My goals for being here on gather are many, but I decided to list them all in a nice article, so that I could have it out there. I’d like to hold myself accountable for doing the things I set out to do, as I know I could be making a good amount of points on a daily basis here, if I could just do a little more each time. I know my goals will change and I’ll be able to do more once I move and get a high-speed connection.
I’ll figure out just how much I’ll do once I get fast internet again, but until then, here are my current DAILY goals on gather:
- Visit at least 10 different articles by my friends and comment on each.
- Comment on discussions I’ve started that have been commented on.
- Add a new friend, or even two, on a daily basis.
- Write an article and post it.
- Connect with all kinds of people and exchange ideas – see if I can use gather to promote myself and my career, and use it to improve myself and my life.
- Visit a new community and read, rate, and comment on some articles.
- Join a new community!
- Post to my communities on a weekly basis.
Long-term goals are as follows:
- Earn 3,000 points total by the beginning of next year.
- Refer one person minimum per month – teach them how to gather if they are inactive! Show them the benefits of this site and if they are willing to learn more about how to be a successful gatherer, educate them!
- Earn 1,000 points per month!
- Challenge myself to write something meaningful each month that other people can relate to, and that will garner me more friends with whom I have similar interests!
I am up to having 300 points again - after cashing in 625 for a Border's gift card (which I am very excited about getting and spending on some nice books for myself). That took about a week. So realistically, I'm looking at making anywhere from 500 - 1200 points a month, unless I am able to spend more time on here and pick up the pace of commenting and perusing the site!
I am praying for a better internet connection!
So what are some of your gather goals? What goals have you reached so far? What was your highest point rating? What did you cash in your points for?

I'm not doing the whole cash-earning thing on Gather, but I average 2 to 3 $10 gift cards a month, if I try.
After my classes, I usually need a break before studying, so I look through all the articles my friends posted and choose the ones that interest me most. I'll also sometimes explore a group or two each day, and I don't actively seek to add people, but I often will add someone who comments me, if I like their stuff, and I get several random adds a week.
There are a lot of great ways to earn points on Gather. I hope you have TONS of luck achieving your goals!
Brian, I like that you gather to have fun and don't focus on points. That is a very good, laid-back attitude to have! Eventually, I'd like to not be so ambitious! I have tons of goals in life that I haven't gotten around to yet. At least this will give me some structure when I'm online doing gather, etc.
Jennifer - I wish I had gather when I was in school. I wouldn't have wasted so much time chatting with people on yahoo and such when I needed a break from doing schoolwork. Thanks for the well-wishes!
Mom and Bridgette - I think it is cool that people on gather are here to be here, not to earn points or what not. It makes the experience more natural and less forced. I don't want to force myself on anybody else here on gather, but at the same time, I want to make it pay off. The friends I've made are worth more than a Border's gift card any day of the week!
Grandma - where is your comment? I swear I saw one up there! Get around to commenting lady!
Apryl - I am amazed at what you've accomplished on gather! That is pretty amazing. I hope I can turn my fast typing skills and intelligence into 2000 points a month, maybe even 3000. How much time would I have to spend behind this computer screen to accomplish that?
Brenda - That's awesome, that you're just going with the flow, and cashing in on whatever you get! You sound like a really easy-going person, and I think that is the concensus for most of the gather population. I might get some home depot cards someday, because their goods would be useful when I get my own place, not to mention, some of their products make very practical gifts as well! That is a bonus to being a member here, I guess! I like each day more and more, and I learn something new, or actually, several new things, each day by coming here and connecting with people.
All of my gather friends are a blessing!
Sharon, I just commented on your comment about the illegal immigration and how illegals are criminals. I thought it was funny....
You're another "go-with the flow" gatherers. I think that is what most people are around here...at least that is what I conclude given the answers above! WHEW!
Happy Labor Day to everyone who is a gather friend, or a real life friend, of mine! Take care of yourselves and one another, and be careful when driving. This is one of the worst weekends to be driving (random thought I know, but still relevant).
Peace!
how to improve my points even faster.
