigration law enforcement in the United States.
GLORIA SAUCEDO, HERMANDAD MEXICANA: We come here to request the president to stop the deportation in the race because it's not good for the country
WIAN: The National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities is in Washington, D.C., lobbying lawmakers to support its so-called new course on immigration reform. Among its demands, unlimited amnesty for illegal aliens.
ANGELA SANBRANO, CENTRAL AMERICAN RESOURCE CENTER: Every migrant already residing in the United States who's contributing to the well- being in progress of the nation of good moral character and to whom our current laws deny the possibility to be legal permanent residents should be granted such opportunity.
WIAN: The group also wants illegal aliens now in the United States to receive priority in any future guest worker program and a guarantee of legal permanent residency for foreign workers.
OSCAR CHACON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, NALACC: We're not talking any privilege for foreigners. We're talking about the same rights. We work hard. We pay taxes. So why shouldn't we have the same rights, you know, as everybody else?
WIAN: The activists did not say how the United States should determine which illegal aliens are of good moral character. Nor did they say if activities, such as paying a smuggler to illegally cross the border, violating the law by overstaying a visa, or committing document fraud, would be exempt from a moral litmus test. They did demand debt forgiveness for all impoverished Latin American nations and the expansion of multilingual, multicultural education in the United States."

I'm full of shit, Greece is full of shit, Russia is full of shit, Bulgaria is full of shit.
The people in Darfur must stay there so they can die - God forbid one of their wealthy neighbors hides behind the law of ..." But, they're ILLEGAL!"
You do realize how cowardly that is... And just how true it is as well.
I'm not full of BS: I'm full of the desire to see people succeed in life - us, them and the everyone else.
I wanna know why this isn't a Haitian influx, Brenda. You got the answer for that one?
Explain to me why we're fighting Mexicans instead of Haitians?
Can you imagine what would would have happened had you screamed "ILLEGAL" to Haitian people in this nation, as you flout your "opinions"?
Tell me this isn't about RACE...LMAO. You know what, people know better, Brenda.
WE KNOW BETTER.
We are fighting ALL illegals. However, the majority of illegals come from Mexico (57%). Correct me if I am wrong......But I have not once seen Haitians in our streets marching/protesting/DEMANDING rights/benefits that they are not entitled to while waving the flag of Haiti. I have not seen/heard of Haitians demanding that we speak their language, accommodate their customs/culture, and pay for their education, tutors, translators, bilingual forms, etc.
Can you post that info for me please??
not making slaves out of them!
"Dont touch someone who looks different from you, you might get leprosy!"
Oh, please.....Don't pull out the racism/xenophobic cards, as they do not work with me and most of the MAJORITY. Perhaps you should find some time to attend a La Raza ("the race"), MECHA, or Maldef meeting sometime---you will truly get some first hand experience in regard to racism. Also, maybe do a little looksey for information regarding Aztlan/reconquista.
Have you done any research lately on the gangs of illegals currently targeting blacks (including young girls such as the 14 year old who was killed a few months ago) to shoot and kill??.
Maybe you have never heard the La Raza creed?? "For the race everything--outside of the race nothing". However, we are supposed to work and pay for everything for "the race".
It's like comparing apples to oranges again jackie.
If this government passes an amnesty bill I can only hope they all move to youir town. The only place they will be welcome.
The cost to jail illegals should be much higher .
As all illegals including jackies husband belong in jail.
Lock up then deport.
BUILD THE FENCE NOW!!!!!
When have we NOT had immigration issues?
THOSE WHO SCREAM RACIST THE LOUDEST PRACTICE IT THE MOST
BUILD THE FENCE NOW!!!!
So, in your opinion it's okay to be afforded wealth or moral fortitude, but not okay to be responsible for the mistakes, WE, AS A NATION, have made?
hmmmm...... total lack of responsibility for anyone but yourself..... So, if a child fell, you wouldn't pick him/her up, brush them off, give them a smile? Would you ask him/her if he/she is legally in the U.S. first?
