Luscious Dark / White Chocolate Covered Strawberries*
18 lg. strawberries with stems (if possible)
Dark Chocolate Coating
1/2 c. semisweet chocolate chips (Nestle)
1 t. vegetable oil or crisco
Wash strawberries: gently pat dry. Line a tray with waxed paper. In small sauce pan over low heat, melt chocolate chips and oil until melted, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Set saucepan in a pan of hot water to maintain dipping consistency dip strawberries into chocolate mixture until 2/3 of each berry is coated. Allow excess to drip off. Place stem side down on paper lined tray. Refrigerate until serving time.
White Chocolate Coating
1/2 c. white chocolate chips or 4 (1 oz.) squares white baking chocolate
1 t. vegetable oil or crisco
Repeat procedure for dark chocolate coating, substituting white chocolate mixture.
* Note: To make pastel colored coating, add a drop or two of any food coloring to melted white chocolate mixture.
I have also started using the chocolate bark. Sold at holiday season to make my dipping mixture. If you use this product, follow package directions exactly. Either works well. And don't fret about using oil or crisco, you need it to make mixture adhere to berries.
Also, these can be placed in decorative boxes lined with tissue paper, or even small individual baking cups, and given as a house warming gift, baby shower gift, holiday gift, or for any special occasion. Believe me, people love these berries!
