Ok...I'm sure there is a formidable debate concerning this, so once again I would love to hear civilized examples of what you think...POLITICS ASIDE..... I know thats hard, but I have faith in you...Lets go for it.!!!..This is only being sent to Friends, Colleages and Family and a few groups, so it should be a rather intellectual conversation..... Let's Get It On.!!!!

Thanks for the comment..
Joining you in the non-political aspect, I totally agree...And there are so many ways to resolve situations that have arisen lately..The problem is that, while tough talk is abundant in this administration, the action isn't...We as citizens have to remember one thing....The only protection we have against all of the horror in this world that is attempting to destroy our way of life is us!!!! Futhermore we have to start looking at this as a kill, or be killed aituation and stop being politically correct in the way we attempt to deal with savages, I know this is cliche but fuck it, "When in Rome".......They're not playing fair, matter of fact this whole situation is "Not Fair" so realizing that neither is life, It's time our gov't stepped up to the plate and started kickin some serious ass...As always thank you for your insightful input..!!
Glad to hear from you again....absolutely, I agree, "Git r done"
Always a pleasure to have you included in on anything that I post, thanks for your input....
Good topic, Action, not just Words, is what I think.. .
I'm featuring this in THE PLACE TO VENT AND JUST TALK ABOUT THINGS! or talkboutit.gather.com, where I'm hoping that there will be more input, kinda hard to ignore what's at the top of the page!!!!!!!
Marilyn
Liz..
I cannot agree with you more when it comes to re-instituting the draft, I made that coment numerous times in other comments...
As much as I hate to admit it Kissinger was the last true diplomat we had...
And as for China no we can't look at them as an "enemy" so to speak, but we do have to be cautious and pay close attention to what they are doing...
And last...NO DOUBT....It is the Islamic fascists that we have to be the most concerned about...They should be without a doubt our #1 priority...
As always thank you for being a part of my post
Love ya,
Todd
Rumsfeld and Cheney have been cronies since before the original Bush administration, they have "slicked" their way into every possible orifice of today's administration and if anybody truly thinks that G.W. is running that White House, they need to take a closer look....
True, and I tend to wonder if "any" President has actually run the White House. With all their Advisors and such, are they just basically figureheads, unlike the terrorist factions who have each one leader and the rest are followers. Fear and fanaticism are powerful motivators.
Unfortunately, this probably will be WWIII, but with us having to re-enact the draft, it makes one wonder just how many will leave the country "this time", such as with Vietnam. This and I've heard it said before, that the next war will be fought, not by the draft, but it will be a Nuclear war, and look at N. Korea, that nut's testing things.
With all the oil over in those countrys, pretty much all we need is a huge match - Boom! Of course, we do want the oil, so who knows what is to come. One can only guess and at this point, there are no solutions that are quick or look good.
Our sons friend and his wife (reserves), have been back and forth like ping-pong balls. The husband has been to Iraq about a half dozen times, once to Afghanistan, and his wife I "think" Iraq 5 times, and they know there's more to come.
Thanks for a great article, Todd and I hope we can keep this debate going, as most have their own views and this is a good place to share them on and have a civilized debate.
Marilyn
Really if you look at it, and your not going to believe this but, we really dont need the oil, do you realize that just between us and of all countries, Canada, we have more oil and oil reserves than all the middle east countries combined, if you don't believe me research it...
The next war when it comes, will more than likely be a nuclear war, and I know this sounds kinda nuts but, it's really gonna be the only way to rid the world of the fanatics that want to bring harm to us....In WWII we went the distance and tried every conceivable conventional way to end the hostilities, and then it came to "The Bomb"...And as unfortunate as it is I truly feel that the outcome of this conflict is going to be the same.....Adira's comment about a "Big Sandbox" might be the only resolution, let's hope not , but there is that possibility, and that is something we have to be prepared for....Throughout our countries history we have fought every conceivable evil and won, but never have we been confronted with something considered throughout the world as evil, dressed up as good and just. Used as a scapegoat, that is as perfect as (Religion).... This is indeed going to be a difficult war to win and a difficult war to justify.....
Taliah....Me too.....Nice to hear from you again....
Todd are you sure we need to reinstate the draft yet. Recruiter friends of mine have told us that since 9/11 they have had people re-enlisting and joining for the first time. They say they have been very busy. I have friends who have re-enlisted and family and friends who have joined for the first time. I do think there will come the day that they do need to reinstate the draft.
As to your query about Iraq or Iran, it really didn't matter (except that Iran would have fought back a lot harder) action against either would have united Islamic opinion against America.
Well to answer your question with facts...The military is at this point stretched to the point where we can't handle all of the responsibilities in a 100% fashion (which is whats needed to win) that the Gov't has placed upon us..We are rotating units in and out of Iraq and Afganistan at an alarming rate, not giving them the time to even handle whatever arises on the home front, i.e. family. They are being put to the supreme test and are holding up well, but how long can that last??? I realize that the recruiting dept of the Military is touting favorable numbers but in reality, thats all part of the administrations spin to make you believe that it's "Gonna be otay Buckwheat", "Otay Panky" (Lil Rascals... for those of you that aren't old enough)....Our Special Ops community are being run into the ground and considering their jobs, they more than anyone need to be rested and revived so that they can continue with a fresh outlook and the physical capabilities to carry on, our regular army units are being ragged out to the max also...A draft at this point would also set us up in time for any eventuality, the new troops would be trained and ready and we woudn't have to jump through our asses at the last minute if this whole situation starts to escalate....