You wrote: "The only thing of true consequence happening is, as populations distribute more evenly, the wealth is distributed."
How is MX's wealth being distributed by importing their poor, neglected, uneducated, etc., here? I have never read any articles or comments by you addressing the problem south of the border. Are you saying we should assume their responsibilties also? That is called enabling, and if this continues and a blanket amnesty bill were to pass, nothing will change. We'll be here 20 years from now blogging (bitching) about the 60 million invaders and how we got screwed back in 2007.
We aren't being screwed. For God's sake, the point of debate is over 5% of the U.S. population with a labor distribution in 3 major, necessary areas.
And PUHLEASE: The U.S. has done the same thing in the past - think about it.
We didn't even pay the slaves, we killed the indians - we throw out minorities when they are no longer necessary or we see too many of them.
Immigration will never stop. NEVER. It is who we are. Think about "supply and demand" in economics.
Many want to stall the demand - you can't, Eamon. There will always be a need. They'll go under, over and through us - companies will find a way to achieve their goal: Making as much money as they can.
My question continues to be: Is this about a law or is this about something darker?
Honestly: Somehow, in every debate, culture and language somehow get thrown out there like it's somehow as illegal as walking across without permission.
You seem to have the "supply and demand" issue backwards. The demand side is America's desire for inexspensive goods. Supply jumps the border approximately 3000 times a day.
"My question continues to be: Is this about a law or is this about something darker?"
Probably both, but is it asking to much when they come to respect our laws. They seemed to be pretty demanding of us about respecting their rights.
Also, I'd really like to hear your opinions omn the questions I asked you above.
Yes, and as you can tell- many of us are really getting sick of it. Who are you to say that my "wealth" should be re-distriuted" to someone else because you feel sorry for them? Why not take your message to their countries and build THEM up instead of thinking that we ought to pay for them. I work hard. I don't want to pay for everyone else. And somehow you expect me to feel bad about that? Sorry, I'm not going to.
"It is time to realize that misinformation - of those much more powerful and influential - is driving the anti-immigration movement. They fear the unknown. They fear not being the majority. They want everyone to look like them."
This is a bunch of bullshit and meant as nothing more than guilt mongering. I don't fear anyone looking any differently than I do. And it's not MIS information I have-the fact is that I have the information and I don't like what it says. Unlike you, I'm not trying to twist the information I have into something else or reframe it to be innocuous- IT IS WHAT IT IS. You try to guilt people into believing they are being less than compassionate if they don't embrace all of this, no matter what the consequences are. Like I said before- it's manipulative!
Stop doing it. Stop trying to make us believe that these people simply "took a walk without permission". THEY ENTERED OUR COUNTRY ILLEGALLY-plain and simple. Stop telling us they are merely "here without permission". NO! They are HERE AGAINST THE LAW- don't try painting it any other way. If you want to live in a fantasy world about the facts- go right ahead. But don't try guilting others into your reality.
Lisa: Bullshit; part of your "wealth" comes directly from the fact that YOU do not have to pay what you should for food, distribution, construction, etc. In those areas, it is BECAUSE of illegal immigration that you are able to find LUNCH for under $5, pay some of the cheapest prices in the world for FOOD and don't have to pay more taxes to build HIGHWAYS.
LOL.... This amazes me. THEY operate in the areas that could hit our pocketbooks the hardest - but we don't mind, we will gladly pay more to COMPANIES for our goods than to PEOPLE.
Anytime this is pointed out - you can't stand it. I bet ya'll go to church on Sunday and praise God, too. Wow.
Tell you what, Lisa - Let's follow your reasoning. What are the consequences - research based - on deporting ALL farm workers, ALL day laborers, ALL restaurant and hotel and other hospitality workers, ALL construction labor, ALL food processing labor, etc.
Really - and don't forget - they don't send it ALL back home - they spend an average of $125 per week HERE. Add that into lost revenue.
Give it your best shot.
You and I both know if we can find a terrorist cell in the U.S., we can damn sure find 12 million illegals.
The point is - it's publicity. It's a way to calm us all down without changing anything.
