Group Review

This morning I am engaged in the long overdue task of reviewing content in my groups and removing articles that are off topic.  I have been avoiding this dreaded chore because I am reluctant to hurt anyone's feelings, but it really has to be done.  I'm trying to be as flexible as possible but in many cases there is no possible connection between the article and the focus for the group.  And thus with heavy heart I am having to click "remove" a bit more often than I would like. 

I truly appreciate all the great articles that have been published to my groups but I would like to request your help in putting the right posts in the right place.  Here are a list of my groups with descriptions for you to keep in mind.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for commiserating William. I'm about halfway through and even with extreme flexibility there's been a lot to remove.

I can't imagine anyone being upset with you - often I strain to see even a thin, marginal, tangential relation between an article topic like "How I Built My V-8 Juice Can Sculpture" , and a group named "Breeding Exotic Gnats for Third World Frog Food Supplements". In fact, as you know, I often refrain from joining groups simply because I know that I will not have any articles to contribute to that group. So - soldier on, and never look back! :o)

A piece of advice that I learned the hard way- if someone asks why you removed something, tell them, but don't volunteer that info to begin with.

I thought I was being nice when I emailed another member to tell them why I rejected something from a group, and it just turned into a really stupid, frustrating argument.

Linda, If it doesn't fit, it must go, otherwise there is no sense in having a forum. I am afraid I may be guilty of submitting articles that are formatted to the topic. If I have, I am sorry. Sometimes it is hard to remember the focus of each individual group and without any hints or guidlines on the publish page, sometimes I forget. If I am one of those people, cut away!

Well, Linda, if one of my articles accidentally gets posted to one of your groups where it shouldn't be, don't worry, I won't get mad. I sometimes post to wrong groups in error since I have apparently signed up for so many of them I sometimes forget what they are. LOL I appreciate groups where the owner takes out contents that don't belong. Saves me time sorting through all the stuff. :-)

Thanks for all the support. I've been struggling with this issue. But this morning I decided I just had to bite the bullet.

I understand when people accidentally publish to the wrong group (I've done that too). Or there may also be a rationale that I just don't see unless someone calls it to my attention. (I actually emailed a group owner about one of my articles to explain why I thought it was appropriate for that group)

Oh well. I do hope it gets easier

Linda, same here! On occasion I think we all post things to places they don't belong on accident. :)
I won't get upset.
There was only one time I got really ticked about my article being removed... the subject was TOTALLY on topic but because the group owner didn't like the way I worded the title of the article they removed it, they said if I changed it that they would accept it if I resubmit so I did, it went through only later to find out they deleted it again... DUH! That was annoying LOL

I won't be upset if you remove my articles. I always look closely before I post an article into a group. However, my judgment can be different from yours. And it is your group, so you have the right to accept or reject an article. I just want you to know that if I ever posted anything in the wrong place, it's not that I am not respectful of you, but simply because I thought it would have fitted.

I don't think that anyone means any disrespect. But some people just get in a hurry at the last part of the publishing process and quickly click some groups to publish to. And some people just get a little confused.

Just for the record, I wound up removing one of my own articles from one of my groups(probabluy got myself confused). I even got an email telling me that I had done so. Ain't that a fine how do you do?

I'm running on the same track as you, Linda. I did some housecleaning today, too. Taking the high calorie dessert recipes out of Weight Watchers Friends was very satisfying!

Good for you Jiya. We definitely don't want to sabotage anyone's diet or give anyone an excuse (:g)

I guess if I'm gonna run a groups, I'm going to have to start being a little more vigilant.

Linda, I'm sorry that my article was not appropriate for the group. Sometimes I read things on groups that seem to not match at all, and I guess I just got sloppy about where I posted my own. Sorry to make extra work for you and I promise to be more careful in the future.

BTW Do you think you should also remove the second part to the article? I'm not sure it is clear as a single article.

Don't worry about what people think as long as you know your are doing your job. Chop away. :-D
