Yard Sale Weekend is Over

We had a yard sale this weekend. One thing I can say is that they sure are a lot of work. By last night, we were absolutely exhausted. We had two pretty good sale days and met some really nice people from the area which was a good thing since I am running for a local office in November.

One thing I did notice is that by keeping the prices reasonable, people seemed to buy more with less hesitation. Our biggest purpose was to get rid of some things while making a few dollars, but not necessarily making a fortune.

Anyone else had yard sales this summer? How did they go? Anything you would do the same or differently if you were to have another one?

I usually do, but we moved from a house to an apartment at the begining of summer, and with the move, it was hard to plan one first, and since then- well, it's hard to have one in an apartment.

I've always been an avid yard "sailor", and hate sales where the prices are high, or close to the price someone bought it for in the first place. Keeping the prices low is one way to get on my good side, that's for certain!

I've never had one at my house, I assisted my sister in law once, not much sold but I wouldn't mind assisting again. I don't think I'd do one by myself.

I had a yard sale the first weekend of August and made almost $1,000. I'm in the process of holding a final yard sale before I move this coming Thursday. In three days, I've made $700 and tomorrow is the last day...with prices slashed so I don't have to move it or throw it away.

Glad it went well for you. I used to do yard sales but they were exhausting, as you said! I'd rather donate the stuff and get the tax write-off for their estimated value at the end of the year.

Rob- you might want to stick a sign up towards the end of the day, letting people know whatever is left after X time is free, and let people know. Then, anything left after the end won't have to be hauled away, or what not.

You'd be amazed at the scavengers that crawl out of the woodwork for a "free" sale.

The prices on many items I come across at tag sales are almost insulting. When I have a tag sale I price them to get rid of them. I think of what I would be willing to pay for the item if I were on the buying end.