The way it is - people need to be either thrown out or given permission. They aren't stray, unwanted animals - they are human beings. And they suffer because we don't have all the facts - and when we do, we don't demand accountability.
We are a Christian nation, Timothy. Tell me how much religion you encounter in this debate? It sickens me that we scoff at anything that makes them real because they committed a misdemeanor by crossing over and some person/company gave them a job.
That's what has happened - and look at the response....
This is us? Honestly. This is "one nation under God, FOR LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL"
oh, sorry - perhaps we should consider re-writing that as well...
LOL.... This amazes me. THEY operate in the areas that could hit our pocketbooks the hardest - but we don't mind, we will gladly pay more to COMPANIES for our goods than to PEOPLE."
Uh, nope again. I AM paying for it either way. If they aren't here and I have to pay more for food, so be it. As it is, WITH them here, I am already paying that amount and much more by paying for their education, their health care, their rent and THEIR food. I pay the extra amount in housing their criminals. I pay for their tuition to college! So I'm already paying the extra amount. It's just another argument that doesn't wash.
And please tell me how having these people in our country illegally means that I don't have to pay more in taxes for highways? Are these people building our highways now for free?
"Anytime this is pointed out - you can't stand it. I bet ya'll go to church on Sunday and praise God, too. Wow."
Have we met before or had this discussion in the past, that you know what I can or can't "stand" in the discourse of it? I didn't think so. Please don't make assumptions for or about me. As you can see, I don't have a problem dispelling that whole myth either. As for my Sunday activities, you don't have any information about that either and it's not pertinent to this discussion. Save your strawmen for someone they might work on.
"Tell you what, Lisa - Let's follow your reasoning. What are the consequences - research based - on deporting ALL farm workers, ALL day laborers, ALL restaurant and hotel and other hospitality workers, ALL construction labor, ALL food processing labor, etc."
Tell you what Jackie- why don't we discuss a comprehensive guest worker program that doesn't include a path to citizenship or entire families moving in to the country. These folks can come in and work in positions that we determine we cannot fill with United States citizens and then they go home to their own country. And no, you can't just "assume" that because they hold a particular job now, that job cannot be filled by a citizen. There is too much proof to the contrary in certain areas.
"Really - and don't forget - they don't send it ALL back home - they spend an average of $125 per week HERE. Add that into lost revenue."
And don't forget that there is NO WAY that anyone could estimate how much they spend here because we don't know who they are. Please tell me how this figure was arrived at. Did someone ask them when they were spending money if they were illegal or legal? More smoke and mirrors. There is no way to determine what they are spending in this country.
What is funny to me is that you harp on and attach racism to this whole argument and say that we are identifying people and then assuming things about them based on their skin color. You then drag out a monetary figure that could only be arrived at if the gatherers of the information for your side of the argument did so by making assumptions that you consider racist. I guess the racism is okay if it works for you eh?
And you want to bring religion into the debate? Why? Because you are running out of other guilting tools? What does religion have to do with any of it?
Texas immigration debate intensified in Bush's absence
The Associated Press
Published: January 28, 2007
"The president's home state is gripped in the same anti-immigrant fervor spilling out across the country, making Texas an unfamiliar host to some of the harshest proposals in the nation.
The Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch has become a national experiment in how far cities can go to punish and drive away illegal immigrants, with its proposal to criminalize the renting of apartments to illegal immigrants.
Talk radio shows in Texas have been flooded with callers complaining about Mexican flags in their neighborhoods and tax dollars being spent to educate immigrants who do not speak English.
A bill filed in the Texas Legislature would cut off public assistance to children of illegal immigrants, including public health care and education. The measure parallels California's bitterly won Proposition 187.
Other anti-immigrant bills would tax money that is wired to Latin America, end a policy that grants in-state college tuition rates to illegal immigrants and authorize the state attorney general to sue the federal government for money Texas has spent dealing with illegal immigration."

"PHOENIX -- More than any other police boss in Arizona, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has pushed the bounds of what local officers can do to crack down on illegal immigration -- and he's frustrated that he can't do more.
