Senator Kerry AGAINST TAX BREAKS! Newsflash!

On C-Span, John Kerry is now speaking. He has come out to say he's against the tax breaks the Republicans are now wanting to happen instead of the Porkulous bill the House has been trying to foist upon us. What would you do if you got money back from the government? Kerry says you would pay down your debt. Right! We would pay down our debt if we have any. If we don't we will probably buy some needed things for our families, homes, cars, more insurance perhaps. He's AGAINST that from happening because he wants to grow the government and insure his seat in the Senate by way of the lobbyists. Thank you very much Senator Kerry, but no thanks, I'm not for what YOU want. I'm for free enterprise, free capitalism, more dollars in taxpayers pockets, and by the way, isn't that what the great Obama promised? Where is the reduction of taxes for the mainstream taxpayer? The money is going to those who don't pay taxes. I'm sorry, but that is just wrong in my opinion. I don't think this is the CHANGE that most of Americans voted for. Thank God for the Republicans who have a chance to hold the line for US against this terrible and destructive bill to our children's way of life. How can anyone stand up for increasing our debt by over a TRILLION dollars right out of the gate in this new administration?

Now the debate has switched to giving people relief from foreclosure as brought to the floor by Republican Lindsey Graham. Senator Dodd is arguing against it. They're saying the original TARP fund already has the money in place to help people who may lose their homes. Have they helped anyone so far with this money? I doubt it. It's a spending bill, pure and simple. I would rather have the money that is designated to be spent in this bill going to sexually transmitted diseases and cigarette cessation going to help those people who are losing their homes. The Dems are again fighting this amendment by Senator Graham. Why? Power, bigger government.

You're welcome Stephanie. I still have the debate on television now. Voting on the Porkulous Bill will probably take place this afternoon after all debate is done on it. I pray they do the right thing for us and not send us on the road to more debt for our kids to pay off in years and years to come.

Great, now Russ Feingold is supporting an amendment to put more energy efficiency projects into the bailout bill. Sheesh. What else will they try to put in there? This is not a stimulous bill, it's a spending bill, cut and dried. It's just another program to grow the government's hold on us.

Now a Republican is advocating a refund of $5,143 for a single taxpayer, and $10,286 for a married couple filing jointly for this tax year. It's a nine page amendment to the almost 1,000 page Porkulous bill as sent to the Senate from the House. Would you think this would be a stimulous package you could support? I sure could! The Dems are fighting this amendment.

Now, Sen. John Thune, Republican who is bringing the tax refund amendment to the floor for debate is saying if you make less than $250,000 you would get this refund. He's fighting for us, the mainstream people!!

That's why he is not President.

A certain level of tax cuts is needed to motivate those who still have jobs to spend. Otherwise they will continue to sit tight on their money and that's a bad deal. The $15,000 tax credit amended to the stimulus by the republicans is a good deal. This will clean up the mortgage excess inventory. As housing goes, so goes the economy.

In addition to that, we need build bridges, roads, and schools. That was way overdue anyways. Even if the economy was fine. Anything else after tax cuts, infrastructure spending including making the fed government green, is not needed. Take that pork out.

Time to be patriotic fellow democrats. Don't feed pork to the people who voted for you in order to buy more votes. I know, republicans did it for 8 years but now is not the time.

Is anyone other than myself watching the debate on this bill in the Senate today? Do you have any thoughts you can add? I agree with Alan D. on most of his comment. The Republicans really had a majority for six of the last eight years. The Dems were chosen for the last two years of Bush's presidency to run the Congress and it's still debatable as to how they helped the economy in those two years.

A (D) Senator from Rhode Island just got finished going on a tirade against Senator Coburn (R) Oklahoma for speaking out against the pork in the bill that would have brought tree planting to Providence, improvements to the zoo and an aquarium to the city. You know what I like about the Senator's nine page amendment? It has no special interests at heart. It brings the money back to the taxpayers hands to be spent or saved as that taxpayer chooses. Even if the money is saved, it puts more capital into the hands of the institutions where it is held which will stimulate the economy. Will any of these people just use their heads and vote for common sense for a change????