Ian....
Can't really disagree with you on either point, but Iran really wouldn't be that much more of a problem, seeing that all of their tecnology and equipment was supplied by us, not to mention alot of their military training, It's pretty easy to destroy what you have created, especially when the technology belongs to you..... As far as the Islamic opinion, thats gonna be there regardless, the radicals in that movement have, and are going to continue to see to that, thats why I say, why worry about opinion at this point lets just kick their ass and get it over with
Lori, you also have to remember the National Guard and the Reserves are being quickly depleated not only because of the war, but also because of domestic problems,i.e. Katrina and the border situation....And don't anybody DARE take this opportunity to jump on the border disscussion....This thread is NOT about that !!!!!!
War is war, war is not fair. Why would they play fair? But a better question is why would we? We need to reinstitute the draft now and really go all out in beefing up the military industrial complex before it is too late. And we are getting there. Our enemy is the anarchic lunitic fundamentalist Islamic cell structure that exists everywhere including this country.
It takes a long time to train in all these areas and be proficient.
I served in Afghanistan. Tarin Kowt. 12 mo and 3 days. Who's counting? I also served in Iraq for 6 mo towards the beginning the whole thing.
I had some fun, we blew shit up..... we got to stop shaving once and a while, a good time was had by all......except those guys that lost limbs and lives. We had a male model in our platoon, he caught some shap to the face during an IED. Ironic, eh? He lived, by the way.
By the way...... my thoughts on this topic are as follows. Either way, we will eventually be in a war with Iran, unless Ahmadialphabetzded is removed by his people at the next election and the next Iran prez has a decent head on his shoulders.
Listen to Bush's speeches recently. Compare with those before we entered Iraq. One more chance to stop enriching your uranium for weapons..... vs..... one more chance to show us your WMD's.......
things that make you say hmmmm.......... I see another war, lets just bridge Afghanistan and Iraq. Shit. Lets just nuke the whole damn thing.
Welcome aboard the Nuke Train.......Glad to have your opinion on the post, but you know someone is gonna have something to say about that nuke em all attitude...Ahh shit who cares...I pretty much agree and it's my post....LOL.....
or "Nuke them both. That'll learn em! " and "Welcome aboard the Nuke Train"
You guys may be able to imagine that is intelligent but civilized? No empire in the history of the planet has done anything as atrocious as you folk so casually discuss. Being a soldier doesn't make you an authority on world diplomacy and having a brain doesn't mean what comes out of it is healthy. Please tell me every single inhumane post on here is a joke and that I am just an uptight liberal. That would allow me to rest easy people.
Oh, wait...
Interesting.... the savages are those who would prop up a government, support dictators who assist them, and then blow them away when everything does not suit them....
The answer to who should it have been? is NOBODY.
It is our own country's policies abroad, the crooked and wicked dirty deals which cause our demise, not another country.
It was illegal for us to bomb Iraq, a sovereign nation of no threat to us. Help us all if this is how you guys really feel.
You've been duped.
For me, this is a call to loving and not fighting.
I've been really tryin', baby
Tryin' to hold back this feelin' for so long
And if you feel like I feel, baby
Then come on, oh, come on
Whoo, let's get it on
Ah, babe, let's get it on
Let's love, baby
Let's get it on, sugar
Let's get it on
Whoo-ooh-ooh
We're all sensitive people
With so much to give
Understand me, sugar
Since we got to be
Let's live
Rest of the lyrics to Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On
fight properly. Timid soldiers don't win wars. But, technically,
fighting wars isn't a good idea, because they damage so much
infrastructure, and kill so many people. But, if a war has been
chosen, it's better to win it than to lose it.
As for gung-ho civilians, well, Europeans in 1914 waved flags
and cheered as their proud boys went off to war. But the same
civilians cried after the Battle of the Somme. Some are still crying
now. Remember Gettysburg? Remember the fall of Saigon?
Victory is great, but defeat is traumatic upon several generations.
If war can be avoided it's better. It's a politician's job to fulfill
the nation's needs in the most efficient manner, without waisting
men and materials.
So, if that is what you think is great, I can see why this country is going downhill.
It's too bad, bc we used to be the good guys, who stood for law and order, and individual rights and liberties. Now we have none, and our budget is trashed for the benefit of Halliburten, Betchel, UNICAL, EXXON, and the rest of the oil sector and weapons sector corporations.
The whole situation is sad, beyond the pale of law, and a sad chapter in the lives of all Americans.
On top of it all, we find out this week that pedophiles are running amok in DC.
I can't believe the levels of depravity in DC.
It sickens me.
BTW, Depleted uranium is on the list of prohibited WMD. We dropped tonnage on children. Enjoy your football game, bc war is not it.
War is supposed to be a last resort.
Only criminals agree that murdering someone for profit is A-OK.
If we nuke Iran, that will not win us any friends.