But Arpaio is bothered that his deputies can't make immigration arrests when coming across suspected illegal immigrants in traffic stops and other police calls, so he is among a rising number of local police bosses seeking the power to charge people with immigration violations.
While state and local law enforcement have generally stayed out of immigration enforcement in the past, 42 agencies across the country are now asking the federal government to train officers to make immigration arrests and speed up deportations. Many more departments have expressed interest in the training.
A deal expected to be approved in the coming weeks would grant that power to about 160 patrol and jail officers in Arpaio's department, marking the largest one-time addition in the effort. His county, which includes Phoenix, is a hub for transporting illegal immigrants across the country.
Immigration analysts say interest in such agreements is growing because the public is getting more frustrated with America's broken immigration system.
Federal officials, who attribute the increasing interest in the training to recruiting efforts, said local police recognize that the broadened powers will help make communities safer.
The move would put state and local officers one step closer to the frontline in the battle against illegal immigration.
Corrections officers can determine through questioning and database checks whether the presence of inmates is lawful and can charge violators with being in the country illegally.
Of the 42 agencies applying for the federal authority, 21 are seeking the powers for jail officers, 14 for making immigration arrests and seven want both.
Supporters said local officers should join the fight because Immigration and Customs Enforcement has only 5,800 agents to enforce immigration law in the nation's interior.

DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM WILL FORCE SPANISH ON SCHOOL CHILDREN
UISD seeks new answers: Daring program would force English, Spanish
LAREDO MORNING TIMES
01/24/2007
By TRICIA CORTEZ
"Laredo - Due to a large number of parental concerns, United Independent School District (UISD) officials expect to table an item at tonight's board meeting that would radically alter how children are taught in school.Starting this fall, all kinder students would be required to take science and health in English, and math and social studies in Spanish.
The program, known as Dual Language, would be implemented at all 26 UISD elementary schools. It would begin with kindergarten and progress to the next grade level, each year thereafter until 12th grade.
By the time students reach second grade, UISD hopes to have 50 percent of all classroom instruction in English and 50 percent in Spanish, said Pamela R. Juarez, UISD associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
All students would likely take the math and social studies portions of the TAKS in Spanish, UISD officials explained this week.
This should raise a red flag for parents because I'm not sure parents are fully aware of all the details involving this drastic change," said one parent who asked to not be identified since she is a local science educator.
UISD gets roughly $18.5 million each year from the state and federal governments to educate its limited English proficient, or LEP, students, according to district data.
Some researchers and bilingual education experts, such as Wayne P. Thomas and Virginia P. Collier, say Dual Language is the model that school districts with large numbers of Spanish dominant students should adopt.
Juarez said she believes parents will embrace Dual Language once they hear about its benefits, citing higher student test scores on the TAKS and college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT. "

You definitely want to read the comments......I do not think that they are going to have much support for school districts catering to the children of the illegals----all paid for by US tax payers of course!!!! Their arrogance and sense of entitlement just never seems to end.

Petition is through the Senior Citizen League
Petition to Congress Protesting Illegal Alien Amnesty 'Guest Worker' Legislation and U.S. Social Security Totalization With Mexico
"We, The Undersigned, urge that you do everything possible to STOP both President Bush's proposed illegal alien Amnesty "guest worker" legislation and the U.S. Social Security Totalization Agreement with Mexico.
Both of these would allow illegal immigrants, mostly from Mexico, to gain legal status and access to Social Security benefits. Worse, under both, these persons would be able to claim benefits for their relatives, children and other dependents, and our government has NO IDEA of the cost!
Given the problems already facing Social Security, ANY new outlays will only speed up the day when benefits will be cut and taxed. You MUST stop these two outrageous attacks on Social Security."

Lisa:
[Uh, nope again.
If you feel so strongly Lisa, perhaps you should do the math and stop believing all the rhetoric. Let's see - you say you pay for all this....How do you pay, exactly? Don't tell me you believe all Brenda's shit....Have you even investigated this?
