Yesterday I drove over the Bear Mountain Bridge and headed west through the fall foliage to take in the John Hall/Sue Kelly debate that was held in Warwick at the town hall. Though I was told by Sue Kelly's staff (in three separate offices) that there were no tickets available for the event, I decided to head over in the hopes of filling the seat of someone who failed to show up for this Monday night event that would only discuss Agricultural Issues, rather than some of the more pressing topics such as Social Security, Health Coverage, and the War in Iraq. It was a long shot, but one worth taking.
I arrived at the Warwick Town Hall early in the afternoon, and before putting out my protest signs, the American Flag, and some John Hall campaign signs I'd picked up for this event, I decided to go inside and see if any tickets could be had for this sold out event.
Sue Kelly had done her best to shape and control the audience by reserving 100 of the 200 seats for farmers, with those tickets being distributed by the Republican controlled members of the city government in Warwick. The remaining tickets were distributed to the two candidates. I'd spoken to several other Democrats who'd also been told there were no tickets available for this event, but I wanted to verify that reality. For some reason, I had a suspicion that seats were available for Red Blooded Republicans.
So, with work boots and blue jeans, wearing a Dale Earnhart leather jacket, and topped off with a Coca Cola 600 NASCAR baseball cap on, I went into City Hall to make my inquiry. First I spoke to a woman in the front office who said I needed to see Barbara in the Town Supervisor's office. I peeked through the door and asked if Barbara was available, and a woman said, "that would be me".
I introduced myself as a Sue Kelly Republican, and asked if there was any way I could get a ticket to the debate. Her immediate response was a friendly and cordial of course, let me get your information. Two minutes later I walked out with ticket number 69 in the green farmers section of the audience.
Fine it rather disturbing that people who were willing to drive out to attend this debate were told by Sue Kelly's office that no tickets were available, but if you walked into City Hall in Warwick the day of the event and identified yourself as a Red Blooded Republican Sue Kelly supporter there were plenty of tickets to be had.

She's refused to hold/participate in a debate of all issues, and this one debate on Ag issues is the first one she has been a part of in six terms of office.
I echo Diana's statement's.
