I Survived The Gather Update!

Hiya, guys -- how's the new update working for you? Anything break, or does it seem to have improved?

So far, I've discovered that my ability to post to groups has actually slowed, and when I tried to post this the first time, I was logged out of Gather. Grrr.

It does seem like you can prevent people from rating your content if you want, and you can remove comments, which is good if you tend to attract trolls. ::nods::

Hi Austin! I finally am getting articles posted to my e-mail from Gather after 3-4 weeks or more without!!! It's amazing! Glad to be back with my fellow Gatherites again!

Hehe, I'm not worried about ratings - although good is always good. ::grins::

I've only been bumped out once so far -- but I'll check back in after I go around and check my groups. I'm thinking there's going to be a lot of 'post to the wrong groups' accidents until we get used to the change.

Having messed with it a while, I wouldn't say that the group selection method is worse... just different.

I've had trouble all morning. It's very slow. I've had to sign in a dozen times. A few times it erases my comments & I have to check out, and go back in to do it again.
I really hope they fix that soon.

I don't really like the thing for selecting groups. Especially if you have a lot of groups like some people that seems like an annoying way to do it unless you're sending to all of them. At least now the points and Email notices seem to be working faster. So we got that going for us.

Posting to groups IS slower and more of a pain than before IMO. I hear images aren't posting now though I had no issues posting right after the update.

Twice now Gather has been unavailable and I've gotten 404 Apache error pages.

I DO like the delete process now and how one can add a second comment to the same article without a refresh.

I was able to post but have been getting weird Gather errors all day. If I leave and come back it usually fixes it. I had trouble posting a comment and rating an article.

Good thing: I can now post more than once without refreshing
Bad Thing: It's taking too long to download Images, I am still waiting for gather to convert image to view on here. I think it's been a half hour all ready.

I'm slightly annoyed by the spontaneous 'session crashes out and the server goes unavailable' issues. I suspect that one of their servers is still under maintenance.

I'm glad it's finally fixed. Thanks to Gather Support for getting to the root of the problem. It was very frustrating not being able to post new chapters of my book for over a month, or to post comments for others.