Obviously not.
As far as road construction goes: illegal immigrants dominate our road construction projects and that money is paid with our tax money. So, taxes have not risen because they are still making $7-9 an hour without benefits. If you have your way, we'll soon be paying $12-17 an hour with benefits so you can see citizens on the job....Congratulations.
As far as your statements about not knowing who is here and creating a comprehensive immigration package....I completely agree. We should know who is here so we can accurately determine where they work and how many are here. Couldn't have said it better myself. Then - if they don't have a good work history or if they have a criminal record - Get them out - NOW. Deport them immediately and if they come back - imprison them for a good long time, period.
As to religion: It is a reminder that we aren't discussing legislation - we are judging the future of people. No matter what. We are the jurors, here. And we are American Citizens. We need a country we can be proud of - and its foundations are still important...they count....we were born of those beliefs and especially during these times - we need to remember that.
We have 9,000 police officers and 3,000 staff at the L.A.P.D.What an indifference. The people of homeland insecurity should be ashamed of that figure. We need to get rid of most of the "FAT" at the top and get more of the hands -on people in able to do any good. It's a good thing that we have minutemen on the look-out. Oh, Brenda, by the way L.A. is only about 460 sq. miles. I think its time that the people of the U.S. know which direction this lame government is trying to lead us down. I don't think they can possibly cover-up this bam-boozling of the Americans any longer. Keep up the good work Brenda, Thanks
I didn't realize that you are in LA. There is an excellent blog site that you will want to join---as the large majority of members are from California!!! They are very active in regard to the fight---as they are usually protesting somewhere every weekend.

You---and the BS that you post---are such a joke. Again, anything for your illegal man.
"Brenda....sigh....ya know, I could spam the conversation with articles, too - I just choose to write them. You know, actually form a thought and put it on paper."
That is because you cannot find any articles, stats, facts to support the BS that you post and expect people to believe.
"As far as road construction goes: illegal immigrants dominate our road construction projects and that money is paid with our tax money. So, taxes have not risen because they are still making $7-9 an hour without benefits. See my post above---"25 Reasons to deport illegal aliens" to see exactly what you are paying for in regard to the illegals being here doing construction, farm work, etc. The MAJORITY of LEGAL US citizens have figured out a long time ago that they would rather pay higher wages to a LEGAL, US citizen and a few cents more for meat, vegetables, etc. than to continue letting our country be overrun and ruined by the illegal invaders.
Also, don't forget about the $27 Billion+ that they send back annually to Mexico---that is money that could have been spent in our own economy!!!
Obviously not."
Yes, I have investigated it. I do my homework and I didn't just arrive to this debate. I am paying for it in my taxes and increased medical costs, to name a couple.
"As far as road construction goes: illegal immigrants dominate our road construction projects and that money is paid with our tax money. So, taxes have not risen because they are still making $7-9 an hour without benefits. If you have your way, we'll soon be paying $12-17 an hour with benefits so you can see citizens on the job....Congratulations."
Now this one is funny. $7-9 per hour for road construction? Without benefits? Laughable. If anyone IS getting away with this, it's in violation of the Davis-Bacon Act.
You ARE familiar with The Davis-Bacon Act aren't you? You know, it's the one that was developed back in 1931 to prevent the very thing you say is happening. Can you tell me where these road construction workers are making $7 to $9 per hour or is it just more words thrown out onto the page?
You see, back then, in order to get a construction project, many contractors would bid it low to get the job and then "import" laborers at low wages in order to stay within their bid price.
Under The Davis-Bacon Act anyone who bids on public works construction projects must pay prevailing wages. And this includes a separate amount for fringe benefits. A road construction project worker wouldn't be paid $7 to $9 per hour. The Davis-Bacon Act has only been suspended 4 times since it's inception and then only in specific areas.
You really ought to do your research before you throw this stuff out there Jackie.
"As far as your statements about not knowing who is here and creating a comprehensive immigration package....I completely agree. We should know who is here so we can accurately determine where they work and how many are here. Couldn't have said it better myself. Then - if they don't have a good work history or if they have a criminal record - Get them out - NOW. Deport them immediately and if they come back - imprison them for a good long time, period."
You agree that we don't know who they are or where they are, yet you post actual amounts they supposedly spend as though it were fact. "If" they have a criminal record? They have a record of criminal activity by being here! If they are working using a social security number, they've committed a FELONY. Is it just the laws in this country that you happen to like that are important?
"As to religion: It is a reminder that we aren't discussing legislation - we are judging the future of people. No matter what. We are the jurors, here. And we are American Citizens. We need a country we can be proud of - and its foundations are still important...they count....we were born of those beliefs and especially during these times - we need to remember that. "
And what does that have to do with religion?
Lisa: If you have to ask, nevermind.
You have the right to draw your own conclusions. Out of curiosity, I'm interested in your sources. You don't, by chance, use Tanton's data to make assumptions, do you?
After all - if you were given the opportunity to go to Switzerland for 1 million dollars - would you do it? If you had the opportunity to be wealthier beyond your wildest dreams in Germany or Paris - would you go? Would you go, even if you had to sneak in and stay five years to receive 1 million dollars?
How much time does it take to make 1 million pesos, Lisa? Do you know?
The exchange rate is 100 pesos = $1 U.S.
Not that you care - but someone might.
Lisa: If you have to ask, nevermind."
There you go again, throwing something out and not being able to back it up. When questioned about something you throw out there you dismiss it rather than defend it. Because, in reality, religion has NOTHING to do with it. It's just another deceptive tactic to play on the emotions of people who may have religious convictions and try to guilt them some more. Where DOES this work for you?
You also didn't address the $7-$9 wage you stated that road construction workers are making which would be in violation of The Davis-Bacon Act. Where are these roads being constructed by workers making these wages? Or is this another thing you pulled out of the sky? I'd really like to know and I'm sure The Department of Labor would like to know as well. Sounds like more of your dishonest discourse.
Now you try to get into monetary exchange rates as a reason for us to feel like we should subsidize this invasion of our country? Give me a break!
What freaking immigrant has ever heard of the Davis-Bacon Act? LOL
A legit company gets the contract and sub-contracts to a legal immigrant with illegals doing the work. That's the way it is. These guys die every day - some as young as 15 years old - building our schools and hospitals.
Want proof? Google: illegal immigrants die on the job schools
Want More? Google under Google News: illegal immigrant death rates
And....answer the question...Would you go? Would you do it for 1 million dollars?
Come on....you wanted to play - YOU give me stats. I want to see some facts.
You've got mine, now show me yours.
If someone was building highways with people being paid $7 to $9 per hour there would be screaming to high heaven about it and the "legit" company who won the bid would lose their ability to bid in the future. You really don't know much about these kinds of contracts do you? What you are describing is EXACTLY what The Davis-Bacon Act was brought about to avoid.
Thing is, everyone else who bid on that contract would have someone out there checking on it. If the companies who didn't win the bid found illegals out there making $7 to $9 per hour, there is no way they'd stand for it. It's a prevailing wage issue that the unions would be all over like flies on honey.
I just did a good search "Are U.S. highways being built by illegals?" and didn't come up with any stories about people being paid $7 -$9 per hour. I did find a story about a problem with illegals working on highway crews in NC WITH STOLEN IDENTIFICATION. One man was using the social security number of someone who died in 1989. A FELONY. The company was checking ids and they looked legit. Turns up they weren't.
So, it appears that you are the only one with this secret information about highway workers making $7 -$9 per hour.
And no, I wouldn't do something for $1 million dollars that would make in a criminal in the process. I wouldn't go into another country and expect their citizenry to take care of me and my family. I wouldn't disrespect the sovereignty of another country and then demand rights I don't have and expect that country to provide forms in my native language to make it easier for me to be there.
There is nothing "high" about my horse, Jackie. I am a citizen of this country which is being INVADED. I don't make shit up or try to manipulate the emotions of others to try to force them to see my view and believe what I do. The concerns that I, and others have about the future of our country are real and reasonable. I may feel for the citizens of another country but that doesn't make me responsible for their very existence and I don't think others should be forcing that responsibility on me or anyone else.
I happen to be one of the few that really does want mass deportation. I believe the difficulties in doing so do not come close to outweighing the difficulties in letting them stay. Anchor babies? They may be citizens and when they are of age, they can return to claim their citizenship. Until then, they should go home with their parents to their native countries. And yes, change the amendment that allows for them to become citizens. I have my own family to take care of and through my taxes I'm helping others who are citizens who have hit hard times or need help through no fault of their own. I give to local charities to help families closer to home. I do my part. I owe these people nothing.
AND anyone who knows ANYTHING about how illegal immigration functions will attest to the fact that there are MANY, MANY illegal immigrants building our homes, houses and laying our water lines in exactly the way I described.
They also build our homes, they build our schools, they build our churches.
They harvest our crops and flip our hamburgers, they make that nice bed you sleep in when you go to a hotel; there are 900,000 illegal maids in this country at best estimate.
You really think there's a chance in hell of mass deportation....LOL.
Wow - and you call ME names!!!!
You are switching topics here-another diversionary tactic. Now you'd like us to believe that you were talking about construction in general and that I'm just confusing the whole thing. Not gonna work. HERE is what you said:
"As far as road construction goes: illegal immigrants dominate our road construction projects and that money is paid with our tax money. So, taxes have not risen because they are still making $7-9 an hour without benefits. If you have your way, we'll soon be paying $12-17 an hour with benefits so you can see citizens on the job....Congratulations."
You were specifically talking about ROAD CONSTRUCTION. THAT was what you were describing so please don't try to make it appear that you were talking about home construction or church construction. I'm fully aware that illegals are hired for those jobs at much less than legals would be paid. Those projects are not covered by The Davis-Bacon Act and its prevailing wages.
BE HONEST IN THIS DISCUSSION.
I didn't say that I thought there was a chance of mass deportation- I said that was my belief about what should happen. Do not twist my words to suit your spin okay? Because I'll be right here with the truth.
Forget the numbers. I had three illegals working for me because I felt sorry for them and I fired them after an hour. I didn't want them around even if they worked for $0.50 an hour because every time I turned my back they stoped working.
You used Darfur as an example. The indiginous people of Darfur are being murdered, starved and forced out of their homes by illegal immigrant muslims backed with Saudi money.
I feel bad for you as you are not finding any support for your view but your view is totally screwed up!
Try thinking of your country as the house you live in and a family of eight breaks in and tells you they have the right to live in your house too. I think you would call the cops!
How quickly we forget the Soc. Security Bust, the want ads everywhere and the shortage of qualified and low-skilled workers...
YOU cannot have everything you want and then 15 years later decide you were wrong - THAT is what has happened here.
You bitch and whine but you refuse to see that they are here by the millions and WORKING. When/if they are forced out - there are not enough of us to fill these positions.
What is it about that reality that you refuse to understand. How do you expect people to fill the positions that obviously exist - when our govt. refuses to give them permission to be here.....ANSWER: ILLEGALY
This is preposterous. No one minds reaping the benefits as long as this minority stayed "in their place." That shouldn't be a surprise. We've always had that view. Immigrants were always "dirty," and "beneath us."
And that's okay, Jimmy U.?
It's okay to have that perspective knowing we could have never kept up with the small business boom had they NOT illegally crossed the border?
And Jimmy: They didn't break in - check Thomas - Border Patrol reported the increase and Congress told them to stand down.
Social Sec. reported the mismatch problem: Congress ordered them to create a suspense fund.
Why act so ignorant about the entire story. I know we have MS-13 - I say deport them. I know we have pedophiles: I say deport them ALL, no matter the race, to some island FOREVER.
There are many sides to this and not all of it is what we'd like to hear. However - you can't make an intelligent decision until you do.
You are correct on one point though, about the Border Patrol being told to stand down. However I'd bet that you have a problem with the Minutemen being on the border?
And your continuing spin thet the illegals are here working because there aren't enough American citizens to fill those jobs is complete and utter bullshit. They are here because of greed on the behalf of the people who hire them, and that's all about cheap labor.
Excellent point. I'm wondering when YOU are going to start? You don't hear anything except your own views and your own side. And when you don't have enough ammo stacked up on your side, you make something up!
You do the math - I say it is so - Because I already have. I want references - citations of where you find your data, based on available, legitimate statistics from somewhere other than Tanton. Find the census data - find it all...
You want to convince me - here's your chance.
Put your money where your mouth is....Have enough sense to not vomit rhetoric.
Then, we'll talk.
It would appear that the onus is on you to convince us, since you are the one to keep running away from the last article you started where the questions got too tough and start a new one. If you don't like the statistics you deem them "illegitmate."
You don't answer the questions yourself. Where are the highways that were built with $7-$9 illegal wage earners. You still haven't answered that except to ask the group to view things with your racial sunglasses on and make something up in their own minds about what they might see. What does religion have to do with any of this? You don't have an answer for that one except to say that if politics is part of this, then of course religion is too. All more BS. So, YOU prove your point. Show us the real reason the ER's in California closed. Show us where all this welfare money that ends up in the hands of illegals is really going. Show us where our prisons aren't swelling due to the negative element they bring with them. Show us that we aren't paying for them to have the local emergency room as their free clinic.
"Put your money where your mouth is....Have enough sense to not vomit rhetoric".
I have an idea- You go first.
Then, we'll talk.
Instead of thinking you are holding court here and that we desperately want you to talk to us, you might consider that it doesn't matter. The thing is, you continue to talk and you make shit up as you go along. That will get my attention. Bring some honest discussion skills to the table and don't throw out whatever comes to your mind as though it were fact. Don't play guilt cards that mean nothing practical to the discussion other than to attempt to manipulate good people.
And try having some respect for the fact that this is OUR COUNTRY. We pay for these people and it is US who are covered under our Constitution. If you feel so strongly that this group of people have the right to enter another country illegally and then make huge demands on that country and its people and that they are entitled to all of it- take up a collection for a big ship and take your cause to another country and try to jam that group of people down their throats and into their economy and see how far you get. Would any of your argumentation work? Hell no! Why not? Hmmmm, I wonder. You couldn't round them all up and drop them off in another country with all of this so why do you feel that because it's The United States of America and it's close for most of them border-wise, it ought to be such a no brainer for us?
Tell you what- since other countries seem so much further along with the acceptance of all of this- put all of them on that big ship and take them to Bulgaria or Greece or Russia.
Jackie...How about all of the American citizens who have lost their decent paying jobs because their factories closed and movd to Mexico or China and are now working 2 or 3 part time minimum wage jobs to feed their families while Tyson, Crider and Swift hire illegal immigrants ?
How about a 10 % unemployment rate in Graves County, Ky while the local chicken plant there has 75 % of their workforce illegals, reported to me by the Kentucky State Police by the way.
Not enough American citizens to fill the jobs that the ilegals are doing ? Far from the truth.
What Ever - Neither you or Lisa spew anything but a strong desire to bitch about the inequality of your lives. Try being illegal - try busting your asses and dying every day for the American Dream.
You two don't have the balls to do what they've done - you aren't half of what they are - you wouldn't know what to do without electricity or nothing besides tortillas and beans for food.
You would both DIE under the conditions many of these people live in - and THEY are YOUR neighbors.
I for one don't see where you're capable of doing anything more than screaming real loud the injustice of an illegal immigrant making a living, buying a home and owning a nice big truck - all in half the time you are capable of doing it in. LOL...you're jealous - they make us look bad - we look LAZY next to them.
THAT is your problem.
And this is what you want for the U.S.A. Quite an agenda Jackie, Sorry but you lose. Take a look around you, what you're looking at through those rose colored spectacles of yours is going in the dumper. Better start looking for some different
people to laureate you. Your Amigos are going bye-bye.
